  1. ..yes.. with new and improved features....you can now use profanity...and that's right kiddies...watch out... porn links are allowed too.. ..and of course we have a whole new group of new "senior mods" all well trained in censoring and locking posts... just don't expect too much tech stuff...
  2. Pete..you did a great job over there..too bad they are so clueles..i sincerly hope you find it comfortable over here...
  3. ..how nice it is to have you back on the board....as has been said many times and ways...we missed you..
  4. well..they did it again..about a year ago ZA released a bug filled...unstable..and messed up version 5.0xx..which created all sorts of havac with peoples machines...(including mine..) made more frustrating by my ill advised purchase of the pro version about the time they released it... the only fix was to uninstall the "upgrade" and install the old 4.5 version..a situation that lasted for months...with numerous little "fixed" version patches released willy-nilly.. they finally put a relatively stable version of the 5.0xxx out and things seemed to settle down to a comfortable level for a while.
  5. ok..thanxs folks...lot's of good suggestions..i'll let you know when i get the fan..how i hooked it up.. thanx again

  7. ok..since replacing the slave hard drive..i figured it might be a good idea to add a case fan..to help with the extra heat..but i'll be darned if i can find how to power it..i see that the cpu fan plugs into the motherboard..but i can find no other obvious power source for an additional fan.. anybody steer me in the right direction..??
  8. ...let no good deed go unpunished...lol
  9. Just a quick follow-up to this little adventure..removed bad and installed new Seagate 200GB drive with no problems..used the win xp disk management to initialize..partition..and format the new..very good documentation in the winxp help file and seagates website had no issues with drive letters as i had worried about and now i'm just putting all the backed-up data back in place..had one bad set of back-up dvd's(nero backitup6.6...)..but had duplicated the data on another backup so i did not lose any data..made me mad though..as nero had confirmed/verified the data on the backup..but failed to
  10. guess i should have been more specific..the Maxtor was partitioned into 3 drives...k..l..and m..i'd like to use those same drive letters on the new drive..when i remove the Maxtor i'm hoping those drive letters are still available..? BTW..if you are anywhere near a Frys..they have a 200GB Seagate ultra ata/100 for $109.99 with an additional $50 rebate..net $59..but hurry the offer expires on 7-19 here in CA... i took the 160GB Seagate i bought at "Best" BUY back.. i really like the 5 year warranty seagate offers...
  11. ya..freeze ups when accessing my docs...which is on the slave..strange clicks and sounds from the drive..really slow start-ups/lockups of any program that used the drive to access data..strange and ominous error messages in the system event viewer..BUT what convinced me was the Maxtor drive diagnostic utility(powermax 4.21) that confirmed and advised of the drives eminent demise.. very disappointing because this drive was my backup stategy for primary drive failures..sure didn't figure to have it fail so soon..but that said..i still have been burning my important files to dvd on a pretty reg
  12. ...fortunately it's set up strictly as a slave..and I've been pretty good about backing up my data files to dvd..and it's dying a slow death..so I've been able to move any critical data back to the c drive.. it's on a ata/133 pci card with updated drivers...and I've bought a Seagate with a 5 year warranty to replace it...my question is..what's the best way to remove the defective drive...? any issues with just unplugging it(the maxtor) from the pci card..and plugging the new seagate..? any help would be appreciated..
  13. thanx marty..sorry to hear about il_wiccan's bereavement..as always we'll put him in our prayers...hope all is well with you.. wayne
  14. Thanx Liz..track season went pretty good...but it took up much more time than i was prepared for this year..we invested in a high tech timing system this year and it took a lot of trial and error to get it running efficiently and more importantly accurately..nothing worse than having a $15,000 timing system that doesn't work right..LOL good news is i learned alot about networking computers..and we managed to professionally time 14 meets..smallest was 400 kids..biggest was 1700. my 11 yo daughter had a bit of an off year so no junior olympics this year..but she'll be ready next..that's why i'm
  15. ok..i know i haven't been around a lot for a couple of months..with running the track club and all..but it seems that good 'ol il_wiccan is missing around here and the other board...what did imiss..?? hope he's ok..

  19. Good grief..this country is going to hell in a handbasket.. we'll shove algebra down the throats of 2nd graders..but don't dare use red ink to correct their mistakes...we are all doomed..
  20. heh..heh..well i was a carpenter for 40 years so i know a thing or two about routers..but i'm guessing that's not what you meant..LOL best to post a new thread/post with a new question..
  21. i'm still guessing power supply...or a loose or damaged connection..i'd say crack the case and look around..get rid of the dust bunnies and disconnect/reconnect all cables and ram.. ..if that doesn't solve the issue you might consider a new power supply..then you at least have a good start on a new build..
  22. it would help if you would provide a bit more info...what os..?? any error messages...?? overheating..?? have you checked all the cables/connections... with the limited info you gave..sounds like it might be a power supply issue..but that's a pure guess..
  23. where'd you buy this...at a flea market..?? everthing i see on google shows this as an internal drive...?? are you trying to "convert" this in some way..?? i think you need to be more specific about what you've got..and what you're trying to do..
