Just north of us they had "Thundersnow" this morning, it was snowing heavily but having thunder and lightning. Anyone else ever heard of "Thundersnow Storms" or is this a Texas weather phenomenon? Here they have been saying all day that the snow will start in the next hour and we will get 3-5 inches by morning. Yeah, like I believe that. It has stayed rainy here; although forty miles to the northwest they do have several inches and I hear they have a lot up by the Oklahoma border. Still , I will presume that it will be cold and slippery tomorrow morning and will wait for the Texas sun to com

Lan Connection Drops Every Few Seconds
Pete_C replied to srsrsr's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Does it connect to other networks and stay connected? It almost sounds like a bad lan card or that in device manager you have the lan card power options set so windows can terminate it to save power. -
gebcc.dll is the winfixer vundo virtumonde trojan ; which requires a special removal tool a LOP infection also requires a special removal tool to identify the hidden jobs it runs and remove them. CCCleaner is crap and dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. It will offer to fix things which do not need fixing and fix them by deleting them and this is not good. To many cases of idiots making their computers non bootable by running it. The fake security alerts probably mean that the vundo trojan downloaded a smitfraud virus. You need to post your hijackthis log and have the experts re

How long was it since you last printed? While I have had best success with HP (over other brands) not drying out when you do not use them for a time; all cartridges do eventually dry out once they are opened. The ink is alcohol based and stored in a sponge. There is a vent hole to let in air as the ink is drawn out to the jets, but this will eventually let the alcohol all evaporate (especially if the printer is left on and it gets hot). Yes, the maintenance clean cartridge should be used first to check if it is dried ink in the nozzles causing the problem . Note that on most cartridges the "

Just a couple threads down is your solution http://www.besttechie.net/forums/Internet-...age-t13313.html We found that in his case it was a bad shortcut , but the initial cause is a malware infection so you need to post a hijackthis log on the malware board and get cleaned up.

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...a/removal_tools I prefer to right click and save target as instead of just double clicking the link. But it works for me just fine in IE, Opera, and Firefox. 2. Maybe an execuable jar file? Not sure what other executable extensions java uses, but exe is not the only executable out there. 3. I think those tend to be linux tar files They are compressed installers. -
Are you sure you do not mean ntoskrnl rather than ntoskrol??? http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000646.htm >NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt. Note that one of the possible causes is a keyboard short >This issue has also been known to be caused by a short in the ground wire in the keyboard cable. If you have a wireless keyboard it could also be caused by a short in the USB or a short in the reciever. I would definitely try with a different keyboard (preferably PS2 ) first and then if that is not it, try a repair install. for the second error I guess you mean XMS Driver not installed

Internet Explorer 7 Startup Error Message
Pete_C replied to Takitoes's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Would have been nice to have a link to your thread there so we could see what was removed and what removed it. If there was a shortcut (.lnk) file redirect involved or not. -
Ie Explorer Blinks On Screen But Doesn't Load.
Pete_C replied to lefty1953's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I would almost say it sounds like a service entry like the firewall or antivirus is not loading the next portion if you interrupt the boot sequence. IE it loads the service and entries in the machine and all users hives , but not the database in your user hive so it fails . Have you tried disabling your antivirus and firewall completely and then see if the problem persists? -
Hmm, my OL used to say that about one of my ex girlfriends too; but that was almost twenty five years ago., long before computers.

Same here. 8" of that lovely wet, heavy crap last night. Spring should be here by June. Well it was overcast today, but still nice and warm. Current temp is 78 degrees. The predicted low tonight is 63. I set up the rotisserie on the grill and roasted two chickens (Grandkids and their siblings and roommates kids etc over) That with some tater salad and vegetarian (porkless) pork and beans. Then they ate a half gallon of chocolate ice cream. Now they are being little banshees .

Well, I have a couple places I still send snail mail to and the OL still has some friends who are not online. Then there are the obligatory birthday, christmas etc cards which some still feel need the personal touch that an ecard lacks (I say bah humbug why send any card ). But I went and bought two books (40) of Forever stamps . That should last a couple years. I did not buy them as an "investment" or money saver, just that I am out of stamps and do not want to buy normal 41 cent stamps only to wind up having to search for the penny or two cent or whatever stamps needed to make up the pos

The GUI or Graphic User Interface is a shell which runs on windows to give you the user an interface. The standard one is Explorer.exe Products such as Windowblinds http://www.stardock.com/products/windowbli...guide_final.htm allow you to skin or change the appearance of the standard gui. Alternatively you could use a different application (For example in win9x you could use fileman to have the same gui experience as win3.11) Alternatively you could replace it with command.exe and have only a text interface with the windows kernel. There are other alternative gui environments you can use suc

That is the problem. You are trying to use a full version disk with a oem key. TT_75 found this article and posted about it previously. I have used this technique with windows 2000. It is a grey area, but I believe it is ok, so long as you are not using the same key on multiple computers. http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/setuppini.html If the original drive still works fine; just clone it to the new one. No big issue there and if the drive has a recovery image on it you get that too. I like to use the apricorn EZ upgrade kit http://www.apricorn.com/products.php?cat_id=52 It is a USB extern

http://www.hitechmommy.com/hitechmommy/ I remember that after she left G4TechTV she was doing a segment for Stuff Magazine as "The Tech Chick" and then she got married . Congratulations on the inevitable baby and taking it to the next level with the web site are due. It was nice to see a member of the old team on TV again.

Fire at the Spring Tx Alon (Fina) Refinery yesterday. Look for them to use this as an excuse to raise prices again. I saw some stations post fifteen cent price jumps today as compared to last week. http://newsvideo.blog.de/2008/02/18/alon_usa~3746572 http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/6..._texas_two.html http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articl...NLINE000515.htm Alon USA Energy Inc. said that an explosion and fire temporarily shut production at its 70000-barrel-a-day Texas refinery Hmm, 42 gallons per barrel, that is 2,940,000 gallons per day less available capacity; sure to cause a

We got over an inch of rain on Friday/ Saturday (thunderstorms) leaving us just under an inch below normal for the year so far. We are expecting more rain Thursday (hence the low high), and then a nice weekend Seven day forcast 67 63 48 52 60 68 69 38 50 42 38 40 45 50 Today, Wed,Thurs, Fri, Sat Sun , Monday. Definitely will have to figure something out to grill on Sunday if it is as nice as it looks like it will be. Maybe break out the rotisserie and make rotisserie chickens over the grill.

I was going to ask if you had replaced that damaged fan. I would not be surprised if the damaged fan is causing the CPU to heat up and that the CrashFree BIOS ASUS C.O.P. (CPU Overheating Protection) is throttling the CPU back to keep it from being cooked.

I tend to "listen" to the Television . Right now, FoodTV : Rachel Ray 30 Minute Meals. She is making salsa with red onions and garlic (and Jalapenos ) while grilling Pork tenderloins. Since I am making White Chili ( Country style pork rib/chops for the meat, canellini beans, cumin , poblano and jalapeno peppers, golden plum tomatoes garlic and onion) the smells match up pretty well. Of course, since like any good chili it has to slow cook for a couple hours at least she will finish way before mine is ready.

Odd Internet Connection Issue
Pete_C replied to Honda_Boy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
It sounds like your ISP has begun filtering torrents to protect themselves from possible liability for allowing sharing of stolen material. Unfortunately this often causes problems with legitimate file sharing as well. Have you contacted them to see if they are indeed doing this and if they can allow the legitimate torrents you want through? -

Thanks for the advice! Though I had tried 3 different ports already. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I'm not sure about the router thing. I don't think that was it. Will explain in a second though. As far as interference. That did come to mind and I went in search of any of those, but none. On a very much UP note, I do believe I have resolved the issue. *knocks on wood* Late last night I found a 12 page thread on netgear's forums where people were experiencing the same issues. I got through the first few pages and about halfway through, I noticed something I had not tried yet. Someone else sa
