  1. So using the manual update is the only work around I can do. I have done that but will now look for an alternative and quit using AD-Aware. Bottom line is ;Everyone is in it for the money. I'll scratch your back and you add my tool bar to your program. I am the point that I am going to get another PC for the INTERNET and just do a clean install every month. Use this PC as the main PC but never use it on-line. Transferring files as needed. That keeps all Spyware, Adware and Virus in check. Heck I wont even need the Spybot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware that way.

  2. Hey Lefty. Could you give a couple examples of what your talkin about?

Xbox 360 requires a Wireless adaptor. I read I could use a wireless B or G gaming adaptor. Linksys is one of the ones mentioned. I am assuming a linksys wireless G adaptor will work since it is compatible with G or B. This is a USB type. I just haven't seen any thing in stores called a gaming adaptor and all are just called Wireless G, B or N types.

  3. My daughter-in-law has an HP Pavilion xe783 running Wme. (Trying to talk her into getting XP.)

A few days ago she asked me to install a wireless connection so she could use her work laptop.

She is on Verizon DSL using a Westell 2200 and her wireless router is a Netgear WGR614 v7.

I installed a wireless ethernet card.

Everything installed OK and I set the security mode. She can now connect with her laptop anywhere in the house or yard.

The problem is when we turn off the computer at night it keeps running even though the screen goes black. It then reboots after 5 minutes and we have to do a hard shutdown.

It worked normally until I hooked up the wireless.

Is there a setting I need to set to correct this?

    Thanks.

Might need an Updated driver for the ethernet card. Or one designed for WME.

  4. Stupid question, I want certain file types to be associated with a program so I right click>Open with>Choose Program and choose what program I want and check

always choose the selected. Ok now when I click it it will goto that new program but the icon stays the same even after a reboot. How can I change this without

changing each icon individually? And without uninstalling the old program which was initially associated with the file type?

Sorry I made it sound convoluted :-P

What I do is Right click>Properties>Change and then pick the program I want to open it with. Then apply and it's done. Is it a program or just a Picture/Video you want to change?

  5. I found this today. I didn't know about it so I wanted to pass it on.

Open a .pdf with Adobe Reader. Go to view/read out loud/enable read out loud. Now click next to some text, it will put a line around the paragraph and read to you.

I passed it around the office and no one knew it would read.

    Have fun.

    Mike

Of course that only works with the paid version and not just the free reader.

  6. Have you tried clearing the CMOS battery? Or just pull it out and then put it back in. There is a jumper next to the battery and if you place the jumper on the opposite 2 pins for a few seconds and then put it back it clears the CMOS. MAke sure you put the memory in the first slot and try it after clearing the CMOS.

  7. OK, not working but activitiy from HDD. Do you still get the same errors or a blank screen? Does the PC beep at all and what type of beeps do you get? If only one beep when you turn it on and the HDD is flashing, there is a chance your Monitor or graphics card is at fault. Do you get any text on the screen when booting, or is it just a black screen? Double check the Graphics card is tight or reseated and that the monitor cable is plugged in tight. Use just one memory chip and try again.

  8. OK I think the bad memory, Centon, is going to be pitched or held onto to test further to see if it works more or less. I want to test things here to see if the kingston is also bad and if so y all of them went bad. I think things like this is unreal to have it all go bad like that.

Is the Pc working now? Or have you tried running it with just the Kingston?

  9. So... that 'error' is caused by too much stuff on the base of the Start menu?

And moving stuff off the base start menu fixes it?

    Please clarify.

    thanks

No error occurred. And yes consolidating items in each catagory fixed it. Example. I go to start and I made a catagory called games. In the games folder I had a ton of things and made new folders in there as in On-line Games, Learning games and fighting games. Then used drag and drop and put those type games in those folders. Same with internet Utilities. I made folders called: Spyware Adware and Anti Virus, Add-on's and Utilities. Drag and dropped items to those also.

OK now you went and did it. It was fixed yesterday and now it is doing it again. I guess it isn't fixed. Hmm, back to the drawing board.

  10. Try only one stick of ram the video card and only one HDD. Make sure it is set to Master. Then try formatting and installing Windows. Disconnect everything else. Make sure the inside of the case is clean. Use a can of AIR to clean it out. Never touch the contacts of the memory or any other PCI AGP card with your fingers.

You might also want to set the BIOS to the default settings.

  11. Have you tried to reboot your PC. Sometimes a small glitch will clear itself on a reboot.

Oh yeah! This has happened for months now. But hey guess what, I fixed it. All I did was consolidate some of the categories and it doesn't do it anymore. Been doing this for a long time and as soon as I decide to consolidate it clears it up.

  12. The Terrorist asked me to post this here. Very strange thing happening with My Start BOX.

This is what it looks like.

    post-623-1188843390_thumb.jpg

The Start Box over laps my listings for All Programs. When I scroll up the listings, and let it stay in one place for a couple of seconds the Start Box Acts like it needs to be on top and hides the left most listings and allows the right side of All Programs to appear.

  13. I have never seen that behavior and wouldn't know where to begin trying to straighten it out. Post this problem in PC support and maybe someone has dealt with this before.

Pretty strange huh? I am at a loss to what caused it too. Might be Weather Studio but haven't uninstalled it to see if that fixes this or not. Just a little annoying not much of a problem.

  14. Weather Studio Toolbar does load cookies that generate revenue for them.
What do I get with the WeatherStudio toolbar?

Our goal at WeatherStudio is to create products that add value to our users' browsing experience. Some of these generate revenue (make us money) by providing paid search links. Others are just useful and fun. Here is a complete list of the features that are included in the WeatherStudio toolbar:

So if I just delete them(quarantine) every other day or so they really aren't going to hurt anything right? They all have a low threat.

    You should be OK.

It has been on here since 05-19-07 so I think I am OK. Nothing else in the way of problems. System runs good.

Thanks TT for all your help.

Oh wait a sec. I would like to mention that when I go to All Programs and then try to scroll up or down the items listed once I find an entry with more than one item in it's category the left side of the menu over laps the left side of the listings. This one is really hard to explain but it's like when you first click on Start you see the box with all the entries. Well then I pick All Programs, Once in all programs I scroll up to another entry with more than one category in it the first box that I saw when I click on Start over laps the left side of the All Programs listings. If you can figure that out I guess I explained it to the best of my limited ability. It's like the Start BOX is set to stay on top. But only when an Entry has more than one Category.

  16. What is the weather program and cookie?

    Weather Studio is the program.

And these are the Cookies. Not all of them all the time but these are the ones in the last 4 days that have popped up.
