I found with the install of ff 1.5 on Ubuntu, I had to have java reinstalled. I used automatix, without selecting Java install because I already had it installed, but it reinstalled it after installing ff. It also waited to update OOo2 until after the ff install. so I'm thinking that the linking needs to be redone by a reinstall.

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use) Click Here. Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page. It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows. These next two steps are optional, but

just so you know, W2K will run just as fast as a linux distro on that machine. for best optimal performance of W2k it is recommended that you have 256-512 mb of ram. Even though there min system requirements say 64mb of ram for it, as with anything, the more ram the better. I personally wouldn't run it with less then 256mb. but then again I like my system to work like they advertise.

Getting Rid Of The "no Connection To Internet" Box
Dragon replied to baker7's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I don't use ff only for the tabbed browsing, I use it for other reasons that IE doesn't have. Such as more control over the passwords, and more control over the cookies, I can remove just one or all. in IE you can only remove them all if I recall correctly. also with ff you can change how it looks. last I knew you can't do that with IE unless you have windowblinds or something similar. -
min requirements for Ubuntu is also 128mb of ram. so you fall in line for that distro also. there will always be someone that says one windows manager is better then the other. IMHO use your own judgement. what you may like they may not, just like what they like you may not. the only person that has to decide what windows manager is best for you is you. but you won't know until you give it a try. personally I prefer Gnome of KDE. I haven't used the other windows mangers to judge them, nor do I really have an inclination to try it.

in order to get those you will first need to show hidden files/folders. to do that click on My computer then click on tools choose folder options. clik on teh view tab and look for show hidden files/folders and mark the radio button next to it. now you need to navigate to C:\Windows\Inf hope thats what you're looking for.

Getting Rid Of The "no Connection To Internet" Box
Dragon replied to baker7's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
you mean the link that tells how FF has more flaws that have been patched compare to IE. That information is not as accurate as most people think. the only flaws that are found, are the ones that have been reported and fixed. unfortunately people have a tendancy to think that just because more flaws were fixed means that it is more insecure. thats not true. it's not the number of flaws as much as how many of the found ones have been fixed and in what amount of time they were fixed. Below you will find the pie charts detailing the differences between IE and FF. they are pretty much self explan -
do you think you can give us the lspci list now, I'm sure you would still like to know what graphics card you are using. or has the hotplug issue been solved also?

I recieved your PM, so here is the fix so that everyone who might run into this can fix it. it has been discovered that this is related to the numlockXX command for laptops. here is how to do it: first from terminal do: sudo apt-get remove numlockx now do the following: Go to /etc/X11/gdm/Init/ as root (use the "open as root nautilus" script which comes with automatix) and delete the file called "Default". Now look for a file which looks like: Default_backup200512010316 (the numbers at the end is the date and time when u ran automatix to install numlockx, it will be different for u). Rename t

Automatix has no programming in it that would affect the function lock. I'm wondering though, did you by chance have it set up the numlock to kick in at startup like windows does on desktops?? a slow research in the ubuntu forums has pointed to this possibily being the culprit to the function lock issue. Let me know and we will see what we can do for ya.

info on the svchost.exe entries you were wondering about. so it is normal to have more then one svchost entry running. so no concerns there. Congratulations! Have The Product Key But No Disc.
Dragon replied to Honda_Boy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
no there isn't. The key is coded into the individual disk programming. so it won't activate if you use a id code from a different disk. -
type the following in a terminal wget http://beerorkid.com/automatix/automatix-ubuntu_4.4-2_i386.deb after it has downloaded it type this next sudo dpkg -i automatix-ubuntu_4.4-2_i386.deb there ya go you just installed it. then go to applications>system tools>automatix then run check what you want to run

ok frank, I the other topic you posted about Automatix, I answered you on where to get the tool. If you can download that, and run it, it will save you some time trying to troubleshoot this problem as it will do it all for you. all you have to do is run it. once you install it, click on Applications>system Tools> automatix. then put a check next to the items you want installed. if you still need to install wine, it will do it for you however, after it runs you will have to type the following in terminal winecfg this will help you configure wine to work. Hope this helps

well it all depends on what you are looking for when it comes to what the distro can do. one of the most easily set up ones besides Suse right now is Ubuntu. you can also have different versions of X running, xfce, gnome, kde, fluxbox, etc...
-
in terminal type the following: lspci Then copy and paste that in the next post here. we'll figure out what card you have.
-
hi frank, I posted the link to it in your other subject, that is not carried by ubuntu servers. http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6802 check post #5 by me there

ok, here is my latest one, 2 days working on this just to get it right.
-
is this on the 64 bit machine?? if it is it could be caused by the same hardware incompatability that you are running into with the Radeon card you have. For some reason I'm having a hard time getting into the Ubuntu forums, I know I have seen solutions there for this problem. as soon as I can get in I will post a link to the topic for you, unless someone else can get in before me and post it.

ok thats the standard terminal. Which is the one you were supposed to use. I found what happened. type the following in Terminal so you can select which version of Java to use. if the Sun java you installed isn't listed then you missed a step in the prior directions and will have to start over from the beginning. sudo update-alternatives --config java

That one is great!! Good Job! yeah, too bad it's nowhere near as good as yours or rv56's stuff, but I'm messing with it to learn more stuff I can do, plus I just added the gradients, Patterns, and other items from psp7 to the list of things it can access.
