Vista printer sharing is flakey. Two things I would try. I would first install the printer using the usb port to your vista laptop. Do this to make sure the drivers are installed. After the printer is installed, delete the printer from "printers and faxes", this will still leave the drivers available for vista. Now when you try and install the network printer, do it a non intuitively way. Instead of choosing installing a network printer, choose, install a local printer, then create a new port, type is "local". Then it will ask you for the name of the port. Enter both the computer name and sha

To back up what Pete said. I just had a computer come through my shop that was freezing up in Windows, but more importantly, while booting, it was giving an error in regards to an overclocking. A new PSU fixed it :-) edit added later// as John "Hannibal" Smith says "I love it when a plan comes together"

Since you can see the printers, it seems as you have the permissions set properly to share them. What method are you using to install the printers to your vista computer? During the install, do you get any errors?

Delldimension E510 Wont Start Up. Blinking Orange Led
shanenin replied to d14blo's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
With about a 99% certainty it is either the power supply or the motherboard. I would try a new power supply(you can order a cheap one for $20 shipped) and see if that fixes it. If that does not solve the problem, you probably have a mother board that is going bad. this power supply is just a cheapy, but I have had really good luck using them in my shop. As far as I know I have not had one fail on me yet. I have easily used 20 of them http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817152019 Depending on that dell case, you may have to mod it slightly(very unlikely), but more then likely it -
Can Anyone Help Me With Remote Desktops? :)
shanenin replied to PapaLex606's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
If he takes the time to look at the welcome screen it will show you as being logged in. at that point he could choose not to bump you off. I like windows built in remote desktop because it automatically resizes the resolution of the server machine to match that of the client machine, that is a great feature. Between two Windows computers, it works really nice. The following may be a better solution for you. You can use the free version of real vnc.. It works by installing the server on the computer you want to control and the client on the other computer. This would allow you to control his lo -

Set up a new user account on your brothers computer with a password. Then use that user and password to log in. You could also just add a password to your brothers account and use his username. -
As a side note. If still lagging after reloading, my hunch would be a bad harddrive.

Computer Will Not Turn On Basically
shanenin replied to xxcraig's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
are you able to boot in safemode? If that works, run both mbam and superanti and restore all items in the quarantine -
I don't think it is saved as that file anymore. After it is downloaded, i would guess it is extracted then the original is deleted. You will probably have to redownload it.

I am running Windows Server 2003(its overkill, but IÂ happen to have a copy) being used for backing up client images of their computers. I created a new network share. I just noticed I can write to it, but in a limited way. I can't write files directly on the root of the share, only directories(folders). Is this a security feature?

As Bubba Bob said, as far as i know all 3Gb/s sata drives can run as 1.5Gb/s with a jumper.

My advice may be flawed(maybe even bad). I have had good luck, but maybe it causes more issue then I am aware of. When we(people who repair computers for a living) work on computers it is different. We have physical access and can fix our mistakes(backup and reload). Not everyone is able to do that. As a disclaimer: to clean up spyware/malware, with greatly reduced risk, it is best to follow the directions of a malware expert. They are trained very well. They take many precautions. Without question, running tools like combofix unsupervised is riskier then running them with supervision.

Back up the data, format, then reinstall XP.

IÂ know a little bit. Back in February of 2007, almost 2 years ago, their was a bug in combofix that if it was ran while a computer was infected with a certain piece of malware it would recursively deleted everything on your C: drive. Their may be other issues, but I don't know, since the info is kept from the public. The os may not be bootable. As far as I know, no virus or software in practice(in theory it is probably possible) can harm your hardware. As to the computer not running after using it, many programs can do this. Any program that deletes files or adds files to your system can do

Pages Slow To Load Or Close
shanenin replied to chief1966's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
you could temporarily disable all of your startup programs. This will reduce your ram usage. If this helps you problem, you can investigate further http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.html -
is it an option to reload it?
-
I think that is only part of the reason. I had a trained malware expert give me information on how to use the recovery console to recover from a combofix mishap. He got reprimanded for helping me. That info obviously is not helping the malware coders to get extra help. Sorry I am just grumpy because valuable info is available in forums, but only if you are a member. Its my problem, you are just following the rules. No hard feelings :-)

Thanks

The "privateness" of malware removal drives me crazy, it is what it is and I just need to accept it. Since this info is not shared openly, I guess i just will have to run it with out knowing. What s shame :-\
-
I understand combofix is dangerous and not to be used by non trained users. For my own personal use(I am willing to risk damaging Windows and my data), I noticed combofix would not run on two different computers in the same day. Is their a new spyware threat that is causing this? Any info from you trained malware experts would be appreciated. It just gets to Please wait: Combofix is preparing to run.

I'm Trying To Setup...
shanenin replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
if you are connecting your router to a modem, you should set the connection type to DHCP, not PPoE after changing the configuration, it may be a good idea to power cycle your modem and router. -
I'm Trying To Setup...
shanenin replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
sure, they are pretty easy to setup. Are you using this for both wired and wireless computers? Make sure you set it to factory defaults. To do this, while it is plugged in, hold the reset button in for about 10 seconds. This is located on the back side. To log in and configure the router you need to plug a computer into one of the 4 ports ethernet ports in back(they are labeled 1-4) In your web browser enter the address 192.168.1.1 The user name is left blank and the password is: admin below is a link to the manual http://www-ca.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit...u=1175239203879
