I just cut my chives back to about 4 inches high. the flowers were about gone and the stalks too tough for table use. They will come back quickly nice and tender. I will then cut a bunch, chop them up and freeze enough to last till next spring. Great in scrambled eggs, salads, casseroles, mix with mayo for a zing to your burgers, sprinkle on garlic bread with italian seasonings. Try some soapy water sprayed on the aphids. Works well and biodegradable.

I guess I should make better posts... Re: hardwood... the best of the best is cherry or hickory... for grilling that is. Apple is good too. If I remembered I could go out to the orchards and pick up the fruit tree trimmings... Oak from palets don't quite get it... it's great for an open fire cookout, but not for flavoring on a grill. (*makes note to stop by the custom millwork place for shavings) Hooray for the "sweaty mailman dance" taps toes to the music. Hmmmm, never liked the "match lite" stuff, it has wax in it... So unless you let it burn off (like forever) your're introducing the petro porducts to your food. As I said, most of my outdoor cooking has always been on just plain ole wood fires. I always hated firing up charcoal and waiting and waiting.... Not to mention the mess of ash and grills burning through. I'm loving the "gassy". Lava rocks give you the even heat and flavor of an open fire, heats up faster, and is easier to keep clean. I am now searching for a free source of hardwood chips/sawdust to add even more flavor. ($120 at WalM

Not a leaf down here Blim. I live in the Kalamazoo river valley and most of the storms affect the flatter lands to the south and north. Did get a lot of much needed rain. Too bad you're on city water... I have a well and all it costs is the price of running the pump. But as you know, the plants love rain watering much better then a hosing... Anyone serious about grilling outside? We just got a gas grill and I have some old recipies that need sharing. Most of my grilling has been on an open wood fire these last many years. So I'm off to plop some BBQ chicken on the gassy and see how my skills

(I trust him, and he deserves the hourly rate he gets) The van had the problem when my friendly neighborhood used car dealer first got it. I gave it a test drive and told him I would buy it if he fixed the low idle roughness... He took it the the same shop I use and got the same diagnosis. Was fixed, I drove it for another 10 or so miles and it burped again. He returned it and I took ownership. A week or so late

Actully, I don't let my man anywhere food I'm going to eat. (Although he is good at toast and picking up pizza.) It's my job and I love it, so does he. I clear the table and he tackles the kitchen in return. Works for us.
