  1. do the following, if you get any error messages about broken packages let me know. sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop after that has run, providing there are no errors, then close the terminal and start synaptic System>Administration>Synaptic package manager. then do a search for gaim. install gaim and gaim_data make sure they are version 1.5 As stated before, Ubuntu runs into Dependency hell with this gaim beta version when installing. Thats why I recommended not installing it. Even in that thread that Naruku pointed out there were a lot of people running into the problem like you jus
  2. everything I learned about Flash was self taught using the net, there are a lot of good resources out there for that.
  3. two things, First, winpfind log is clean. Second, if you are getting the same thing on two different computers as well as two different browsers then there is something else going on, I would recommend trying the following steps: clear browser cache, In IE you do that from tools>internet options in FF you do if from Edit>Preferences>privacy>cache tab. Clear all cookies. same as above try going only to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com do not add the /forums to the end. after logging in, reset your bookmark for it. could be a corrupted bookmark. let me know how you do with this. Ther
  4. ok, I have tried 3 times to install this program. unfortunately when they made the ubuntu Deb package they did it on Dapper Drake, which is the next release due out in June. At this time the Dependency requirements for installation is not readily done on the Breezy Badger version as well as Breaks packages on ubuntu. even when trying to install from actual source files from the Gaim website On the simple one step version available, it uninstalls gaim 1.5 but then you get an update warning that reinstalls Gaim 1.5 and uninstalls the 2.0 beta. Afterwards it then uninstalls the Ubuntu-Desktop whi
  5. I am downloading the file now to test it out on Breezy, if there are any problems i will let you all know.
  6. that was a bad link Nauruku, you had an extra http: in it. here is the correct one. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=152457
  7. before we start, what version of Gaim are you using? start the program then open the buddy list and click on help and about. If it is 1.5.0 then you have the newest stable version out. otherwise we will be installing the 2.0.0 beta version. I forgot to mention, Gaim doesn't have the ability to log in as invisible, however you can put yourself in invisible mode after loggin in.
  8. personally I think the page rankings system is a little skewed. in order to get a good place on the search engines you need to have specific keywords listed in a specific order, plus linkage to other well known sites. just doesn't make sense as to why they use it. but you do what you gotta do to get there.
  9. learning it really isn't the hard part, it's affording the dang software. my bundle alone was almost $1200
  10. hi barb, well your log is clean, however I'm still concerned about that redirect, could you please Download WindPFind Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe. When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.
  11. if you want and are willing to learn a little more about Linux, you can compile and install the latest version of Gaim. it's fairly easy really, but you need certain files to be able to do it
  12. you have a redirect going on there barb, please start a new thread in the malware forum with a hijack this log
  13. replaced screenshot, wonder why it disappeared
  14. just out of curiousity. why do temps always have to be in Celcius? Especially when you figure, at least in the states, we figure temps in Farenheight.
  15. latest. reinstalled Ubuntu after getting a new 200gb hdd for my windows install. Now running Ubuntu on my 40gb hdd that windows was on. Tried Debian, but just like Ubuntu, needed to make a new kernel, then with the way that system was set up, I couldn't install the new kernel without using the same settings as the original one. That didn't help me at all because I was back to not being able to use my mouse. Which was one of the main reasons I wanted to compile my own kernel. edit: that was odd my screenshot disappeared
  16. that helps a lot, i will work on it this up coming week to see what I can come up with.
  17. anytime, our Linux experts here are some of the best around the net. enjoy Ubuntu, and don't be afraid to post questions.
  18. What it appears to have happen is not all the files were installed. run automatix and choose the following entries. aud-dvd codecs media players mplayer and firefox plugin multimedia codecs sun java 1.5 jre let it run the entire installation. about an hour depending on your connection speed. which version of firefox did you install 1.5 or 1.0.7?
  19. give me the basics of what exactly you want it to do, i will see what I can do with it. I'm not going to promis that I can make it exactly like that, especially since I don't know what kind of action script they used, but I will tinker with it to see what I can come up with.
  20. what plugins did you get from Automatix?
  21. i'm sure someone would be willing to edit it to your specs, but as a web designer myself, I know I wouldn't mess with it unless I got the file and permission from the web designer.
  22. hey Jdoors, anything that you want to remove from startup can be done easily from Hijack This. Just put a check next to the ones that you are comfortable with removing. also something that didnt' catch my eye yesterday but did today is this entry. R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - ~CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file) this is the shopnav spyware, which it appears might have been installed along with earthlinks software. I will have to do a little more research on that one but this version is a internet optimizer.
  23. unless you have Macromedia Flash 8 and know the actionscript that it takes to make that work like that it will be next to impossible. A lot of flash files like that are copywritten, and need the creators permission to use. Thats the biggest plus with flash from a web designers view, no one can steal the code. I would recommend contacting the webdesigner that made that page and ask for the FLA file that it was made from. if they give it to you then all you need is flash 8 to change it. if they don't then you need to come up with a different idea.
