  1. Well, it was 55F here yesterday. Yep Janurary in SW Michigan. Forcast: Friday: Showers this morning, becoming a steady rain during the afternoon hours. High 49F. Chance of rain 90%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch. Friday night: Rain and snow showers this evening. A snow shower or two overnight - otherwise, mostly cloudy. Low around 30F. Chance of precip 90%. Liz is correct, that Christmas, down here it was 69F. Also had a summer of 12 out of 14 weekends of rain. I'm not buying the "Global Warming" thing. It's cycles folks. And man and his measuring devices haven't been around long
  2. Chase – “If she’s never kissed a boy, it’s a fair bet she’s never had sex.†House – “Tell that to all the hookers who won’t kiss me on the mouth.â€
  3. well, gee. That seems like a "secure" way of limiting access to the whole building. Even if a "badguy" enters through the classroom door, there is the time element and a chance to alert officals about a "hostile" incursion. Suck it up dear..... "Comes with the job and responsibilty"
  4. That's what I was trying to say, Chappy. It's not the OS, the Browser or the IP....... Bottom end is the user. And some can't/never educate themselves. Many just don't care, many can't get a grip. Like old folks that just surf a bit and e-mail family. Unless their family is savy, we all know that's trouble. Many don't care because they just "reformat" for problems and hopefully saved their stuff. Then there is "youngin's" that get access to a 'puter when mom and pop aren't looking.... *Kinda like getting into the booze during a sleepover.
  5. Don'cha know. When I was a kid, the best toy was a broken one I could take apart and... Errr..... Maybe fix.... *dating myself... I was able to fix several of my toys over and over again, taking them apart untill the dang metal tabs broke off from bending. Yeah, I made my Sweet Brit "Geek" hubby take one apart so I could l00k at the "works".
  6. by Andy Rooney from CBS "60 Minutes" : This is for all you girls 40 years and over.... and for those who are turning 40, and for those who are scared of moving into their 50's...AND 60s.. and for guys who are scared of girls over 40!!!! Andy Rooney says: As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why: A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask, "What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants t
  7. I can't help it.... My fingers have to type the same ol' message: Norton's is malware you pay for. [/rant]
  8. Wilson – “Did you know your phone is dead? Do you ever recharge the batteries?†House – “They recharge? I just keep buying new phones.â€
  9. I disagree. Phishing is a "con" used by "grifters" to obtain money, information, or services. All of that envolves the user. There will always be gullible people out there not paying attention to what is being asked for or thinking it's the "pot o gold" at the end of the rainbow. How many folks here get the infamous "update your ebay account, or it will be cancelled" phishing mail? Or the one from Pay-Pal? Now WE all know better than to give out our passwords and ID's don't we? So education will help, but like all other problems, there's pleanty of "suckers" out there that are uninformed. A
  10. Marty, P3? Look at these mother board options at Tiger Direct I know you're not in the US so prices may be way higher there, but for that kind of money you should be able to get a P4 or a good AMD.
  11. All I know is, we had to try many different bit torrent clients before we found one that would play nice with our modum(cable) and router... We never got the re-boot problem, but our net connection went "Phooey" over and over...
  12. Kewl stuff, bearskin. But what the hell are we gonna look at/for??? What the hell do I know about microscoptic particles? Ok Ok I love all what NASA is doing. It's well spent money in my book. And I'm sure there are some "real" stelar geeks out there that will help the cause. Me? I'm waiting for the results.. Keep us updated!
  13. Mmmmm, and don't I love my well water. Our local city water has 11 different chemicals at the tap... And it stinks of chlorine like a public swimming pool. Jeesch, they get the water from wells..... Just 6 miles east of me, Augusta, MI holds the "best water in Michigan" title. And they have "well protection zones" that dissallow TruGreen and other agri/topical applications. Lovin' that!
  14. Why don't you try a different bit torrent client? Try Azureus... Lots of these clients don't like playing with certain hardware and configurations of ...... How much RAM are you running? It could be as simple as "not enough" RAM.
  15. I love Avast.... Sure don't see many HJT logs for machines running Avast.
  16. Ya know... I've done my taxes on-line with H&R for several years. If I get a "Snail Mail" of that sort, I'm going to a laywer..... JUST HOW STUPID CAN THESE COMPANIES BE?

    Hello All !

Howdy, gmonroe2! Stick around for all the fun.... Arrgh! Watch out for Liz and the pool! *AMUCK AMUCK!*
  19. Pete's right about the focus of a project or hobby. Many of times I completed a heavy duty job when I needed a "anger management" release. You sure can burn off an attitude with a shovel or hammer.
  20. *I'm gonna live forever!* I've been drinking diet Coke for over 30 years... Can't stand the sugared stuff, it leaves a bad after taste for me. And yes, they have done wonders with sugar subsitutes over the years. (don't like the new Coke Zero though)
  21. Jeesch, I must have sleeping sickness. I can drop off any dang time I close my eyes. I start my mornings about 5am, Zziip>>>Zzoooom through the day, mellow out with an adult beverage about 5pm, dinner, some computer or TV..... then nitey nite. If I'm up late, I can grab a nap just before drinky time. For you older folks out there, Melatonin works wonders for adjusting your sleep cycle. Non-habit forming and no morning after effect.
  22. Wow! Geek Pete! Deals abound at your shows. Ours is a sad mess. 20-30 vendors, $4 admission charge. Anything you save... is eaten up be the dang entrance fee. The best deal we ever got going to the show, was across the street from it a guy was stacking monitors on a pallet with "FREE" written on them.. Heh, three of them came home with us.
  23. Leave it to Norton to over charge for an inferior service, then give it away to generate new customers.
  24. Dang, so much for relaxed marrage laws..... "same fish"?
