sorry for the lack of input guys. i want to connect them both directly without any hubs/routers. i got ethernet cable connecting them. as far as sharing is concerned, i have enabled it on both PCs. is there any infos i missed to share? thanks for the time guys!

hi there marty! well,i dont seem to find anyone who has an idea regarding your bootup screen. anyhow,with regards to browser,i still find myself using opera and IE. i dont like k-meleon and avant.mozilla is good as well.since i dont spend too much time on the net.and speed and convinience isnt that much of an issue to me right now,IE often suits me. take care friend! btw,i'll post back as soon as i get some answers for you bootup.

im not sure if the webpage thing is more on filea association. the second one i had the chance to encounter but not with photos instead with word documents.i think it isnt a problem.probably with the way norton handle the files.i will look into it though.if i still had norton on my machine i can give it a try.

i would suggest what BurtStark said. and installing the OS without any hardwares attached as well,such as soundcards etc. also, i thought Mobos come with their own CD with drivers on it.if you have keep it within reach when you reinstall the HD,

i used regcleaner before. only for a few months,but never had trouble with it. that was way back to my "download-anything-interesting" days i never needed it afterwards.

ah yeah...youve just reinstalled xp i forgot. anyway,i havnt used avg so i have no comparison between the two. i was stuck with norton for 3 years.

there sure is a damaged file in your system. but i havent used win98 for a long time,im not sure i it can repair itself like winxp. try online scans for viruses.there are a lot of sites

ive been doing some searching. but i cant find any probable solution to your problem, especially that it happens to all your programs. i assume you did virus scans as well...? i'll keep searching and post anything that i can come up with. right now,lets hope the regulars got a better idea

yes i noticed that too... when im simply working on some papers without risk of being infected i switch it off and i can see the big difference in performance. and with a busted stick of RAM,i really know the difference. but then i like it for a FREE version. updates itself automatically and frequently.
