Is the sound Icon in the task bar on the right hand bottom corner? Go into the Control panel and check the settings in there. Make sure it isn't Muted and go into the advanced settings to check in there also.
-
On your old PC run Sfc /scannow and also make sure all devices are listed. Might have a device that is causing the trouble and you just need to remove it from Device manager to load in Normal mode. Also while you there(SAFE MODE) run your Anti Virus program.
-
When you log on as user 2 go to Device manager and see if the sound card is listed. If it is with a yellow or red ! next to it then you can just install the drivers for it. You can install them anyway just to see if it works. Just double click on the Sound card and then click on driver and then update driver. Choose from the INTERNET and let it find it for you. Might do that since it will look for the newest driver for you instead of the one the PC came with.

Very strange, I plugged in a USB stick to install some software today and the software ran and installed without any problems. To my surprise a few minutes later
the USB stick looked empty (nothing was inside, no files, folders) But when I go to its properties it still sees the used space and how much I have left (the old
amount). Maybe theres a chance my files are still there? What should I do?
Have you tried to reboot your PC? Can you try that device on another PC? I have a Jump drive and when I first got it, I backed up all the files on it to my hard drive. Good thing I did since it has lost those files 2 times and I just copied them back and it worked again. You might be able to download the files needed by yours off the INTERNET.
-
I am now running Online Armor. It looks good and seems to be much better. I also got SpyGuard and MalwareBytes as well. Thanks again for your help.
-
Thanks for the help. I already have most of those programs running on my system, but will include the ones I don't. Isn't Windows XP Firewall good enough? Most of the Devices have been updated except for the Ethernet card. never thought of that one.
-
When I clean out the case I pay special attention to the PS,Memory CPU/Cooler and then the Hard Drives, Floppys and CD Roms. I have an older HP with the original PS and not had any problems as long as I keep it clean inside.
I also blow out all fans and even to the extent of making them spin. Not hard though.

Here it is. The Share results was on the Right hand side so it took me a while to find it.

Everything runs pretty good, but once in a while IE7 will through errors and have to close. It did it yesterday when I was downloading the Kaspersky program. And sometimes the system runs slow. Not always but once in a while. I go try PCPITSTOP. Although I have been there before and it wouldn't run on my machine for some reason.

Sorry this took so long but here it is. Nothing showed up.

I have been getting a lot of ADware and Spyware lately and just wonder if the HiJackThis log has anything in it I can get rid of to eliminate some of the problem files. here is the log. I had installed a few games lately and that is when I started getting the troubles. Uninstallled most of them but still have a WildTangent game I paid for installed. Penguins! Fun game but like most programs these days they come with AD and spy ware.

I realized I am no BETA tester and dumped that junk. It has a long ways to go to make a person think it is better. It was jumping around and giving me so many Access Denied errors it is not worth running. Hey and my IEspell works again.
-
Yes it has a couple of bugs.
You have a hard time coping something. It's not sure what your doing.
And some sites don't come in just right using it. Take a look at the "BestTechie" Logo at the top of the pages. The Logo offsets down from the rest of the logo field and onto the controls for the "calandar" and "members" Jeff may have to reset the Logo to fit right. Found a couple of different sites that do the same.
But IE8 is it still an earlier Beta release. So keep that in mind.
Today it isn't displaying all the Pic's in web sites. Like the BestTechie logo is missing and also unlike IE7 when I scroll down on a page it does it right away and with IE8 it wont let you scroll down until the page is completely loaded. It keeps jumping back to the top of the page. The start page for IE8 doesn't have all the Pic's in it either.
-
Ok I am trying it out and found 1 glitch so far. When I try and use IEspell with it it throughs an error and closes the IE tab I am in. It does reconnect to the site but every thing I typed in is lost. Hope I didn't misspell anything cause I wont check it.
-
The only question I have is: Is it faster loading than IE7?
-
Hi, I'm not great with computers but I do know that mine has a virus or something. I have XP. Whatever it is, resets my internet options under privacy to low.. accepting all cookies, etc. It doesn't change the security section. I've done virus scans and found virus Lop, Generic9.AQNO and a Trojan BHO.DFZ. the spyware and antivirus fixed them but I know there is something else I have do do, I just can't figure it out. I found a file WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gebcc.dll that doesn't seem to belong.. created yesterday. I did download Ccleaner because this has been happening for a few days. I started getting pop ups with fake security threats and it seems someone accidently clicked on one and now I have virus heat3.9 on there.. I deleted the program, but I think there are files associated with it or something else. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
You might try running HIJACKTHIS and posting the log for someone to look over.
-
Not always but it is starting to anoy me. I boot the system up and if I don't log on as a user iand then later I do IE doesn't load. It also somethings doesn't load when I log on right away. I downloaded a few things lately and since have removed them. Still the problem. I checked all programs for Virus first and found none.
I would almost say it sounds like a service entry like the firewall or antivirus is not loading the next portion if you interrupt the boot sequence.
IE it loads the service and entries in the machine and all users hives , but not the database in your user hive so it fails .
Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall completely and then see if the problem persists?
Thanks Pete, but I finally got it fixed. I had to uninstall IE7 and reinstall from a saved IE7 installer. I had problems getting Spoofstick and IEspell to work again but Finlay got them working and the Auto Complete was giving me problems as well. But all is well again. Now I just need to post a Hijackthis log someday. Adaware found 106 items the other day and keeps finding more. SPybot finds nothing nor does Spyware Blaster. Ran Trend Micro the other day and it found 123 items of Adware but when I went to delete them IE7 Closed on me. That was when I was having the other problems.

Is there a way to have SFC tell you what files were replaced and or fixed or do you just have to assume it did it's job?

Two Free FPS:
America's Army
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/enemyterritory/
Some Other Stuff:
Second Life
Frets On Fire (like guitar hero)
http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/
Battle for Wesnoth
All of those are free, just double-check the system requirements.
I followed your link and it wants me to sign up and pay a monthly amount. How is that free? This is for the Wolfenstein program.
OK I went back and found the file after signing in and waiting for 30 some other users to download in front of me. I have nothing but time as long as it is free.

My friend is upgrading his current 6 tb raid 5 media server(its full) to 12tbs(formatted space) using raid 6. He just ordered an $1100 raid card. He also has 24 750 gb drives to put in his Raid 6 array. In theory he can have two drives die, and still not lose any data. He also has one drive as a hot spare.
When I met him, he was just 16 years old(4 years ago). His sisters played with my son. I new he was into computers, so I showed up to his house with knoppix cd. He thought linux was the coolest thing ever. We have been friends ever since. Back then he was running a slow 1.0ghz celeron system with Windows 2000 pro. Look how things change,.
Just curious, what would one do with all that? I guess if he is a gamer he could buy every game made and install them. But wouldn't that leave him about half his drives with nothing on them?

Marty, if you look at the card you can get the FCC number off it and then enter that number on this site I am going to post. It will then tell you exactly what you have. Scrool down to the left there is an link to the FCC ID Search.
