  3. Hey Everyone, I will be moving the site to a new server in the very near future. The new server is already configured and ready to host the site. The only downtime I expect is 15-30 minutes so I'm not going to post a date / time when this will occur - it will just happen. So if you come to the site and see it's down... it'll be back shortly. New Server Specs: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2GB RAM DDR2 2 x 400GB SATA II (RAID 1) 1GB NIC I will post back here once the move is complete so if you notice any issues please let me or one of the other admins/mods know. Thank you! B
  4. Well... they're now officially closed. B

  7. That really sucks considering their "all sales are final" policy. However, selling broken merch is just low. Additionally marking up the price and then taking 30-40% off is pretty low as well. I actually used my trusty iPhone to check Amazon's price of the Logitech Orbit AF I purchased to replace my Orbit MP to make sure the deal was as good as it could get and indeed it was so I'm pleased with my purchase. 8. I think the first Linux distro I played with was Knoppix... from there I went with Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog). I use Debian for my dedicated server. I've also experimented with other distros such as ArchLinux, OpenSUSE, etc. B
  9. Not to step on rock's toes, but, you need to update Malwarebytes the current version is 1.34. Download it here: http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe Download, install, update (if possible), have it remove what it finds. Rock went to bed so he will finish up tomorrow. B
  10. Hi System32, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to point this out to us. One of the nice things about Google AdSense is that you can filter out domains you do not want to appear on your site. I do make an attempt to filter out domains that are suspicious. I will make sure those domains are added to our filter. I also did a little searching and found a compiled list of possible rogue anti-spyware domains and will add those as well. B

  13. What Rorschach112 said is correct - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is also considered an Anti-Spyware application. Malware is just another term for spyware/adware. It is derived from Malicious Software. Hope that helps! B
  14. I'm just looking for some feedback on the forum, please be honest so we can do what's in the best interest for BestTechie and our members. If you have any suggestions and/or additional comments feel free to leave a post. B
  15. I'm just curious as to what everyone here thinks about Obama wanting to impose a $500,000 salary for top executives of companies who took bailout money? Let me know what you think! I'll throw in my 2cents later - class is about to start! B
  16. Are you interested in joining the fight against malware? Below is a list of free online schools where you can learn such skills and help give back to the community. It is important to note that there is a lot of work and learning involved, but as long as you have the desire and are in it for the long haul, you will be able to get through it. It is preferable to have some computer knowledge but is not essential. The training is a steady progress so you wont be dropped into the deep end straight away. Students that complete training are expected to "pay it forward" by assisting in the forums, w

  19. Well, yeah, 7 is actually 6.1 (Vista was 6.0). However, XP was 5.1 so technically I guess you could say it's a full version up. I guess since Vista was 6.0 - they wanted to move away from anything resembling 6 and 7 is the next number? (supposedly lucky too) I also agree that 7 is what Vista should have been originally. I think MS has so far created enough good hype and have fixed a lot of the initial Vista issues (a lot were fixed with SP1 though) with 7. Side note: I'm not a Vista hater - it worked for me when I used it. B
  20. Hey Everyone, I know some people were interested in the forum subscriptions, however, with the poor economy and such it isn't on the top of your list of "must-have's". That being said, I decided I would lower price of the BestTechie Contributor subscription packages in an attempt to allow the people who wanted to become a subscriber do so for a lesser cost. The new pricing is as follows: BestTechie Contributor (Yearly): $14.95/year - save $10! BestTechie Contributor (Lifetime): $49.95/one time fee - save $15! All of the same features/functionality applies. I hope this allows more people who wa
