  5. Does the whole screen go black? Have they tries reseating the monitor cable to the PC. Can they try another monitor? Is XP not booting up all the way. Is the screen going blank and the computer still showing signs of life? (is the hard drive light flickering). If the computer is running OK. Then I would look at the monitor connection. But one can never overlook updating drivers.
  6. Mine is quite good. PrairieWave is a new provider and has the first fiber-optic lines in the area. Fiber-optic is run right to my house. It's only four years old and gives me a 1Mbps standard unlimited connection. They also have a dedicated 1.5Mbps, and the "Games Edge" connection you can get, with a 1Mbps upload speed.
  7. Looks like Feb. 27th for Vista SP1 to be fully released. Mark your calender. Remember, if you have the Beta installed. You will have to uninstall it first. And it takes almost as long to uninstall as it does to install it. But, after you uninstall the beta and before you install the full release. Reboot your computer. (this is a definite) You will then have to re-install any Windows Updates that came out after the beta was installed. (Reboot if required). Then run disk cleanup and/or ccleaner. Defrag your hard drive. Shut down System Restore, (to clean it out). Reboot your computer again an
  8. Upon helping a member here at BTs. I discovered you can no longer set the root association in Vista. How I missed something like this with all the playing I have done.... I discovered the Folder Options window in Windows Vista is missing the File Types tab found in earlier versions of Windows. So how do one go about editing file type associations in Windows Vista? I have discovered three way to do this. First Way Open your "Start Menu" and choose "Default Programs" in the right column. Then choose "Associate file types or protocol with a program" Second Way 1. Right-click a file of the type
  9. Can you restore your system back to a time before you made this change? To do this. Type "sys" into the "Start Search" box at the bottom of the "Start Menu" (under "All Programs"). You will see the system restore option in the list under "Programs". If that doesn't work. You may have to do a system repair. First, Boot from your Vista installation CD. Select your Vista Install from the list in “Windows Boot Manager†· Microsoft Vista Setup (x86) · Microsoft Vista Setup (x64) Press enter. You will then see “Windows is Loading Filesâ€. Next, the “Language Screen†will come up. Since y

  13. One of the best ways I know to clean up a system is in the following. System Tune-up: OK, lets start with a basic cleanup of your system. Open up your start menu. Then go to "All Programs", > "Accessories", > "System Tools". And look for "Disk Cleanup" Select your main drive, usually drive C. And click OK. This could take some time, so don't worry. Then put Checks only on "Temporary Internet Files", "Recycle Bin" and "Temporary Files". Click OK. Then YES. Next we need to clean out your browser cache and cookies. Open Internet Explorer. On the top toolbar, choose "Tools", then "Interne

  15. Welcome to BTs.... One way is to use Keywords. Not to many, but about what you site is about. After I figured out keyword combinations it moved half of my pages to googles front page within a week. But google looks for a sites age and page numbers. The older a site and the more pages you have the better.
  16. I have been using Adaware 2007. It's the latest full upgrade. I don't know how long Se is supported. Maybe upgrading to the latest might solve your problem.
  17. Another way is to add a hit counter. I use RiteCounter and it lets you hide the counter on the page. But it gives all sorts of stats on who is hitting.
  18. Whois.net..... mcwilliamshomesllc.com - IP Address More Info. How are they getting harassed? FireFox has add-on that will display the whole page in it's HTML format. But I'm not sure which one it is.
  19. I haven't heard. But you would think since it contains both SP1 and SP2 that they would offer it on disk.
  20. M$ is shooting for February 15th as a release date for the Service Packs. I won't go into the Service Pack details. XP SP3 will like in the past install only what is needed from WU (windows update). So depending on your system configuration, will determine the download size. Also XP3 will no longer re-ask for product activation. As long as XP is activated. The complete XP SP3 Stand Alone Client will have all previous updates included. (SP1, SP2) Which will be great for the shop owners/repair techies. So if you have the original XP (non sp1 or sp2). You will have everything you need on one disk
