So I've go with a 20GB HDD, 256MB RAM, what processor would be good, something above a PIII 800? I think I might just buy a cheap laptop with no hard drive or memory and buy the RAM off of ebay

No, once the transformer becomes unwound, its unwound. I've never seen that happen, and I don't think it's even possible, but with computers - you never know!

I'm looking at purchasing a laptop off of eBay or fixing up one on there. Preferable I'd like to spend as little as possible (less than $200). I have a 20GB notebook hard drive, but I was wondering what processor and RAM would be my best bet. I know Linux will run with very low specs, but I want enough power to do some useful things. So, would I want 128 or 256 MB of RAM Would a PIII 833 be enough? Less/more cpu power? Let me know, TIA!

Sorry to get everyone's attention! I don't have a secret! I'm just trying to get some more activity going in the Modding section in the PC Support section. It's kind of fizzled lately, but I just posted a nice thread about my cellular phone modding. Don't be shy people! Computers, phones, cars, anything is fair game to post about! Even questions about projects or ideas for projects!

Speaking of emergency driving skills. Mine saved me yesterday, I about took out Bambi and its mother on a back road!

Got out my dad's camera for some original pics - here we go Front of the phone: Side of the phone: Back of the phone: Keys with light: Keys in the dark: (sorry for the blur, there was like a 6 second exposure time!) Notice I've got the middle keys in white, and the outer in orange (that's why I asked about luminous paper some time ago)

I thought I'd add this image to add some gravity to the project (it's not like changing the cover and keys on an old nokia!) Clockwise from the top left you have: 1- MS pro duo memory stick 2- Actual keys and connector to the PCB (the white thing) 3- The internal middle case part of the phone 4- Vibrator (small green and silver piece) 5- The Keys 6- Internal Antenna (the white rectangular piece) 7- Charger piece (the small black piece between the antenna and the large PCB) 8- The actual cell phone PCB 9- Play/Pause Key 10- Speaker (only partially visible in the picture) 11- Antenna Cover 12-

If the Power supply is putting out nothing on the ATX connector (ussually it'll just put out like +5 volts or one thing) the power supply will turn on (so you'll hear fans) BUT, the motherboad will get no power, so it'll never post. Ussually though, when PSU's go bad, you get no power, but they CAN put out power in some cases. That's why I recommend you get a cheap PSU tester. They are about $15 bucks, and well worth it

Seconded - anyone who touches a man's private property (which includes home, family, car, woman) shall be beaten. BTW, (since I'm getting back in school mode ) that's a misplaced modifier - it reads that people banged up your car in the mouth. Wow, I need something better to do than correct grammar on a forum at 11:00 at night.

So, my cell phone charger broke due to an unfortunate drinking accident (no need to go into details) and I had been fixing it about every week all summer - but last week it finally went ka-put. So, I ordered a new one off of eBay for about 6 bucks, then the bordom set in. I originally wanted to just replace the housing of my phone (it was beat up a little bit and the screen protector had a scratch on it) - but come to find out, the SonyEricsson K750 is the exact same phone as the d750 and the w800. So, I ordered a totally new housing off of cnn.com for around 35 dollars and it came in today.

And rich suburban white kids around the ages of 12-14 - they speak like this

You CANNOT just resell them and transfer the warranty to them. My boss told me he would do that because Newegg sometimes has the best prices, but he wouldn't be able to keep up with warranties.

Your tax dollars at work. And what REALLY PISSES ME OFF is when they do this crap in the middle of the day or during rush hour while they stand around doing jack* but they still stop traffic. Do the friggen work in the middle of the night and actually make people work and the dang job will be done in days not months. I swear - I come from Illinois (some of the worst construction in America) where roads have been in progress of construction since I moved from there (11 years ago) to North Carolina where we have the most poorly designed road systems

Need Help Deciding On An Asus Motherboard
xxkbxx replied to Syphina's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Your main question is AM2 or 939. If you go 939, go with the Deluxe one - the Premium doesn't have features worth paying for. Your socket decision will be based on what you want to pay (less for a 939 chip) but you're sacrificing future ability to update to the newer chips -
People do stupid things while working to save a 10th of a second of time - especially after you've worked with dangerous equiptment for a long period of time - you forget about how dangerous it is

While this is true, I'm sure most games have an optional in game WS resolution setting for situations like this. I know they have that in standard resolutions but you would have to check your current games for that widescreen reso. support. Not all games do - suprisingly even BF2 doesn't support it
-
It's not the hard drive, it would post even if it was not functioning. Sounds like memory or the PSU. Try different memory combinations if you have different sticks because one may be going bad.
-
What do you need explained? The overall voltage, or the difference between the two?

Error When Backing Up Dvd With Dvd Shrink
xxkbxx replied to rjmiller15's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I haven't been able to get DVD shrink to work for me lately -
I wouldn't be concerned. Voltages will vary as long as its nothing crazy from normal

Would they be able to fit between the surface mount led's and the keys. It's barely a mm of space and it needs to be very plyable so that my 3 key doesn't activate the 2 and 6 keys. I'll see how the celephane looks then go from there. And Blim - you're right about the Brit's, besides, from the looks of the internet I might be the only American into phone modding! Here's somebody's phone with pink backlighting (mine will be the same case, but with orange) Celphone image

Way to ruin the fun!!! I always listen to loud music and it's never hurt me - hold on the phone is ringing - never mind I just heard that in my head

That's the ticket - I'll have to hit up Michael's before the new case comes in for my phone
