  1. Great find with the wide keyboard tray -- that's always been a sticking point for me too. I've always wound up using the desktop instead for both the keyboard and mouse rather than have them on two different levels -- both are higher than I'd prefer, but that's less awkward than reaching UP for the mouse all the time. Any other job prospects?
  2. Do you mean, if a site tries to leave a cookie on your computer but cannot because you have blocked cookies, does that cookie have to go SOMEWHERE, like on THEIR computer? Then no. The cookie is tied to your browsing session and wouldn't make sense anywhere else.
  3. The first grocery trip is always the most expensive since you have to stock up on EVERYTHING, but many of those groceries last and won't have to be bought again for a while, though it'll be tempting to keep adding on new stuff you COULD use. Can't help ya with the phone or the job. Hope both work out for ya. How ya sleepin' in the new joint?
  4. Interesting that Korean officials chose Bill Clinton (I can think of a half-dozen reasons why -- none flattering to the North Koreans). Also, interesting that we had to assure everyone this visit was solely about getting the women back. Carter's visit caused quite a ruckus, we avoided that this time. It would be very, very nice if this led to a more genial relationship with North Korea. Yeah, they need to make some changes first, but .... it's a start.
  5. I love how they always get --><-- THIS close to speaking English.
  6. The only negative I can see is that part of the requirement for the pardon of the "prisoners" was an apology to Korea. Did we do something that required an apology? Anyone actually SEE what the apology consisted of? We caved? I dunno, the details of this part of the deal are scarce. I don't know why, but when I first heard BC was going to Korea I didn't even think about his particularly close "connection" to the State Department. Pretty sneaky on our part if ya ask me. No member of our government was officially involved, so nyaa-nyaa-nyaa Korea! My first thought upon hearing he was going was
  7. MS "fixed" this crack, so don't get your hopes up for a stolen copy of Windows 7. Some people have said, "Why did it take so long?"

I love accelerators! Double-click a word (or select a phrase or sentence), an arrow pops up. The arrow leads to a menu of all the accelerators you have installed (with your most used or "default" accelerators for various categories in the first menu; your favorite search engine, favorite mapping tool, favorite social site, etc.). Lookin' for a place? Map it. What's that word mean? Define it. What the heck are they talking about? Search it. Need a pic of something? Do an image search. Someone mentions a movie? Look it up (I use Netflixes search). Look up a home on Zillow, share a story with you
  9. Ahh ... your first apartment. Enjoy! Hope you don't come home one day to find your roommate beating up his ex-wife (yeah, that happened to me).
  10. No burst bubbles here, I just didn't want to muck up my suggestion with exceptions, explanations and caveats (I actually started to type that info, thought better of it and backspaced over it). I never cared for Google, couldn't put into words why, I just don't. Mapping's good though. I REALLY never cared for Yahoo! They never managed to make a product that I didn't have to "think" about to use (ie., "What do I do next? What's this? Where's this?"). I never "used" MSLive except incidentally, and, like Yahoo!, it was unimpressive. However, I switch entirely to Bing (on a lark) and have had no
  11. If people didn't upgrade to Vista due to worries over compatibility with (relatively) ancient hardware, Seven is not going to be the magic solution. If it's being promoted as such there's gonna be a huge backlash when people discover it won't magically work with hardware that doesn't have updated drivers. As for speed, Seven's got that, but partly due to the fact that by default it doesn't install stuff you MAY need. Install that stuff, and ... who knows? And a lot of businesses just don't need to upgrade. XP does what they need. Heck, '9x is still in use becaue it does everything some peopl
  12. I'd say your time is worth the twenty bucks, but I don't know your situation of course. MY time would be worth it. When you say it's not as effective, do you mean the latest version? I'm sure OEM's have come up with new ways to annoy customers who don't WANT to be hounded by useless junk, maybe the latest version's better or will soon be. At any rate, even if it gets rid of SOME of the junk, that's junk YOU don't have to ferret out wasting valuable time.
  13. That "tool" is just a fancy-schmancy aftermarket version of the Windows' own System Information Tool. Everybody's been using it for years and years (I have it on my new system right now).
  14. And Lenovo is based .... where? Uh-huh. Great place to do business (but please keep buying our debt).
  15. I guess that's one thing, good or not (and I believe not) that was probably solely a result of the push to punish Microsoft for being successful. I believe they would have integrated IE much, MUCH further with the OS if they hadn't been forced to retreat. Funny that Google is getting credit now for testing an OS that is nothing BUT a browser. Gee, isn't that what Microsoft was on its way to creating with IE/Windows? Sure it was! Guess the Early Bird sometimes gets shot rather than getting the worm.
  16. Sounds like a business plan: A site where you place and take bets on the longevity of web companies. The odds would go up and down with rampant rumors. You could get RICH I telz ya!
  17. I think he's saying there was a program he was satisfied with that automated the process with XP, but couldn't find a satisfactory substitute for Vista. I agree that, with enough sluething and work on your part, you can, eventually, get rid of the crappola. Related note: I did all that with my new system but weeks later, when I clicked on a link somewhere, a browser window popped up that STILL had that "IE by Dell" crap in the title bar. Thought I'd gotten rid of it, but it's still in there somewhere.
  18. Forced? That's laughable. The EU deserves whatever they get for letting bureaucrats force useless decisions onto companies; The average consumer won't be helped much if at all and may even be hurt by this, the tech-savvy consumer won't be affected much, if at all, and MS has been coerced into promoting competing products. Stupidest. Legislation. Ever. -----

I can't figure out what word you meant to use. A tear? Nope. A leer? No ... I'm also diggin' IE's "Accelerators."
  20. Err, not a problem for me.
  21. Agreed. Wish a term other than "tracking" had become common as that implies there are no limits to what's tracked.
  22. Makes sense to me to have the number two and three companies in a particular area of tech combine to fight the overwhelming number one, but one of the many things Google does well is NOT standing still. It should be an interesting fight. I have no particular feelings toward Google -- I don't know why people do. IMO it's like Apple where fans overlook and downplay the negatives because, well, they're fans.
  23. Sounds like a geeky version of the "America's Got Talent" competition show; America's Got IT!
