I have been saying how well the site has been doing as of late, but I haven't shown you guys any actual stats. Below are some stats for the site portion of BestTechie - the main page, the blog, etc in July of 2008. Weeks Stats: Months Stats: Now add those those stats to our forum stats - we're looking at roughly 35k visitors overall for the month of July. In addition, we are now in the top 100,000 sites on the web according to Quantcast.com - their stats are a bit off it seems, but nonetheless it's looking pretty good. On a side note, I'm really hoping we hit 3000 members before the Best

Hey everyone, As of today (July 12th, 2008) I have implemented Kontera ContentLink Ads onto the forums. I have been experimenting with them on the main site and the BestTechie blog for a few days now and decided I would now add them to the forums. The ContentLink Ads are only visible to forum guests and members who are not logged in, once you either register and/or log in to the forums they will disappear. Of course, as you all know, running and maintaining a growing website is not free (unfortunately) and does have its costs. Not only that, but in order for me to continue to better and gr

I would like to sell my iPod Touch 16GB model for $170 + S&H. It is in excellent condition. It will include the pair of headphones, the iPod USB cable to transfer music, videos, etc, and the original boxing. Of course, I will have to remove all the music on it. Also a small note, the iPod is engraved with my name Jeff Weisbein and BestTechie.net underneath the name. Not the end of the world, at least you will always remember me. B

I assume you are running a 32bit version of Windows XP, if that is the case, Windows will not address more than the 3.25GB it is showing. In order for it to recognize the full 4GB of RAM you will need to get a 64bit edition of Windows. B

No problem guys. It's not much all things considered but I figured I would share it anyway. B

Will look into that Matt. Thanks! B

I should also ask if these documents have any special fonts, wordart, or anything that may be different than the norm? If you would like, you can send one of the documents to me and I will see if I can open it. If Word is now not opening documents it used to be able to it may be corrupting them. B

Try opening Word and using File -> Open to open the file - does that work? B

Follow up post, if you would like to read more information exactly what is going on and why you cannot open these files without converting them first see here. It has to do with the way the new office documents are encoded and saved, which unfortunately is not backwards compatible with the older versions of Office. B

Are these files that are having trouble being opened .docx files? Meaning they were created with either Mac Office 2008 or Office 2007 on the PC? That is what I am thinking. Try using the XML converter provided by Microsoft and use that to convert the files that are not opening - see if that fixes the problem. XML Converter for Mac OSX Direct Download Link B

Got the sound quality much better, however, now I can't play music and be on Skype at the same time. My mic is a USB condenser mic and my sound card is a Chaintech AV-710. It has to be a configuration issue... the USB and sound card aren't playing nice. B

Thanks Matt. I'll try that again. Also, I tried to sign up for OpenWengo but it says the service is temporarily offline. Any information regarding that? B
