  1. So this idiot's post made it here I see I am thankful for all the support from you guys who posted there, as well as Tom and the others from Coyote. sevenowl made that post with some self absorbed arrogance and I just told him the truth; he was wrong. I did not want it to be a flame war, though knew it would be when a few other regulars at G4 saw it. BTW~ I made that thread a sticky for a week so a few if my undesirable idiot know it all members can see it. Or I can refer them to it in a PM when I see dumb ass sh**. take care Mike
  2. but chappy you know we don't need no stinkin rules!
  3. even though an older version of HJT you have a lot of infections 1st go into the Control Panel > to Internet Options and clear the cache, delete cookies, temp files, etc then run these: (I always install them and reboot to run them in safe mode) Ewido Security Suite A2 Squared Free Stinger so run these programs and then run HJT and post a log (make sure you run it from it's own folder and also in folder options allow all hidden/system files to be seen)
  4. Check out these sites too, they show a load of store ads with some great deals. Black Friday 2005 Gotta Deal
  5. YAY! I was hating the thought of looking for yet another tech board somewhere out there
  6. How could they not know about the e-diag tools ? WOW, it is on the HP machines right at the start up I would look for exact replacement myself. You can search that part on HP site, and also just do a google search on it too.
  7. Jose, don't delete it , that is my account when I tunnel into your PC. I have a lot of stuff saved there, like my pron collection and all my stolen music files.
  8. I am pretty sure this is a non removable drive, meaning it is permanently mounted and not a hot swapable device. Use the HP e-Diag tools in the laptop to see what the problem actually is. When you start the laptop you see an HP logo, as soon as you see that hit the F10 key to start the diagnostic test. Then hit F2 when you see the next menu to start the e-Diag tools. It asks you what language and simple things next. You have an option of running a basic test, but if you hit F2 again you get an advanced option menu.
  9. You're welcome Actually was easy enough since I have several Word documents loaded with stuff like this (mainly for when I am on the road working so I don't have to waste much time searching when I need to fix something on a PC) Mike
  10. Hey my favorite reporter Do you have a router ? Go read this page > monitortools.com
  11. Hey TT I just was looking for some RAM through my pile o' stuff. I saw at Staples , I think, or one of those big retailers, in Sunday ads had 256 MB of PC133 for like $25 or so. It will help you run a bit faster. I have several older machines at the Chevy dealership w 256 all running OK. I will look to see if I have any spare sticks hanging around and I can send you one , pretty sure the dealership won't miss it. Besides I am the man in charge of all things tech there. Avast av is excellent, you will have good luck with it. I have it on about 30 PCs now.
  12. Marsh you found your way onto the web again ! Thought you was taking a lil break now ? Welcome to here my friend. It is far less idiots than over at G$. Mike
  13. I had the service guys weld me up this cage, and it has a spot to cradle a CRT monitor. I went w/ the CRT just in case .... one car door smacking into an LCD is a $300 mistake. Some of the guys are not the brightest bulbs w/ computers, so trying to make it simple as possible really. Sure they can rip through a car like nobodies business but don't think they care what the hell monitor they get. If I slap a Nascar sticker or something on it they will be happy enough. The thin AC filter sounds good, gonna head back tomorrow and see what to actually do now. again thanks Mike
  14. Pimp my computer rolling cart What a project this has become really. I like the idea of the K&N filters and everything is at my disposal to get it done right. There will be a UPS in it as well, never know what can happen in there with all the power going on. Thanks for all the ideas, I guess my brain s too fried from a long weekend of fun Mike
  15. Hi all, I have a PC that is brand new and I have to put it inside a metal 3' x 3' x 3' rolling cabinet. This is for the serice dept at a Chevy dealership and will roll from car to car when they are getting service. It hooks to the onboard computer under the steering wheel and hooks to a tech scanner to diagnose problems. This is a GM / Chevy thing. So I had them make sure that all sides had vent slots put in so the computer doesn't fry up inside the case (3 sides and a door basically). I want to use some sort of thin breathable material to keep out the dust, dirt, and metal specks that fly ar
  16. any cordless phones in the area ? I had one on my nightstand and it always disconnected my wifi no matter what channel I had the router set to
  17. Do you have WMP 10 ? Version 10.00.00.3646 is most current version. also make sure you have the correct video card drivers, or newest ones it also uses DirectX so make sure that is up to date as well Never saw the video split like that, so this is a shot in the dark at this point
  18. Download Speed: 4272 kbps (534 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 358 kbps (44.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Comcast @ $42.95 a month, for $10 more can get the 8MB package here. Mr Cow, how do you get the PtP from your old university ? They have open wifi there for you to tap ? Isn't that better if you are up higher to get the antenna set good too ? I was curious how I may go about tapping into the university here for this. It is about 7 miles, but is a straight land shot, no hills, just a lot of trees. Or if even possible. I do know several professors there so was gonna try and scam some info fr
  19. That is really cool of them to do The people can use the $ now for relief, and I know that the research is always ongoing in the medical field.

  22. watch out ill, I know where you live... I traced your IP in G$ ! was thinking of pulling the CMOS as a last resort, but since getting late now, it will wait till tomorrow when the hangover goes away
  23. link to original thread in PC support about his winfixer problem Forgot to say in the other thread, but hopefully you read the HJT instructions, you need to make sure to enable all hidden files/folders before you run this. Did you run the Spybot, A2 Squared and Ewido Suite ? Did it pick up anything ? I don't see winfixer in your log, but wait to see what a HJT from this board says. I am one in other places, not on the list here
  24. ugh, maybe I am tired from working too much this week, but I cannot figure this out ~ and will kick myself when I see the answer I rebuilt several PCs this week, now I am on my last case. This is a Win 98 machine on a network and the only purpose of this machine on the network is for guys to read email through Outlook Express and occasionally browse to some Chevy sites for images. I ripped out all the guts on 5 machine totally so I could clean, replace RAM, bad HDs, etc. This machine is a Pentium 3 processor @ 700 Mhz. In one PCI slot is a Promise Technology Ultra 66 V 1.14 card (will take
