how much ram is in your computer? your log is clean, but with the number of programs your running at startup this takes Memory resources. Because of this it could be using the Windows Swap partition due to lack of Ram available. Windows doesn't release the unused Ram very well, so I would recommend using Ramsmart by rubberducky. This is not a free program, but it does have a trial period to use and see if tha makes a difference at all. Otherwise it could be Windows indexing at work, disk defrag does not do any indexing until it is ran, recommended once a month on WinXP.

as for burning a CD-R why not use a CD-RW, that way you can erase the disk if you want to and then burn a different distro on it. I try not to use CD-R's when I am burning anything other then Music. CD-RW's are the way to go if you want to save a few dollars on disks. even when they are finalized you can still erase them and reburn them. on average I lose the use of a disk after 25 different burns, if they are full disk burns. 650 to 700mb each.

If your drive has already been converted to NTFS it cannot be converted back to fat32, that is why you had the problems. NTFS is a permanent setting, the only way to remove that formatting is by replacing the Hard Drive with a completely new, unformatted one. It is normal for a drive that was pre-installed with Windows to already be formatted in NTFS.

write permission was given to the directory, it was trying to lock it as part of the operating system, which has to be loaded at boot time. Now when I shut down DSL, I get an error that xxxxx files media is missing. go figure. I'm looking further into this.

I don't know, I think it is tied to one of the folders for VIA realtek, all I know is when I cleaned that folder out, and only that folder, I lost all sound on my computer. That tells me there is more in that temp folder then we may think. I'm investigating it now.

i did this process on my winxp machine, it removed a file for my sound drivers to work. dunno which one it was, I just did a hard reset and booted from last known config.

You could try logging on as root, then as root right click the file, choose properties, then click on permissions, change the permissions on the file so you can delete it. tried that it didn't work, but I got rid of it, luckily my son wanted to play his games on Windows, so when I rebooted I was able to delete it go figure

actually motherboards designed for AMD CPU's come with a utility that allows you to safely oc them. AMD chips are designed for OC more so then Intel chips are. the utility that comes with the MOBO is designed to keep from frying the chipset, based on ACPI info that the MOBO supplies. The software that the MOBO comes with will reduce the OC if the chip gets too hot. I can currently and safely oc my AMD chip an extra 2.0, I just choose not to because it is fast enough as it is currently set.
