  1. I was trying to get on here yesterday and both my wife's and my PC' s gave me warnings about this site being malicious. It was Google giving out this info. I just couldn't believe it was doing that and that is why I tried my wife's PC. Anyone else have this problem? The message was saying that my settings are why I got the warnings. Never changed the settings and have no problems getting on now.

  2. I know how to do it using the Tools menu, but you've got the menu bar hidden and I don't know for sure which, if any, of the icons still showing are for "Tools."

Once you set up your folder the way you like, choose "Folder Options" from the "Tools" menu or icon, choose the "View" tab, then the "Apply To Folders" button under the heading "You can apply the view (such as details or icons) that you are using for this folder to all folders of this type."

Thanks JDoors That worked great! Glad I didn't have to this manually lol!

    Thanks Again

One other way is Control Panel/Appearance/Folder Options.

  3. Written for Vista but applies ot others too

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-is-the-prefetch-folder

Each time you turn on your computer, Windows keeps track of the way your computer starts and which programs you commonly open. Windows saves this information as a number of small files in the prefetch folder. The next time you turn on your computer, Windows refers to these files to help speed the start process.

The prefetch folder is a subfolder of the Windows system folder. The prefetch folder is self-maintaining, and there's no need to delete it or empty its contents. If you empty the folder, Windows and your programs will take longer to open the next time you turn on your computer.

Basically if you clear it out, things slow down until it gets repopulated. If you leave it alone , eventually unused entries will get removed.

You can think of it as bunch of shortcut links sort of, it keeps track of where on the hard drive files you use a lot when you run programs you use a lot or which load during windows startup and it tells windows to prefetch a copy from the hard drive to RAM or at least swap file (depending on when it will be needed) so that it is pre loaded when it is needed.

So instead of waiting for when it is actually needed (and a bunch of other things are trying to load from hard drive tor RAM at the same time) windows grabs them ahead of time while the CPU is doing something else or a piece of hardware is being configured so that the hard drive and RAM are not being used.

Thanks Pete, if they remove themselves once never used I am fine with that.

  4. I know on older Windows it was safe to delete these files. Is it OK for Windows 7 to delete all the files in this folder of just the .pf files?

I have a ready Boot folder ,Data Base files and a Configuration Settings file other than the PF files. The configuration settings file is an ini file. Is it created when the first pf file goes into this folder? And continues to grow as more pf files goes in?

I'll just leave it alone then. I don't install and uninstall much of anything. Thanks!

  6. Looks like it is one of the Dell Programs that starts up. I used CodeStuff starter and removed the Dell Support Program and IE8 Runs ok now. Thing is Firefox and Chrome are both much faster so I will stick with them. Chrome I haven't messed with and don't really see any nice things about it. Just a plain Jane(sorry to all you Jane's)Browser.

  7. Did you try to use the IE8 32-bit version? I believe IE8 64-bit doesn't support Flash and ActiveX..

I have Windows 7 64-bit and need to use Internet Explorer 32-bit

Yes this is using the 32 bit version. I even tried the 64 bit version and the same thing happens. Both my wife's and mine lock up, It might have something to do with a Dell program installed, I'm just not sure. My daughter is over visiting and tried to use my Computer. Turn around and asked me what is wrong with your internet. I told her don't use IE. I might try disabling the Dell programs and give it a try. Have you ever seen the Dell Dock program? It is like a task bar at the top of the Desktop. Might be that. It is accessible all the time and can at times overlay IE or anything else you have loaded.( Always on top).

  8. You would think these 2 Microsoft items would work well together. I bought my wife a new PC last year with Windows 7 on it and then I bought myself one this year. After a short time of using IE8 my PC started to lock up all the time as did my wife's. The screens just freezes and after about 10 seconds would start working again.

I kept thinking my router was flaky and or the internet service. I had made 2 calls to the ISP in the last few days after a hard rain and power outage. They had to reset my modem to get it to work again. My on-line banking wouldn't accept my passwords two times as well and had to have them reset twice.

Today I switched to Mozilla and all is well. Not a single problem.

One other thing I might mention, I uninstalled IE8 once and then reinstalled it and it made no difference. The IE8 64 Bit version doesn't work on my wife's Farm-ville Face-book crap so she can't use that either.

Why would they come out with Windows 7 and it not work with IE8? Are they going backwards again? Ohh I feel better.

  9. Both N and G are faster then your INTERNET connection so won't make much difference there. If you share files or serve media between devices in your house you will see a difference with that. Of course all your wifi devices need to be N also.

Thanks Steve I thought it was just the distance thing. I have been trying to get my Internet provider to increase their speeds but they are way behind. There are only 2 PC's on this line and the wife uses Face book and does all those crazy Farmville, PetVille and FrontierTown. So she does slow it down sometimes.

  10. I have been using a Linksys Wireless G router for years now and am wondering if my connection speed would increase with the N router. I live in a remote area and have slow 3 Mb speed. I typed in Speed tests and checked the speed with about 10 different testers and found I am running real slow compaired to what I should be. On average I had 1300 to 1400 download speeds. and 210-214 Upload speeds. Only one test showed 2930 download speed.

So getting an N router going to help or just good for distance? This is just one of those things I never kept up with.

  11. Got it fixed today. First tried numerous things I found on the internet. Then I uninstalled IE8 and reinstalled it. Still not working. I then deleted all Cookies,Temperary Internet files and anything else I could from IE. That still didn't do it. SO I went to AVG toolbar and deleted History and Cookies from it. Then it quit having script errors.

Other things I did try was Spybot search and Destroy,Malwarebytes, Trend Micro's free scan and AVG full scan. It was in the tool bar for AVG that fixed this.

One other thing.. My wife had a program called Mcafee Virus scan Plus on her system. She couldn't remeber where she got it from. I did some searching and there is no such free program I can find and I also found some discusion about it being a Spyware program and messed up a lot of peoples PC's. I removed it as well. Norton even had some bad things to say about it.

  12. Wife just started having script errors and I tried to turn off Debugging and after applying the advanced options it turns script debugging back on some how. It is telling her the line 31 "length is null or not an object"

She just tried Firefox and doesn't have the problem. Any idea why it reapplies the settings back to debugging? I reinstalled Java so that wasn't it.

  13. Daughter is having a conflict with one of her Laptops. She is a conflict IP address error everytime she tries to load IE. I haven't been keeping up with these things and have forgotten more than I know nowadays. I was going to tell her how to check her IP address's on her systems and I can't remember how to do that. Also how would she change the IP address if it is conflicting? Thanks in advance. Lefty

  14. Thanks. I did find out that Easylink Advisor doesn't work as well as Easylink Connect. I did find Easylink Connect on my saved files and ran it and it allows me to find the info I needed. Neither of these programs installs into ad/remove programs in The Control Panel so it was hard to figure out until I ran Easylink Connect. I knew I could just reboot and start from scratch but was wondering if the info was accessible without doing that and this program does just that. Thanks again.

  15. I have a Wireess G Router 4 Ports. I downloaded the newest software for it and ran the setup. After a few days the system thinks it is a new Router and wants to run the setup again. I did print out the Encryption Code so I could setup my Wii and Laptop to it. It took me 3 tries to get the correct one as I had 3 of them printed out for different dates and the printouts are not dated. My question now is: Can I just type in something in command mode to find the Code or do I just have to run the setup each time I loose the print outs? I tried to use Linksys Easy Link Advisor but every thing is grayed out and I can only run setup again. I have it running now I just would like to know I don't have to run setup if I was to loose the printouts. If I remember correct, I need to know that admin is the password but I can't remember where I enter that to get the info I need. Thanks for reading this long mess.

  16. My wife's Laptop doesn't save home page in Mozilla. I have set it to show home page and made the home page before saving. Every time you load up Mozilla it comes back to Show last page/s and the home page is gone. I've Run MalwareBytes,Spybot and AVG and can't find anything other than cookies. This is with Windows Vista Home Basic. And Mozilla is updated to the newest version.
