i think we are all novice at some points. its quite hard to remember all the troubleshoots that we have learned. i remembe i had to go through a before finding out a simple task to troubleshoot. i have time to login at least four times a week. not much on helping but trying to see if there are new things to learn see yah around,buddy!

we had the same problem,dnoppix... before mine went totally down! i got the problem for a few months they just a month ago,my floppy drive stopped working for good. i have yet to buy a new one so im not sure if it was the drive itself that was busted. anyway,check your BIOS as mentioned and try to clean. unless you havent opened or moved your case i dont think you need to check the connections.otherwise,open it and be sure you IDE is secure and properly connected.

could you post some detail about it? this is something nice to learn. i havent had any chance to trouble shoot TCP/IP

i love keyboard shortcuts! when people are asking me how to get somewhere in windows they were asking what and where to click... but then i give them the keyboard shortcut,i found them with jaws dropped. they will often ask me again what to click,thinking i was giving a different answer to a different question.especially the WINDOWS + pause break which brings out system properties and CTRL +ESC for the start menu .

WD-40 worked for me. but i let a few days passed before i installed the fan back.

well,if i may add something on this MSCONFIG thing. using it isnt bad per se. however there are alternatives,not necessarily better though. my tip is to look what programs are these. then open the program and try to find its tools/options. probably there you can find something that says "launch during startup". you can ucheck that so that the program wont load durin startup.

well,for the *th time i'l be asking for some suggestions regarding free webhosting. my friends and i were talking about starting a Yahoo Group. i just want to know if there is another free hosting like Yahoo Group. i there are a lot on the web,but im hoping to hear something that you guys have personally tried out. i know blogspot could probably do it since ive tried. but im looking for something where we can do a little file-sharing, upload lots of photos and then having to share ideas as well like a blog. anyone?thanks a lot!

as i suspected it was a RAM problem. i got it fixed now. one of my 128MB stick was busted. i got a new question though... what are those things that cause a RAM to be damaged? also,i got two slots for RAM,if i am to use just a single stick,should it be positioned at a specific slot (like if there is a number 1 slot)? i had to do a trial and error on both sticks to figure out which one is busted.then i had to do a trial and error on which slot they should be. thanks!

thanks,crow! i dont think security will be an issue with wireless system. i mean wireless tech isnt that popular here. i got XP on both.i dont have the CD with the laptop since someone only gave me this laptop and a CD wasnt included. anyway,i'll try and assess my budget and see what i will come up with. but most probably i will opt for the LAN. thanks again!

hey,guys! let me be the one to post the first problem here (officially, chappy's thread wasnt his problem ) i'll be setting up my first network. well,i simply want to share my printer and internet connection between my laptop and desktop. currently,im just thinking of adding a LAN to my desktop so i can use LAN as my basic setup.but i sometime want to work outside my room. with that in mind,wireless seems to be a tempting setup to have. but the only advantage i can see with going wireless is that i can access the net wherever in the house.and the big downside to it is the price of routers. if
