California Is On Stage 2 Power Emergency!
thesidekickcat replied to DarkestDream's topic in Open Chat
We have been fighting the excessive heat here in the NW too. Our hottest was 104 here in Portland the other day, but several days were 100 or close to it, some days a bit lower but muggy with some light drizzle which didn't really even settle the dust, or verga that evaporated before it hit the ground, then temps back up to mid to high 90's or higher. Last night/today's the first cool down we have had in days!!! I have both bedroom air conditioners off, all ceiling fans off, and the Vornado fan that I was using to pull the cool ac air out of this room, are all turned off now. I used the whole -
Is this just lately, or has it been happening for awhile? The reason I ask is that I read that Myspace, Yahoo too I think, has had recent power problems that caused alot of trouble with their servers. Many parts of the country have power problems due to the the high temperatures around the country. Internet has been slow in many places, websites don't load at all, or only partially etc. So perhaps this is why you are having trouble. Which for you is a good thing because then it wouldn't be your problem. Now if it is your problem, then what version of Windows do you have? Is it updated? What an

Mac, I hope the Dr finds out what's wrong and treats it right. Doesn't really sound like any of the bad allergy attacks I've had though. Strep throat? Mumps? Sinus Infection? Let us know what it is Mac. As you may have guessed, I am praying for you to get well fast. Your girlfriend sounds like a good match for you. Yep, just being yourself is the best thing to do in both the short term and especially long term. Trying to be something you aren't is way to stressful on yourself and the relationship, plus phonyness is a big turnoff for most people. TT, sounds like you really nead to have weekend

The Ten Biggest Security Risks Pc World Aug 06
thesidekickcat replied to thesidekickcat's topic in On The Web
Here is the article I talked about in yesterday's post, that mentioned North Korea now getting into the illegal activity of spoof/phishing/pharming etc. Good article plus fact box for more info. It was in last Sunday's Oregonian, so has a short time left in free archives. Something's Phishy Be careful folks and stay safe! I just read, albeit without understanding alot of it, the Virtual Machine malware article. WoW!!! Scary stuff!!! I am hoping it stays as a proof of concept only, rather than actually being used against us!!! Another link for those who like to keep up on what's new in the bad -
Yes if it hits a line direclty or indirectly (by that I mean if it hits your roof, especially a metal one, travels on inside to lines or outside to metal gutters/windows/vents and down any touching wiring or arcing to it then on to inside wiring and whatever is connected to them, or hits some appliance that is connected and backtracks on wiring. Also consider it could strike a pole and fell it into house with live wires torching house. I have a house on a corner (also it's a wierd corner weather microsystem where it can be raining on one street and sunshine on the other one with rain line usu

The Ten Biggest Security Risks Pc World Aug 06

I think I read something somewhere about Virtual Machines and how it could backfire on us. I didn't know how they work of what they were designed for in first place, and of course the crooks have to get in on and ruin anything they can in order to get control of our machines and the private data one way or another. I wonder if Hell will have a special section just for people who plan, execute, and benefit from such dastardly deeds against us and our computers? Seems like that would be a fitting place for them for eternity!!! I wonder if the Internet will survive the ever increasingly dangerou -
Hi folks, Repeat today of last month's record temperatures. 104 here. More to come tomorrow. Ugg!!! Mac, I hope you are feeling better! Did you break out in hives or have swallowing or breathing problems? Or if it was intestinal upset, perhaps it was food poisoning of some kind, so many things can go wrong with food, and in summer time especially spoilage can be a factor in many cases. If it is a food allergy I hope that you find out what it is quickly before you have the same thing again and it affects you worse! They can be very dangerous!!! It wasn't the shrimp itself was it? When I was a teenager, I had to defend myself from several men and older teenage boys who were determine they were going to break into our house way out in the boonies. Even with our 3 or 4 dogs barking they were still threatening me and telling me what they planned to do to me, and bringing their truck close enough to the house so they could break into the kitchen window, (I had the living room window and door blocked with furniture in the time that the dogs held them off from breaking down the door), but kitchen window was big enough they decided that was next best place to try. I had a cou -
Glad you are back Chappy, and congratulations on the promotion!!! Lots of us on the boards have been, or are now, in various degrees of pain so we can sure empathize with you! Hopefully you will eventually learn to go with the flow of it (yes pain has a flow folks) after awhile, but it does keep you stressed no matter what level or type of pain control or drugs you use, and I know how it affects entire life, especially sleeping, and for me the hardest one is deciding whether to risk doing various activities that may make things worse!!! So yes I can identify with your pain problems. Am so so

Was between 2.85 and 2.95 Monday when we were driving around town. Started tentatively looking fro new car Monday, our little 35mpg Justy scared us this weekend by doing a short time overheating for some reason, so time to start looking for a car again. ugh I hate car shopping and especially pushy salesmen. Grrrr!!!! It has an oil leak from way back, plus a radiator leak too! But because of the design the whole engine has to be removed to fix both problems at a cost of about 3,000 dollars which is way to much for a "totaled" 1990 car with way over a hundred thousand miles on it. Anyhow hubby c

I told you that that stuff was deadly dangerous!!! Sure glad you both are ok!!! That was sure close!!! You just have to watch those storms up close and personal....right? Also remember that wet ground can carry the current to you if you are standing on the ground even at a distance away from where the lightening strike hit...tree, building, or ground, whatever. So be careful during a storm. We may get a chance at thunderstorms too by tomorrow. Suffering through another spell of 100 degree plus days today and over the both weekend days according to some forecasts, cooling down to high 90'

Hi Marty, Thanks for warning folks just in case it was real. But it appears to be a hoax, at least that is what I found out on Snopes Urban Legends (clicked on computers...then virus...then the second one down which is Invitation (aka Olympic Torch) But there were several that are real threats listed on that page... the green dot ones. Snopes Virus Hoaxes and Realities So there are nasties out there to be aware of, but not every email warning is real. I have several other hoax sites to check things out first but don't have time to add them right now. Will come back later and do it if I have a

Be careful Honda Boy, if you see them again try to get license number. And if they seem to be hanging around, or following you, call the cops. Yes if followed by someone, drive them over to the police station, or a fire station!!! "It's a jungle out there" as the Monk theme song says!!! So be careful folks!!! I still remember the scare we had last summer with some guy mad at me, as a passenger with hubby driving in a poor minority section of town, telling me to get out of "his neighborhood" and calling me all sorts of filthy names, while hanging halfway out his truck window looking backwards a -
All I have heard is that the preliminary report could come by end of week, but final one will be months away. Complicating matters is the fact of no "black box" in this plane, as is required for commercial and current military planes, that would help determine what went wrong. Today they are removing the wreckage to take it to a secure hangar for officials to piece together to see if they can find any clues. Finally I was able to bring up the Katu Ch 2 website just a few minutes ago. Have tried repeatedly last night and earlier today but just overloaded servers I guess. So here is the story f
