their is nothing wrong with a dell. With a 2 year warranty, what more can you ask for.

ubuntu-6.06 is a live cd also. That can be used to repartition, or chage the ubunutu partitions to unallocated. Then windows xp can partition and format them for you.

I got a customer who wants me to install anti-malware software on his computer. My first thought was to suggest that he install someting for free like adaware or spybot. I thought maybe it would be better to reccomend he get a better(maybe) paid verison of some program. I got a few questions: 1. is the free version of ewido very good, after the 14 days is it going to pester him to upgrade? 2. are thier any ohter good free programs that do fairly well 3. I was concidering buying multiple licences to install the paid version of ewido, is that one of the better paid programs availble? 4. What is

Nightmare ! System Maintenance
shanenin replied to melodi's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
if its not broke don't fix it :-) Just kidding About the only maintenance I do on my XP box is the occasional defrag. I have adaware installed, but hardly ever run it. I also have avg that is set to get automatic updates(I don't think I ever ran a full system scan). I do have my kids running with limited accounts, that seems to keep things running smooth. -
to add to what hitest said. If you have unallocated spce ubuntu will set it up in that area, that includes making a swap partition. ubunutu seems to be the in distro now. It does have great package managment, it makes installing software easy

gtk-config is probably part of the devlomental package. you only need the developmental package if you are compiling a program that depends on gtk. If you are running gnome, you do have the gtk installed(not the developmentals) this should install you gtk-1.2 developmentals sudo apt-get install libgtk1.2-dev this for gtk -2.0 sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev
-
this command should work gtk-config --version

I am also pretty sure you want(simplest) or need ide. I would check out the warrantys offered. You can typically find harddrives with 3- 5 year warrantys without any problem(in most brands).

you have your gtk runtimes(term?) installed. You probably need to install the gtk developmentals. I am not sure what the exact name of the package is off hand,

I have been wanting to work on a laptop for practice. I have been scanning ebay for a project. I found this one. Hopefully I am able to change the ccfls. While I have the screen apart I will try and test the inverter. If I can get it running, it should have some resale value. I made sure it had a windows xp COA. That will make it much easier to sell. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Just curious, did you try the simple way I mentioned above? Are you able to ping each other using the ping command from the windows command prompt? Is your modem also a router(it must be)?

The following is assumbing you have xp sp2 : 1. do this first to your xp machine make sure your xp computers workgroup is set to "workgroup". It may be set to "mshome". To do this r-click on mycomputer, then choose properties, then goto the computer name tab. If needed you can change it using the button labled "change..." normally I would say turn off xps firewall until you get things working. Since you are behind a hub, and not a router(a hardware firewall), You should leave your xp firewall on. You need to make an exception to allow the xp firewall to allow file sharing(this may already be d

It apears your X server is failing(GUI). So it is still giving you the option to log into your account using a termeinal. this line below is asking for your login name. You probably have two users, root and the user account the install suggests you make. Localhost Login:then below it is asking you to enter the password for that user. note you will not see anything while you type it. After entering it correctly and pressing return you should be logged in.

I got a new lcd tv a few months ago. I am never sure on what is the best way to prolong the life of the ccfls(I think it uses them). If I am not going to be watching it for an hour or two, should I turn it off? Could turning it on and off cause more wear to the bulbs?
