yup, i sure am. even following the guide, it is very hard for me to understand wht they wnat me to do. I am at the point of starting postfix. I am trying to use mutt to send an email to root(to test it). I am not even sure if I need to set up a mailbox to recieve here is what I have tried, I am not sure where, if anywhere the mail is getting sent mutt -n root then it promts me to enter a subject, and opens up my default text editer to write a message. I then enter y to send. At this point I am not sure where the mail is going, if anywhere. the mail is getting addressed to [email protected]

speaking of ram requirements. I am just amazed winodows 98 will run with just 16mbs.

sorry can't help it.. IMAP A standard protocol for accessing e-mail from a local server. Also called: Internet Messaging Access Protocol Thats ok, I need to be told to RTFM on occasion :-) local server must be referring to an email server, so yes they need to work together.

does an imap server need to work in conjunction with a mail server?

any suggestion on an imap server to use? I would prefer to run it on linux. I am looking for sonething simple, if that is possible.

Thanks guys, imap seems to be what I need. I am not really sure how it works. Is the following correct. I would download all of my messages from my godaddy account using pop3(I think that is all they offer) to my imap server. Once they are in my imap server I could use any imap capable client to access them.

I just got a call from someone with a gateway computer. He said after shutting it down, it will start up by its self. What kinds of things could cause this? I have not seen this computer, so I do not have any more info to give. Just curious.

I do not have an exchange server. That is why I need a client that runs on both windows and linux, that can use a common database. I am probably just dreaming :-) After some googling, it does not apear thunderbird works with any database(like mysql)

I currently have outlook installed on my laptop. I use this for my business contacts, reminders, and email client. My main reason for using outlook was to learn. I figured it would be good to know the program, since I would be diagnosing and fixing peoples computers that have it installed. Here is my problem. everytime I want to send a business email, or look up a contact, I need to do it from my laptop. This way it keeps all of my emails and contacts in one spot(laptop). i found a place to turn on the screen saver, but this just seemed to have a limited amount of kde screen savers.

Thanks that will come in handy :-) this question led to another. I ended up using konqueror to remove the file. I r-clicked and sent it to my trash. I can not seem to find this file, or am not even sure what directory kde used for trash. edit added later// I do have a .Trash directory, but it is empty. I am still not sure where all of the stuff I moved to my trash went.

This happens to me quite abit when I want to delete a torrent file. Below is an example mainbox shane # ls | grep Invas -{mininova.org}- Invasion.S01E14.HDTV.XviD-LOL.[eztv].torrent I am not sure how to delete this. I am going to give kde an other try(I have not used it for about 1 - 2 years). I noticed gnome automatically started xscreensaver. To start xscreensaver with kde I had to add a script to my ~/.kde/Autostart directory. One feature I really like about kde is "klipper", the clipboard utility. I like it becasue you can save multiple items, and then paste which ever one your like.

I agree kde does not have anything to offer me, that gnome does not have. I just installed kde a couple of days ago, I used it for about 5 minutes, then went back to gnome.

I had an hp computer that came with windows. I am currenty running linux on it. I built a new computer, and just used the key from the hp computer to install windows. I told microsoft what I did and they allowed me to activate it. At the time I thought that was totally ok, but obviouly it was not. I wonder why they activated it for me.

I bought a three pack(xp home) a month or two ago. Am I able to sell the indivdual sealed OSs with a piece of hardware to other people? Can I sell an indivdiual OS with a piece of hardware, then install it for them? My understanding is I am able to sell the whole box of three unopened without hardware. I am confused

I almost posted this link yesterday, but quit midpost. I thought it is rediculous. edit added later// never once have I advocated pirating software, even Windows. After this further restriction, I lost any bit of sympathy(about people stealing it) for them. Now they want you to purchase mulitple licences for the same computer.
