Dude, if you're not gonna read the whole question, you're answer has little chance of being correct. Don't bother responding next time unless you're going to read the whole thing and research.

"Any help/ideas/suggestions welcome! Hi, for the record I'm posting this from my notebook. Let's see: I tried updating my desktop computer's BIOS, but it failed to do so, though it gave me a CMOS checksum error on reboot. Then I checked BIOS version with CPU-Z and it was still in old version. So I tried to update again, this time Windows restarted computer, but the computer never passed from blank screen, no BIOS screen, no video bios inf

Yes there are plenty of ways to optimize the boot. First go to the start menu Hit run Type in msconfig Go to the Boot.ini tab Click no GUI boot Download Autoruns Read the description of your startup items uncheck unneeded ones Go to start hit run type services.msc disable unnecessary services (depends on what you run network vs standalone etc.) Some ones that you can disable are the Themes Indexing Service Windows Time Error Reporting Set Automatic updates and Background Intelligent Transfer service to manual. Yeah I understand Matt, I've been on other tech supports site like geekstogo so I know you're not allowed to give advice unless your trained. I pretty much just copied and pasted the stuff you're supposed to do before posting in the HiJack this thread. But yeah I'll make sure I don't post any more advice than that.

If the only thing preventing you from using mozilla is crappy coders, you can just use this addon for firefox and viola, all problems are solved: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 Just right click the tab and switch the rendering engine when you need to.
-
You could also try using mozilla firefox, a more secure and customizable browser than IE8 and IE7. It's also faster.

hmm, have you tried chkdsk /p /r in the repair cmd window? Try this and tell me if it makes any affect.

Maybe if Hamas would stop using hospitals and school buildings as arsenals, there wouldn't be any civilian causalities and the liberal Times would have nothing to gripe about.

If the Repair Option is not Available What should I do? Most important do not ignore the information below! If the option to Repair Install is NOT available and you continue with the install; you will delete your Windows folder and the Documents and Settings folders.
