  2. i just feel like i need a major change in my life cause i'm not happy with things here and i've always had a curiosity about Vegas. it's funny how we all have this image of Vegas as the City of Sin but the more i've watched about it the less it seems like that. plus one of my fathers best friends is moving there to run a concrete company in about 6 months and he offered to let me go with him. i'd like to talk Dan into moving with me but he's still got another 2 years of college for his third degree. i can still go pretty much anywhere i want, i just have to let them know where before i go. if

  4. Ubuntu has my vote too. It is very good at finding hardware.

    Happy B-day Rawe

    Have a great Birthday, Rawe!!!
  7. It is a terrible thing to watch someone you love get weaker and weaker. I sincerely hope your Grandfather recovers. This must be a very stressful time for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Grandfather. Hang in there.
  8. LOL, I had a beer fest like that a week ago. I felt a tad under the weather the next day. Have a good evening and sleep, old buddy.
  9. Happy Birthday Snaxe and MrBill!! I hope you guys have a great day!
  10. Happy Birthday to my favourite search engine!

    I'm Back.......

Hey mikex, glad to hear that you came through it safely! Thanks for the update. I hope your home isn't too badly damaged.
  15. Good luck with this one, wolfman2001! I've also got an 11 year old daughter who I constantly worry about when she's out of my sight. This guy is not moral, he is a pedophile, and therefore dangerous. I would turn this over to the police, FBI. In the mean time uberpenguin's advice is excellent; he knows a lot about Internet security.
  16. On a Plll 700 just about anything will run fine. For a first install I'd go with Ubuntu. Just out of curiosity how much RAM does the unit have?
  17. politician...............heh-heh I think most politicians "sell themselves"
  18. I agree, Ubuntu would be a good choice. The system specs are good, a P 500 will run Linux just fine, I'm running Debian 3.1 on a Plll 500 with 192 MB RAM. I share the same concern; 64 MB of RAM will be deathly slow to run x windows. Flux, Blackbox, xfce will run the unit, it'll use a fair amount of swap. I've got slackware 10.2 running on a Pll 266 with 128 MB RAM, using xfce and it runs okay, doesn't go into swap that much. Another distro you may consider is Vector linux 5.1; it is based on slackware and is designed to run on older hardware. You can download it here: Vector Linux 5.1 Her
  19. LOL, you're right! I could use a better computer. I'd like to have a plasma monitor, keyboard, mouse hooked up to a beowulf cluster consisting of IBM's Deep Blue, and another 1000 nodes, each node being a Cray computer hard wired into a 100 GB/sec T3 connection. That'd probably be most of the cash right there, heh-heh. I'd be able to download my e-mail at light speed.
  20. Okay after buying all of the technology stuff that I could ever want (totalling 50,000) I would host an Octoberfest for all of the people in my country (totalling 100,000,000), lots of hangovers). The rest I would spend on research into AIDS and cancer.
  21. Yes, it'll be great when Chappy returns!
  22. Macbeth...........not really a comedy, but, my favourite tragedy......When shall we three meet again, in thunder, lightening, or in rain?
