Ah it get it. You want a portable application addressbook which you can run from a floppy without installing on a PC so you can carry your addressbook around. I would start here http://portableapps.com/ Easy with a USB flash drive, you can install portable thunderbird and then just export the addressbook from one client on your PC and import it there. http://portableapps.com/apps http://www.portablefreeware.com/ Is another site http://www.portablefreeware.com/?q=address+book&m=Search Open contacts, contact pocket, http://www.fonlow.com/OpenContacts/ Gonna have to check download size. Great Freeware Website! Virus And Spyware Free!
Pete_C replied to option-shift-k's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Now cmon Sultan you cannot fool us oldtimers. None of us would find it believable that there is a site you are not familiar with. -
Also, if you have a gmail or yahoo mail account you may want to check and see if it can import one of the formats which you can export. For example with Gmail Yahoo does the same or similar. It has been a while since I did one of these; but I really liked the results. http://support.batchblue.com/support/article.php?id=061 Of course if you have a hotmail account you just go to the outlook express windows address book and under tools choose synchronize and it uploads and syncs it with the online one.

Internet Explorer 7 Startup Error Message
Pete_C replied to Takitoes's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Now we have a functional solution and generalized explanation of what was the cause of the error. My guess is that the IE icon you saw pinned there was an internet shortcut; if you could have checked its properties there would have been a link to a file ; C:/Windows/NECCUST/OWR/OWR_EN.HTM which showed in your original HJT log R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = file:///C:/Windows/NECCUST/OWR/OWR_EN.HTM R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///C:/Windows/NECCUST/OWR/OWR_EN.HTM Since a google search finds you as the only person -
Internet Explorer 7 Startup Error Message
Pete_C replied to Takitoes's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Ah, no that is not the quick launch. Quick launch is the one you get in the taskbar, by the start button . That would be the commonly used section of the start menu. I do not see offhand why the right click context is disabled there , delete is one of the options . Try right click on the start button and choose explore Then in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\(Your user name here)\Start Menu Select the programs folder. There should be a shortcut icon for IE there Check its properties. Do the same for C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu If your right click menu is still missing -
It has been fairly mild here in Texas; highs in the fifties most days this week, lows in upper thirties or low forties. It was warmer last week, but we had a cold front. Another came through last night so the high today is supposed to be in low forties with low in the twenties tonight and for the next few days. Supposedly it is 31 out there now, I do not believe it. But it is supposed to be back in the upper sixties and low seventies for the weekend. I can deal with that.

That was going to be my next suggestion but I really want to know what it says first so we can figure out what is causing this. I suspect there is an extra addition to the target like a shell extension virus does -

Okay, in the regseeker report the only differences we have is the last section; this will take some more research to clarify. You have I have NOTHING FOR YOU TO DO JUST YET. For [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f4-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}] export they match so this is not the source of the problem. -

Pete_C replied to Takitoes's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
only the internet explorer in the quick launch area when i first click the start menu seems to have the problem. Ahh, now we may be getting somewhere. So , if you go to the IE shortcut on the desktop it launches no problem? But the one in the quick launch does have a problem? I want you to go to the quicklaunch icon for IE and right click and choose properties. On the dialog box which pops up there will be several fields. I want you to copy and paste what you see in the Target box Also what you see in the start in box and comment box. For future reference this is the regsearch for the string -
http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingcatcher The SlingCatcherâ„¢ digital video player brings the digital age to your TV screen. Using the simple on-screen interface and remote control, you can watch video from a Slingbox, from your PC / laptop, or from virtually any video site on the Internet right on your existing TV. I have used the slingplayer, which streams stuff from your cable box, satellite tv tuner , and dvd player over your home network (and the internet) to your computer anywhere in the world. Great stuff.

Yes, change the value back to 1 since changing it to 0 had no effect. Have you manually run live update and then manually done a full system scan with Norton? If not do so. Likewise, if removing the key did not solve the problem use the backup to restore it so that whatever tooltip it happens to enable in whatever program those weird symbols refer to does not loose that ability. By this Locate this entry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved] Right click on the folder "approved" on the left side and choose export. Name it something you will r -

Since they say they finished the malware removal , I will see what I see. Reviewing your log I am not sure they did all the needed removal for trojan ZLOB, (I will look into that and get back) I will look into that later but you also have an outdated version of Java Runtime Environment. C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11 Please go to add/ remove programs in the control panel and uninstall all versions of Java Runtime Environment . When you have them all gone , restart your computer and go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp And get JRE 1.6.0_3 C:/Windows/NECCUST/OWR/OWR_EN.HTM Is thi -
Ahh, my secret is out. Actually at one time I was a die hard, straight ticket Republican. However I have issues with any political party being controlled by any special interest group and having a preset "agenda". The only agenda I think any American political party has any business embracing is 1. To support and defend The Constitution of The United States of America. 2. To attempt to do what is best for the Nation but under no circumstances to intentionally take a path which is not in The Nations best interest. 3. To attempt to do what is best for the Citizens of this nation, and under n

The refresh button is also located to the RIGHT of the address bar: See the DOWN arrow for expanding the addresses in the address bar? Its the button that is 2 GREEN arrows that is to the right of that - if you see the red "X" that is the STOP button Good Luck Marty Brian The bbcode is probably wrong but here goes Customizing IE7 This thread has a lot of good advice so I will copy some over here since this is a new clean one to use http://forums.g4tv.com/messageview.cfm?cat...VAR_MSGDBTABLE= These are not "My" fixes, but are gathered from those supplied by others I want the "menu bar" (wi

I am pretty sure this is the info tip / tool tip clsid (Although it may be one of those systray icons ). It is telling IE to show a tool tip which would have popped up when you open IE, but since you removed the malware which put it there the tooltip is not present but the call for it is. Basically it was added there to take advantage of the fact that windows executes instructions located in shell entries in the registry (amongst other places), so by putting an entry there, the nasty it referenced would autorun with windows thinking it had just run a tooltip balloon. http://www.theeldergeek.c -
Well it has been a week. According to their "Speedmeasure" tool I am at 146% ( a 46% boost in speed ). I have pretty much concluded that it works a lot like prefetch and superfetch, it takes files (programs and data) which you frequently access and caches them on the flash drive to speed loading times. While it does not work at the kernel level like the Vista Readyboost (it works as an NT service) it nonetheless loads early enough in the boot sequence to significantly cut boot time ( I get a cold boot in about 45 seconds and reboot about 30 seconds both about a minute less than without it.)

Well some of them are sinking all their money and everything they can borrow into something because they think it is going to sell; even though no major marketer agrees. Sometimes they succeed (Sandra Lee from FoodTV Simply Homemade started out this way. She came up with some curtain hanger system based on bent coat hangers which she had a metal worker uncle make a batch of and after selling some at the state fair she decided to try to market them. No distributors bought so she did an informercial with Florence Henderson and made a fortune. Same thing with her "simply homemade" cookbook. O

I think that other than the fact that the XP kernel does not support superfetch and that this loads as an NT service rather than as part of the kernel it does pretty much the same thing as Readyboost. So far my impressions are entirely favorable. If it works well on this machine I intend to pay for the full version (so it does not have the four hour limitation) . I will probably try it out on another slower machine or two first just to see if it helps them too.

I long since learned that this is the first thing to do. I also buy additional manuals for vehicles (like the chiltons repair manual) as soon as I can. You never know when some brilliant mind will decide to do things the exact opposite of how they have always been done (don't you just love it when they put in a reverse threaded screw without telling you?) . Besides which it is always good for a laugh when the manual was translated by someone who had no real knowledge of the subject. Like "Make the grabbing foot and stoppping pedal depressed before moving the changer lever into backwards moving

Recently someone (Mike => <Mlegg at G4) wondered if readyboost would be available for XP . Yes I know there are differences between the Vista and XP memory managers and threading etc which make it so you cannot have true superfetch and true readyboost but I did some checking and found eboostr. I have been using the trial version for a few days and am wondering if anyone else here has tried it. It uses a flash drive (actually it handles up to four) up to 4GB (that is 16GB total) as "Cache" to speed up windows bootup (it loads very early on as an NT service) and loading of applications

I agree, but then again, I'm biased... B Hi Jeff; you done good here, thats for sure. Yep they never can seem to keep from messing things up for long over there. Speak of the devil they got back up at 12:15

I have not been able to get through to the G4 forums all morning. Even cached google pages don't load. I guess they are doing something again; but it sure would have been nice if they had posted a notice. Anyone able to get through? I got the main page to load once; but could not get it to reload or go to any sub pages. Friday 11 Jan 2008 been down from 7AM to 1130AM CST as far as I can tell and was probably down before then.

(update) Upgrading Laptop's Hard Drive
Pete_C replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
A little late but I would just like to input that for upgrading a notebook hard drive I have found the Apricorn EZ upgrade kit to be well worth the cost. http://www.apricorn.com/products.php?cat_id=52 http://www.apricorn.com/product_detail.php...reg&id=1023 Basically it is an external enclosure for a notebook drive, along with USB connector and a bootable disk which will allow you to clone the old drive to the new so you can just swap the drives and have more space and not have to perform a clean install , reinstall programs and restore your data.
