  1. Thanks, that was the problem :-) Such a simple solution. That will be the first thing I will check next time. I kind of suspected I was using the heading tags improperly, but that is the way the original author did it, so I did my best to make changes with my limited coding abilities. Just curious, why does the method I am using, effect SEO?
  2. I had a website that was made for me a while back. I am trying to update the info. I am doing my best to make changes to the code. It renders fine in all the major browsers except IE. This page in particular does not work, http://brighteyedcomputer.com/test/site/contact . The fond size gets progressively larger as it goes down the page. this is the code for the html doc <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <!-- DW6 --> <head> <!-- Copyrig
  3. I don't see any other way to test stuff without cracking the case. If you are getting no video to monitor, I can't think of a single thing to do without getting inside. edit added later// I thought I read it was impossible to get in(the case). What do you mean, "since the custom box that its in is like IMPOSSIBLE to get it" Do you mean the ram is at a place you can't get at it? Other then reseating/trying new ram, I would try a different PSU. Before calling it a bad board, after ruling out the ram and PSU, I would remove every card and other peripheral device\cable to see if that helps. edit
  4. is the following a correct assumption about detecting a rootkit.. If you did a directory listing of a rootkited Windows system with either a Windows PE cd or a Linux live cd, if you knew what to look for, wouldn't all the root kit files be plainly(not hidden) seen? If that logic holds true. Would the following technique work to find malicious files? For example, do a directory listing of the system32 folder from with in the infected machine. Then do the same directory listing from a Windows PE(or linux) environment. Then compare the two listings. Any files found in the PE environment not in li
  5. whenever a new client comes in we ask where they found us. I would say we get one to two per day(maybe closer to 2), 6 days per week, that come from the yellow pages. At an average job of 75-150, that is about 5000/month in gross sales(not all labor). That is about a 300% return on investment. I think service/repair businesses get better then average returns in the yellow pages. A lot of our clients our in their 50's and 60's and much older. They are hardcore yellow page users.
  6. it those ads brought in 2 jobs each week worth $150, it would cost you nothing. Then if those people come back a second time or give you a referral, you are making money. Yellow pages will be a thing of the past, but if your computer is down, you can't google "computer repair" :-) I googled Kalamazoo MI. you guys seem to have a similar size city as Rochester, MN
  7. thanks :-) We have been dragging our feet on tv or radio ads, they call them, top of mind advertising. You never know if that money will come back. We have been in business about 5 years and the good old fashion yellow pages have been huge for us. For a service industry, it is a great media to advertise in. Every market is different. We are in Rochester, MN. We spend about 1200/month between the two main phone books used in our town. We have 1/2 page in each one. We easily bring that amount in every month with new business plus more. We built our business with the yellow pages, without them,
  8. A vector graphic may be a better choice for a logo. it can be scaled to any size without losing any detail. One disadvantage is you can't get as detailed as you can with a raster graphic. I just recently had mine done in .svg vector format. This format can be manipulated in most editing programs like the gimp. http://www.logodesignworks.com/blog/vector-graphics-and-raster-graphics-difference by the way, how is business going? Bright-eyed Computer is doing well(not yet rich, but it is paying the bills). We are about to start doing some tv adverting. we are excited :-)
  9. you said you have no error logs? you definitely have logs to look at. you want to look in the event viewer, in particular, the system logs this link is for vista, but it should apply to 7 http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Monitoring-Event-Logs-Windows-Vista.html
  10. would a repair install be a solution? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
  11. Can you access secure sites with another browser? Can you access secure sites from another user account? - I would try resetting IE to factory defaults.. - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813444 (these fixes apply to vista, which may work the same with 7) - If you have restore points that go 2 weeks back, I would try system restore. You said you "can't afford" a reload. Do you mean it is impractical with all the stuff you have on it?
  12. A few years ago, I paid a professional to help me design a logo. They gave me these formats: ai, jpeg, pdf, eps and bitmat. I do not own illustrator and I would like to use the gimp. Other then the illustrator format(ai), I don't think I am able to do much manipulation with the formats given to me. I just got a 30 trial of Adobe illustrator. Now that I can open the ai file, I would like to save it in formats that will be most useful to me before my 30 trial runs out. Should I use Illustrator to save the logo as an svg file? Would this file format allow me to have the most flexibility when usi
  13. I want to update our embarrassing outdated website. I guess then main thing we need to start off is a nice header. A few years ago I had a logo professionally done. I was given several formats: ai, jpeg, eps and pdf. here is the old header image I want the new header to just be the logo centered on a 1000 x 250 px light blue background. To superimpose the logo on the blue background, I think I need transparency. From what I remember, jpeg will not work. Will the eps format work for this? edit added later// I just install the gimp on my mac mini. I will just start experimenting.
  14. shutting down and staying down or restarting are two different things. is it doing both of those? Shutting down and staying down, usually means a bad psu or motherboard.
  15. this thread has some good suggestions http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=59473&hl=Winhttpsendrequest
  16. I considered flushing it, they do make flush-able bags. The thought of dragging waste through the house in bags was a deal killer.
  17. dos she have a lot of waste, big dog?
  18. We have three large dogs at home. We currently pick up the poop everyday and place it in a covered bucket which has a bag in it. At the end of the week we pull the bag and put it in our garbage and have it collected. By midweek, the area where the bucket is smells. I have been contemplating installing 2 doggie septic systems, they have many commercial ones that can be purchased. Do any of you use them? do they do any better wit the smell? Any other opinions about them? http://www.amazon.com/Doggie-Dooley-Septic-System-KENNEL/dp/B001B3UDDE/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=128067990
  19. can you access other websites without issue or just hotmail?
  20. I got a laptop in the shop today that would not fireup(no lights or noise). two things come to mind. The computer is not getting power to the board: this could be caused by a bad ac adapter, bad dc jack. Assuming the computer is getting power, then that would probably point to something on the mobo being bad. Here is the cool part, the battery has a dc jack on it. This will allow me to charge the battery directly. Assuming the battery is good, I should be able to charge it for a while then see if the computer will fire up. edit: still does not fireup. I am fairly confident it is a bad board.
  21. I have had great luck with this paid program. it has worked wonders many times. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/
  22. I have noticed some hp printers use a non standard(different then other printers) tcp/ip connection
  23. I pulled out my old python book. I am so rusty, I need to start with the basics, like print, input, variables. I think I l can retrain my brain.
  24. The answer may be in here. I have not done any coding in about 3 years. My brain feels mushy, I am not sure I am up to it. edit added later// it has been 4 years since i have coded anything.
  25. We have been using google docs for at least two years as a way of checking in computers for our repair business. It is a simple system, but works great. We have about 1800 docs on file, they can easily be looked up using the google search feature. This is what a basic doc looks like. We were thinking about using google forms to have clients use one of the lobby computers to enter the information when they check a computer in. The following as a basic example.. After the client sends the infor, it goes to this spread sheet.. Here is where I need some help. I would like to be able to save the i
