  1. To turn off Norton Protected Files With Systemworks 2003. Open up the main window for Norton. Then go to "Options" And Click on "Norton Utilities". Click on the "Norton Protected" Tab and uncheck "Enable Protection" Then go to the "Recycle Bin" tab, and set it for "Standard Recycle bin". Click OK. Restart your PC and see if you can now get into your recycle bin.
  2. Boy..... Been awhile since I used Norton..... Open up the Main Norton Window, And in Options. (on top toolbar), turn off Norton Protection for the Recycle bin. You might have to look since I can't remember where everything is at for Norton. Hopefully someone with Norton will see this and be able to tell you right where to go.
  3. First, Unhiding Folders....Go back to C:>Windows, on the top taskbar, click on "Tools" and choose "Folder Options". Then Click on the "View" tap. and look for "Hidden files and folders". Then put a check at "Show hidden files and folders" click apply and there they are. Second. Yes. ZA works fine without the XP Firewall. It has allot better control over your programs. The XP firewall only blocks incomming traffic. ZA works both ways and you have control over what's allowed. (The free version is fine if you don't want to upgrade to the Pro version). Third. Boot into "Safe Mode" Then do a "Di

  7. There is a difference between Hacking and Cracking, Tho some don't think so. To some, Hacking is just tweeking your PC to run better. And cracking is causing misfortune to others, or stealing programs. If you want to learn how to tweek your PC to run better, that's one thing, And all you have to do is ask. But if you want to know how to get codes for programs or learn how to crack programs to get them for free. This will not be allowed on BestTechies. We are all here to help others, not to cause problems. Hope this explains where BT stands on the subject. So if you want to learn how to help

  11. Have you tried Housecall . By trendmicro? It's a good online Scanner.
  12. I looked to, Not sure. Will have to try Yahoo and Lycos searches to see if they come up with anymore info. For now you could try disabling it with a system startup program, or use the one in Spybot S&D. And then monitor your PCs preformance. If something acts up you can turn it back on. ALSO do a Hijackthis log and post it in the right area to be looked at by one of the HTJ Experts. All I could find is this reference: Added as a result of the SMALL.AJ VIRUS! NWEReboot. dummy.exe ... Do a virus scan and try looking for any referance to it on your PC. Then turn it off if you can and if
  13. Are you "Mac The Knife"??? LOL
  14. Try going into "Device Manager" find and remove the Win Driver and reboot. Restarting should pick the best driver. If it picks the Win Driver, try removing the old driver agian, then installing your newer one and see if that holds the new driver after a reboot.
  15. Go here, Installling and reformatting. Down towards the bottom of the page it gives troubleshooting tips for problems doing a format and reinstall.
  16. do you have your PC set to boot off of the floppy first, then your CD, then your HHD?
  17. neither....Telefile refund or paying the man?
  18. I'm not to much into using chat rooms. Sorry I can't help there. But you said your Laptop is leased to you, would they (who is leasing it) have the XP disks to do a repair install with? The part about the "Boot.INI" is missing could also be from the infection you had. And I'm not sure if the original disks would work at this point. But I'll See if I can track down a Chat room that might be helpfull.
  19. Have you tried downloading the Hal.ddl file? you can get it here at dll.Files
  20. You Stated you had over 30 viruses, and could only remove a few of them. Which means you still have more on your machine then right. The first thing I would try doing is to remove the rest of them. There is the possibility that by now the whole OS could be corrupted beyond repair. You might have to think about trying to save what you can, and do a full reformat of your system. I know it sound rough. But it sounds like that might be your only choice. I have the feeling by now, even if we can get it cleaned out, you are going to start getting errors left and right.
  21. Lets try A different approach. Go to Bootdisk.com, and make a floppy bootdisk for win98. Reboot with the floppy and at the A:> prompt type in fdisk. Then deleate any or all partitions it list. Then put in your XP CD and reboot with that. It should let you Formate then.
  22. Yes you can uncheck it. But if you do allot of drag and dropping, It helps to know you have what you want. It's really is up to you. Try it and move a couple of things and see which way you like it better.
  23. This is a tweak that you will usually find out about on your own, but still, some may not find it right away. 1: Start > Right Click on My Computer and select properties. 2: Click on the "Advanced" tab 3: See the "Perfomance" section ? Click "Settings" 4: Disable the following: Fade or slide menus into view Fade or slide ToolTips into view Fade out menu items after clicking Show Shadows under menus Slide open combo boxes Slide taskbar buttons Use a background image for each folder type Use common tasks in folders Windows will still look nice and perform faster.
  24. Be sure to check your Hijackthis Log to see how it looks
  25. Safe Mode disables your drivers to your modem and most other things, It even set your graphic card to it's bare min. Have you been able to get your HHD cleaned out any at all by running the Disk Utilities mentioned? You could try a repair of your OS: There are two types of repair on XP. When you boot with the XP disk. You will come to the first part that asks if you want to install or do a repair. This first repair is a command prompt type for a specific repair. AT THIS POINT! If you click on install XP instead, you will see XP load files as it get ready to install the OS. When it gets done l
