is this s legitamate mbam download?
shanenin replied to shanenin's topic in Spyware/Adware Information
I always get redirected to cnet. It seems really suspicious that only this computer gets directed to betanews. Something seems askew. -
I goto the main mbam site and click download free version. it directs me to the following site to download, hxxp://fileforum.betanews.com/ . is This legitimate or am I being redirected by malware?

IE 7 won't connect to the internet
shanenin replied to CsrLiz344's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
you could try resetting IE to factory defaults http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/06/12/628499.aspx also make sure IE is not using a proxy. Sometimes Spyware will make changes to that setting. If that is the case, you may want to post in the malware removal section. 1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options(you can also get there through the control panel), click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings. 2. Under Proxy server, make sure use a proxy server is unchecked -
This information could be very beneficial to many malware infected users everywhere.

if this is considered information that should not be shared with the public, please send me a PM. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks :-)

What techniques can be used if a malware infected computer is not allowing the user to run .exe or .com files ?
-
you may also have a failing hard disk. That will also cause those symptoms.
-
one other thought. A system running without enough ram will use the hard drive as a ram substitute(swapping). This will cause it to constantly run. Open up the task manager and look at the pf usage. This will show you roughly how much ram your system needs to run without having to swap.
-
are you just copying the files to the external drive manually? if that is the case, you should not be losing an space.
-
what program are you using to backup? I like using sync toy. it will keep a mirror image of everything you tell it to back up. I like the "echo" mode. Your backup will never get larger then the files you are backing up. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=c26efa36-98e0-4ee9-a7c5-98d0592d8c52&displaylang=en

I would love to learn, but would not feel right doing it. Since I do it professionally, I kind of feel like I would be taking advantage of them.

what does the "Find3M Report" report?

I keep in contact with one of my local competitors, they are the biggest computer repair shop in my town of Rochester, MN. He told me they checked in 31 computers with that same bit of malware yesterday. WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS TO SPREAD SO EASILY?

I have never seen in the last 4 years a piece of malware be so widespread in such a short period. I would love to know the vector of the infection. Very sophisticated computer users are getting infected. I do not think they are agreeing to any installations. I am just floored by this.
-
this past three days my shop has been hammered by clients who got infected with "antivirus system pro". I have never seen an infection so prevalent. It seems to be infecting people who are very careful on the web. As of now, I have not been having any luck with successfully removing it. Has anyone else seen alot of this infection lately?

Hp pavillion dv6000 hardrive problem
shanenin replied to slayer1927's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
as TT mentioned. I think the linux partitions may me the issue. You should not have to format it, but you do have to delete all the linux partitions before the xp installer will work properly. It may be the same with Vista also. As to ubuntu not working, that is odd. since none of the discs will run, could your optical drive be bad? edit add later// I do not think it is a driver issue. Both Vista and Ubuntu have good SATA support. -
That is interesting. Hopefully some of the trained malware experts will be able to enlighten you. I am curious myself.

I am pretty certain the same driver package is used for both 32 and 64 bit vista(also xp 32 and 64 bit).
-
glad I had something to share :-) as to the quick launch buttons, did you try the vista 64 drivers? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-64317-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3550122&os=2100〈=en

base system drivers sometime refer to media card readers. You could disconnect them from the motherboard to verify. did you try and use Windows update to get the drivers?
