Belated birthday wishes to our departed friend. I still have his email addresses in my book, not that they work any more. He was and remains a friend from the old days , a sense of humor that brightened up the boards after a hard day. He lives on on the internet and in our memories and community.

Steps To Switch To Second-hand Computer?
Pete_C replied to JDoors's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Well, I use a KVM switch and connect both to the router when I want to do that. (Although I do have spare keyboards and monitors, I really like using a KVM so I can use my main monitor). Costwise this is fairly effective; especially if you have a reason to use it again. $19.99 belkin for example] http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_...duct_id=0219493 A $12 option http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3525554?s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG If you check around you could probably find a similar deal locally. The next option would be to move the hard drive and install it in either a USB enclosure or as a s -
Sounds like it is an aftermarket replacement which does not include all the circuitry for monitoring etc that the original did. Thus although it is there and working; it does not show up to the software used for battery monitoring. Does it work okay when you unplug from the wall and run off the battery other than indicating that it is on wall current ? If so , you may have to live with this minor inconvenience.

Normally; I get concerned if voltages go more than 10% off from specs. I like to see them within 5% http://www.informit.com/articles/article.a...Num=12&rl=1 Has a good table note that they say a loose tolerance is -10% to + 8% and the tight tolerance is +/- 5 % Offhand, I would say you probably have an overloaded 3.3V rail and should either consider removing something that draws on it or buying apower supply with a bit more oomph. Nice stain job on the wood. Most people would have just painted it or left it unfinished ; I really like the look of wood. Good idea adding those angle brackets for additional stability so the countertop does not sag over time too.

Here they say that this is the EPA mandated pollution solution (10- 15% ethanol) and that it is why gas prices rose in the spring and summer as they converted to this "summer blend" . I also noticed that it give significantly poorer mileage than the unadulterated gas they sell in Central Texas near The Presidents ranch. I get easily 30% better mileage when I fill up down there. I just saw it for $2.39 at a Valero this morning, since Quick Trip is generally cheaper I am wondering what their price is now. Sure will be nice to have the price go down , just wish the mileage would go back up.

Nice tribute to our friend to keep his memory going this way. Very fitting, I think he would be pleased.

And I bet you get that special gas which they sell near the Presidents ranch and not the crap they saddle us with in Dallas. When I filled up down there not only did I notice the cost was 10% lower but I found my milage was about 25-30% better than normal. I just paid $2.53. Maybe we will be lucky and the price will hit $2.00 by election day . I wonder why that would be? Ooohh , sorry we predicted too many hurricanes caused by global warming, they didn't form and it is getting late so probably they will not destroy the gulf coast after all. Ooohh, sorry, BP forgot to say they actually had tw

Ahh if that were all there was to it. Here in Texas they made a big fanfare about property tax reform and school funding. They had multiple special sessions of the legislature and finally hammered out a compromise which lowered property tax rates, but imposed new and higher business and franchise taxes and raised cigarette taxes by $1 a pack ($10 a carton). I am waiting for my big tax break, but read in the local paper (Dallas Morning News) that the average homeowner in the city will see a whopping $85 reduction in their property tax bill which will be over $3000 this year. So a couple who

That's the same logic i use to justify the cost of internet. Well, plus comin to BT of course Oh, anyone thinking about VOIP should also consider a cell phone. A cheap prepaid such as tracfone or CIngular. The internet is by far less dependable that phone lines. Old thread but I think this is a good place to put my experience with Tracfone. I purchased two and set it up to port two cingular numbers over to the new phones. First go round the idiots activated one prior to porting either number. OOPS, have to send you another sim card, but we have successfully ported one number to the other ph

[1] Two glasses of Gatorade would make me barf. Then I might temporarily forget the headache. However if the headache were caused by electrolyte imbalance or dehydration I can see it would work. Did you know Gatorade was developed at Florida State for the football team the Florida Gators, to help them rehydrate after practicing in the Florida heat. [2] Toothpaste is great for many things mainly because of its composition. In this case, powdered silica, microcrystalline cellulose, and mint . Good for filling small nailholes in a wall to.. Ahh,JD you spoiled all the fun [1] I was going to say we use Citronella in our torches and putting them in the oven was a bad idea. [2] I never thought of banana skins as having any oils. I wonder how they can be good for leather. [3] I have heard of putting egg whites in a leaky car radiator, sawdust in a noisey transmission but never heard of putting sand in the hot water heater (or is the hottie the car radiator). [4] Sounds like janitor in a drum; no thanks. I'll use white distilled vinegar to clean mineral deposits from the coffee pot . As for cups? Generally a little clorox will do th

Well, we finally got a cold front coming again so tommorrows high is supposed to be 99. Today was 104 again, several 105 days this month Humidity 27% (dew point 69 degrees) Low last night was 83. Wind gusting to 10 Mph, but it just feels like the blast from a furnace. On blacktop/ parking lots it is easily 20 degrees hotter and the truck feels hot enough to slow cook barbeque at times . So far only 35 days or so over 100 this summer; but that is little consolation. We are in a severe drought and even when it is "cool" it is still hot. Four more weeks of summer, and a couple more to get out

I knew someone who traveled a lot and thought it would be funny to put his dirty underwear on top of his luggage so that if anyone opened or searched it they were confronted with a stinky mess. Unfortunately, customs officers have latex gloves and computers. They added him to a watch list because they figured either he must have something to hide or was prepping for smuggling something. Now he gets the full treatment every time he travels . Bottom line (no pun intended) this dirty trick is more likely to backfire on you and leave you up the creek without the paddle when it comes to smooth

Semantics and wordgames [l=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantics]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantics[/l] Can you cry under water? Cry out or weep tears? I do not see how the environment would affect the emotional response; although the mamalian diving response may affect the physical processes. How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? I always interpreted assasination as a specific type of murder; one specifically targeting a person because of their political or corporate position generally with an agenda against the state ,

The Germans had something similar in WWII but used mirrors instead of LCD video. They also tried curved barrels. In the end it did not prove to be as important as they hoped. After all, most of the time in combat it is not shooting around corners ; you use grenades and artillery for that. The average grunt shoots in front of himself to keep the other guy down; or fires from concealment and cover at the guy charging at him.

Last time something similar happened to me was in 92 when I collected rent at an apartment complex. The last few tenants kept me there until after the banks had closed and most paid cash. I went home to get a night deposit slip and then deposited the cash. I never noticed anyone following me ; but figure someone must have done so and figured I had all that cash at home. At 2Am someone kicked in my front door yelling "Police do not shoot". As I got out of bed to see what was going on I was shot point blank in the chest and then the moron said "Where's the money?" I replied "Idiot, you were s

Which is fine since the product would most likely last three times as long. So, is "AN AMERICAN COMPANY." the brand? After WWII , when there was strong anti Japanese sentiment and "Made in Japan" was considered a synonym for poor quality the Japanese renamed a city Usa City, so they could stamp exports Made In Usa http://www.japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+17278 http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20...lz1j22flag.html That is just for those who want to quote Snopes that this is an urban legend not a real place. It is possible that the manufacturer in China is actually an Ame

Insects shells are hard and cannot grow when the insect does. So periodically during their life, they puff up and shed the hard shell and then their outer skin hardens. Ever seen a white cockroach? This is one that has just shed its shell so it can grow. The shed shell remains an empty husk made of chitin.(Crabs and lobsters do this too, they are just marine insects. I think I read somewhere that a lobsters closest land relative is the cockroach). But insects, land dwellers at least have a fairly small maximum size because of this. When they shed their shell there is nothing to support the

Most cases/ fan combinations are designed for airflow of in at the front and out at the back . The case sides are necessary to proper airflow to ensure proper circulation. That said, if you do choose to remove the panel, it is adviseable that you aim some fans to direct air in there so that you do not get the "Pickup truck bed effect" where you wind up with a vortex of air swirling around inside the enclosure and preventing exchange of air with the outside. Dust is not so much an issue; the air contains the same amount of dust, but the possiblitiy of larger things (dust bunnies, cats, big bug
