  1. dual core all the way... You'll never regret it.
  2. Don't rule out a stick of ram starting to go on you.
  3. Moi? Non! Mostly describing MY experience with upgrades, and poking some fun. I did say that, like you've stated, when I have to replace the system I'll jump up to Vista. And I know I'll go through exactly what you've gone through, thrills, warts and all. I didn't mention it but, like others, finances played a role in my no longer upgrading every time a point-whatever version came along. Before then my friends and family would give me a hard time for grabbing every new version. "You're running the NEW version ... Why?" I dunno, 'cause it's fun? Well..... In another year and ab
  4. Was it an actual "Cease and Desist" letter, or just saying if someone complained they would cut you off. I get one once a year reminding everyone that if a music or movie company traces a IP address to them and complains that they could stop service. I think it's a way to cover their rear-ends.
  5. Try unplugging your modem from the wall outlet for about 5 minutes. then see what happens. That always fixed the problem for me when it acts up.
  6. I dual boot with XP and Vista. But now that I figured out the changes Vista made. I hardly ever boot to XP anymore. I feel more confident with Vista as a good stable system. I never had any problems with any driver issues.
  7. The new Windows Security Center in Windows Vista can be just as annoying as the security centers in previous versions of Windows. We don't need to be an advanced computer user to know that we do not have anti-virus software installed. Surly we don't need the Windows Security Center to remind us of that all the time. Thankfully there is a new easy way to disable the security center messages. 1. Right-Click on the Security Center/Windows Security Alerts logo in the system tray. 2. Choose "Open Security Center" 3. Click on "Change the way Security Center alerts me". (left colum) 4. Se

  14. Data Execution Prevention (DEP) in Vista If you just turned it on and never configured it, it could cause IE7 to close down thinking something isn't right. Here is a small understanding of DEP Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help prevent malicious code from running on a system. DEP is enforced by hardware and by software. The primary benefit of DEP is to help prevent code execution from data pages. Typically, code is not executed from the default heap and the stack. Hardware-enforced DEP detects code th
  15. Finding Vista's Advanced Tools Vista likes to hide and change things. So let's look at Vista's advanced tools. Here you will find some old, plus new features. 16. Quickly Open Network Connections List in Windows Vista One of the biggest mysteries in Windows Vista, is that you can’t immediately open the Network Connections list to see the list of adapters, like you could in XP. In Windows XP, you could right-click any network connection and select “Open Network Connectionsâ€, but now in Windows Vista, the only option you have is to open the Network and Sharing Center using the same right-click menu. If you want to immediately open the connection list, just type ncpa.cpl into the Start menu search box: And up pops the network connection list just lik
