  1. Some people seem to have a problem with the whole "on-ramp" theory. Getting up to merging speed just makes too much sense. Big difference between northern and southern drivers. Southerners do not know how to merge. It pisses me off so much when people hit their friggen brakes right in front of me on the on ramp!!!!
  2. Know I need to learn how to run Linux. With the help of the internet and a few tutorials (not to mention this forum) it shouldn't be too difficult though! I contacted a seller on ebay who said I could get one from him for $20 with shipping outside of eBay. He sells all his items with free shipping if you pay by money order instead of paypal (normally 22 dollar shipping) I was a little nervous at first of paying him by money order for an order outside of ebay, but he has 150+ positive feedback. Is there a way to track money orders though?
  3. Got the laptop itselft today! I just removed the LCD screen, installed my hard drive (I decided to use the 20 gb I already owned), and check everything else. The person who sold me the new LCD lives in Florida and informed me that it may take a while, cause of the storms. Maybe I'll have this beast running in a week or so
  4. Yeah, but I only buy them under certain circumstances. For example, my amplifier in my car went out (probably from overheating), and I bought a replacement one off of eBay for $150, normally $300, with the option of buying a 3 year warranty for $15. Now I will play that thing as loud as I want with no worries My main concern about the LCD is breaking it during installation. The warranty doesn't work for the first 30 days, but I could hold on for 30 days and just say it broke during normal use. It cost me $147 and that was on a deal. On the other hand, I have 45 days or so to buy the warra
  5. My schedule for my senior year of high school is jam packed. I'm taking 5 periods a day (normal people take 4, but I'm coming to school an hour early to take AP Physics) plus I have AP BC Calculus year round. I don't anticipate too much free time in the near future!
  6. Hello everyone, I bought a laptop LCD off of eBay and I'm wondering if it would be worth getting a warrenty on the screen. I bought a warrenty on an amp in the past (3 years, no questions asked for about 15 bucks) My question is - would the warrenty cover a broken LCD screen? I can't find anything on their site that would say no, but let me know if I'm overlooking something
  7. Well, I just bought the New LCD after I saw that the seller had a full warrenty and that factory direct lcd's of this model are about 400+ dollars. The seller also had a decent feedback record (most of which were IBM parts) All that's left to buy is cd rom drive, wifi card, battery and maybe a hard drive. So far my total is roughly 185 for the lappy + 150 for the screen + 10 for the power cord = $345
  8. In a quagmire ... I can Buy It Now a Factory Direct LCD Panel for $147 w/ shipping Or I can wait out a used entire screen assembly that is currently at 108 dollars for another 24 hours I'm unsure of what to do because the factory direct one is a real good deal. I will e-mail the seller to see of a warrenty
  9. Yeah, I didn't feel like paying extra for the entire top case of the laptop. I found some directions catered specifically for the t30 because it has its wifi antenna above the lcd.
  10. Not exactly, the LCD is cracked
  11. Yeah, I've never had trouble with IBM and anything before. The only problem is I bid on the auction with a few minutes left before I searched for a replacement LCD and YIKES! some of them run $200 bucks! I just assumed they were like ones my boss has purchased in the past for $80 or so. My plans as of now are: Wait until I receive the laptop, hook it up to an external monitor and verify what I purchased. Get a power supply (anywhere from free to 25 bucks) Install a hard drive (I've got a 4, 10, and 20GB here - FREE!) Get a CD Drive (either a vanilla CD Drive for free or maybe a Combo off of
  12. Been looking for a laptop for Linux and such, and just bought it off ebay today! It's an IBM T30 with a P4 and 512MB RAM. I got it for $180 (w/ shipping) but it has a cracked screen. Once I buy a new screen, battery, power supply, and such it'll be around $450 for a pretty decent machine. I'm going to wait until I get it in the mail to buy the screen - but I've got a project to work on now!
  13. I think they should drive around in piece of crap pickups and corollas - nobody ever slows down for those!
  14. Okay, when you replace your cards, I'll take your old ones!
  15. Phones are quite slow to load music on. Your best bet, if it's possible, is to use an SD or MS card if the phone supports it.
  16. My buddy just fixed up an old Maverick (I don't know what year) and he put some cherry bombs on the back. Translation for not-very-car-people LOUD! Louder than the flowmaster on my Blazer (the stereo's louder than my muffler) Lot's of loud trucks in North Carolina, have you heard of "straight piping?" That means no muffler, just lots of noise. Maybe if I get motivated I'll get out the real video camera and post of a video of my stereo system!

Bumping to cover the spam Well... anyways, I figure since I enjoy take crap apart, it makes sense to go into engineering (electrical/computer hardware) If only I could finish the college ap I started earlier this week. I kinda stalled out around the 5th or 6th page where I have to write 3 essays. Oh well, I have till October!
  18. Okkkkkk ... That's ONE way to put it. Another way would be to say you were going too fast considering the weather and the abilities of the vehicle (extra weight out back could have made the spin-out even worse). First time I drove a pickup in the rain was ... interesting. It acted like the rear tires were bald, they kept slipping so much. Had to baby it something fierce. No, trucks do spin out real easily. I was driving my dad's Nissan frontier in somewhat icy weather, like 36 degrees, and the back end slides out over bridges when you're going about 30 - (the bridge is on an interestate wi
  19. I live in North Carolina, but I'm really looking at going to GT after my senior year of high school. I thought about going to NC State, but it's not really the type of school I want to go to (which is more urban, and more of an engineering program). I have no problem with UGA (I don't even have a favorite college team, being that I'm originally from Chicago, I never followed college as much as the pros) But I do pull for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers! (a 1-aa school that my brother plays football for)

Lol, the keys are made so that the white light shined over them, so I just cut 2 2cm strips that covered the white LED's. The LED's run where you see the orange in the keys (I didn't want to do the whole keypad, because I think the paper would interfer with the typing. How old is your son? I got started taking things apart a whiles back (on broken things mostly) and know I'm able to fix most things. My dad had a CD changer that got screwed up and sat around for a year unused and one day I just took it apart and fixed it (there were 2 motors in it, one to spin the platter that holds 5 cd's,
  21. The main reason I'm looking at doing this on a lappy are because I: dont' want to mess up the home computer (the one I built) the home computer has an AMD X2 processor that no linux distro has been compatible with (even fedora) i want to get into people's wireless internet (I mean, "let people know they have wireless vulnerabilities") Besides, as of know, it looks like I might be going to college at Georgia Tech around this time next year so I might be needing a computer for a little wireless mischief
  22. Suse is an awesome distro, agreed! Would it be good for a linux noob? I'm pretty much clueless to linux, but i'm a really fast learner.
  23. As shanenin said you don't want to go too much below 256 MB RAM. A 20 GB HD, 256 MB of RAM, and a Plll 800 will run most distros. I run a Plll 800 with 256 MB RAM and an 18 GB scsi drive, running Slackware, and it runs fine. Some distros require a bit more RAM to run optimally. I'm just looking at running some security suites for some ethical wireless hacking!
  24. you asked for it...go read my post about modding a car. if you like that mod I have another for you. Not bad on the car! We have a word for things like that around my parts _____-riggin' Whatever gets it to work though!
