  1. Maybe a direct mailer (Like valpak? ) http://www.valpak.com/coupons/home http://www.valpak.com/advertise/pricing.jsp a little refrigerator magnet to stick on the side of your PC case? Or a peel and stick label (just one of those little ones like a return address label). Do they do those mailers in your locale? Hmm, yes, an envelope size ad with a couple peel and stick labels for your computer / laptop etc. might be worth inquiring about Or a peel and stick on the front of the local newspaper? Does yours do that? Ours does. About a 2x3 inch sticker which peels off the paper and can be stuck
  2. Did you try uninstalling it and then downloading it fresh and installing it???
  3. I think it is the system logs section. Just look for an event with a red X at about the same time as this has been happening.
  4. http://forums.g4tv.com/showthread.php?t=159816 Not a facebook user myself so no idea if this works or not.
  5. I think things are moving towards LED. LCD have the problem of the back light going out after a few years. Mercury and fluorescents you know, if they sit too long the mercury vapor settles out and they don't start. If they start and stop to many times the mercury deposits on electrodes and the phosphor compound and they fail So you have to figure that after two or three years you will be replacing a back light at a cost which may be several hundred dollars. Or they go with halogens which are not much better. Plasma may be a bit better , but they put out a lot of heat and eat a lot of powe
  6. A wise move. Here in the city I can always impose on a friend or relative for a day or two if need be (load the chest freezer into the truck and run it over and put it in their garage if need be. I have a neat design to my house, my front porch is concrete and at the perfect level to back a pickup truck up to and lower the tailgate over the steps and just roll thing straight off the porch into the truck, and I have a 36 inch wide front door.). Got some nice rain headed our way today, been a while. But it will probably have some boomers mixed in.
  7. Disable the automatic restart on system failure. That way next time you will get a blue screen of death with a stop error you can copy down for us to look up and you will get an error log http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/automatic-restart-windows-7.htm http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/disable-auto-restart-windows-7.htm Two ways , look to be basically the same as for XP ..... If there is a box to check for "send admin alert" and "Create a log file" check them if they are not checked.
  8. Disconnect all external devices (especially usb drives and cameras) . Just keep the keyboard, mouse, monitor connected. See if that helps.
  9. Hi marsh. Yeah I heard that your storm was equivalent to one of our weak hurricanes (cat I) , not much down here where we get 70MPH gust fronts in spring and fall thunderstorms ; but I be it was a real mess up in the north lands where the trees rarely have to withstand that abuse (of course we get the same kind of damage when we get heavy snow or ice storms). 34 hours, wow that is a while to do without power. When the power goes out I am glad that I have a gas stove with pilot lights and old Dearborn gas heaters which likewise do not need electricity. The city uses pressurized water tanks (an
  10. I found this , which those into art may find interesting http://inkscape.org/ http://speckyboy.com/2009/04/28/35-tutorials-to-create-amazing-vector-graphics-using-inkscape/ It looks very interesting. If I actually had artistic talent I would give it a try. Real nice work mandy, saving as PNG was the right choice in my opinion. You can zoom way in with no distortion.
  11. Double check the clock. Is the time setting valid? You have the correct time zone, correct day and time? Many secure sites will reject you if your settings vary significantly from the IP they receive assuming you are using a proxy. By the way, you are not using a proxy are you?
  12. Some good reading on what resolution you need http://www.photokaboom.com/photography/learn/printing/resolution/1_which_resolution_print_size_viewing_distance.htm Raster graphics are based on arrays of pixels , but vector graphics are designed to be scalable with minimum pixilation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_graphics Instead of dealing with pixels, it deals with geometric primitives (lines, curves, polygons...) which can be scaled and filled. But I am not an artist. Perhaps the easiest technique is for someone with skill to just start from scratch with a higher res image. I think th
  13. Watched but did not turn on speakers. I wonder if they treated those with something or put something inside them to make them more appealing. I just can't see cats getting that interested in gourds otherwise unless they are really bored. .
  14. Have you tried converting to a vector graphic format like PNG and scaling it up? Or print out a copy at the highest definition you have, then scan with the best scanner you have on its highest scan setting (interpolative setting ) and save as a tiff or bmp . Likewise, make a vector graphic version and scale that up if needed.
  15. I agree, TT_75. Marty if the system can not run XP SP3 then find a version of Linux that will run on the unit. I've got an old IBM 300PL 667 MHz unit that happily runs Slackware Linux (the unit had Win 98 on it years ago). What are the specifications for the PC (processor speed, RAM, size of hard drive)? I agree with TT and hitest. Better to go with a Ubuntu install than WinME if the computer will run it. Try from the bootable install cd (Ubuntu live option) and if it works go ahead and do a clean install. This will let them surf the web and do normal tasks but is far less vulnerable to ma
  16. Internet options / advanced / security Make sure "connect using" SSL3 TLS1 are selected and SSL2 is not. Have you tried clearing your temp internet files and cookies for those sites? Read and follow this trouble shooting guide http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290051 Did you just recently upgrade to IE9?
  17. Have you considered one of these? THey sell them at Target, Walgrens, Aldi, Walmart.... You can set it on the floor in front of your chair and pedal away while you are at the desk, computer; or lay it on your bed and pedal while lying down watching TV (a bit more difficult but it can be done) and you can set it on a table or in your lap and use it for upper body (arm) exercise. Go from $25 and up. http://www.target.com/Pedal-Exerciser-%E2%80%93-%E2%80%93802-2008-0099/dp/B000BH9VCU/ref=sc_pd_gwvub_3_title http://www.target.com/15-0125-Stamina-InStride-Folding-Cycle/dp/B0027ZNH2O/ref=sc_pd_gwv

    earthquakes

Didn;t you just have one a month ago? I guess that is the cost of living in the mountains on an island at a plate boundary. They actually had one up north of here in Oklahoma last week, but it was a teeny tiny one in the fours, and most people just thought it was a big truck or low flying plane.
  19. I was getting headaches that wouldn't go away, even with three excedrin migraine and three advil. I knew it was my Blood pressure which was a bit high since it always happened when I was over 150/100. Finally went to the doctor and it was 153/105 and he agreed that it was high and put me on 20Mg Lisionpril which has stabilized it at about 120/80 +/- 5 . Sure has been nice not to have one of those headaches for a couple weeks now. Should have dealt with it sooner. The new dog is forcing me to take her for a 3 mile run every morning, and I have lost 15 lbs in a couple months; not that I was
  20. When you get an error on mup.sys it is not mup.sys that has a problem; rather it is the driver that is scheduled to load right after mup.sys. If you haven't done so you may want to remove the drivers for the network adapter you are using and then reboot so it is redetected and the driver reloaded. It could also be that you have an incorrect driver for it installed. Could be one of the generic drivers got damaged, go to start / run and type sfc /scannow (note space after sfc , and before /scannow) hit enter It may prompt for you windows install cd if it finds a missing or damaged system file

    Picture thread

I should have taken a camera when we went to the State Fair on Tuesday. There were some interesting things I would have liked to have pics of. But every time I take a camera to something like that the OL says she does not want me taking pictures of her since she did not wear makeup or do her hair.... Still would have been nice to have some pics of the horticultural society's greenhouse.
  22. Okay, good troubleshooting there. If it were a problem with the TCP/IP stack it should show in Hijackthis as a 010 or 018 or 017 entry ( a change to the LSP or HTML filters or TCP/IP stack) Nothing in your log indicates that; but if you want to run Winsockfix go ahead http://majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html http://www.home-network-help.com/winsockfix.html Lets see, what version of Eraser do you have? There was an issue with an older version of it. So you may want to uninstall it and install the newest version. Have you checked in task manager / process viewer to see if there is an in
  23. Disable dr watson. If the error that caused it to launch re occurs it will launch again as needed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188296 Apparrently you did not disable it completely or the service would not be running. Go to start / run and type services.msc hit enter locate Sandboxie Service (SbieSvc) Double click it, Click "Stop service" Click the dropdown and change startup behavior to disabled. So that is the legit (safe) version of everything.exe the windows search not the virus. That is good to know. And Growl is acting as a proxy for the android (android notifier) so that should n
  24. Yep, I would rather have a steak than a soda any day. Other than morning coffee all I drink is filtered water for the most part (iced tea when I want to drink vinegar). Speaking of which, Marsh have you discovered the benefits of live mother apple cider vinegar? There is a compound or enzyme released by the mother which slows the digestive enzyme which converts starches into sugar. A teaspoon in a glass of tea (instead of lemon) and a plate of pasta takes several hours to digest. Not quite as slow to digest as beans, but avoids the spike in sugar levels otherwise associated with starch cons
  25. I'll leave it to the besttechie malware team to interpret your log. Just posting this reply because it was requested that I look over your log for you. Did you install this ? C:\Program Files\Everything\Everything.exe They will need to know if it is the search tool that replaces windows search, or the social networking manager, or if it is the virus you get from an email. Wait a minute: You are running proxy software C:\Program Files\Growl for Windows\Growl.exe and wonder why your Internet is slow????? http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/help/proxy.aspx And you are running a beta version of
