I'm looking for a function that can do the following: $i = abc123bc The function would then search $i, and for every instance that bc occurs, (without a preceding it!) it then changes that bc to abc. So: $i = abc123bc MagicFunction($i); echo $i; Outbut: abc123abc Thanks!

I've listened to dragonforce a few times. They're really good, but I've never gotten big into them. Their purevolume page (http://www.purevolume.com/dragonforce) has some songs you can download.

I do intend to duel-boot it with some form of linux. The only reason I think that I may need a high(er)-end computer (and laptops only get so high-end) is because I plan on majoring in Computer Science or a similar field. I haven't done much research on this, but I'm guessing schools will probably have preferred apps and most likely Windows, yes? Matt

So I got a call from my father today. We were talking as usual, and then all of the sudden he throws in something I wasn't expecting. "Would you like me to get you a laptop for Christmas?" As you can imagine I was a bit surprised. Anyway, both my parents have already told me that once I get ready to go to college, they were going to get me one. Well, right now I'm a junior in high school, so I guess that's not too far off My question is, is now a good time to buy a laptop that should last me all through college, or should I wait about another year? With Vista so close, and the fact

My favorite thing about BT is the fact that we actually have a family type member base. By that, I'm almost thanking the fact that we are small. Much larger forums basically work like this: The Staff are the members, and everyone else who registers is a one-timer looking for tech support. I'm certainly glad we aren't like that. While we continue to grow, we are getting more members who just have a couple posts (or none at all) and never return. However, we aren't losing anyone in the process. When here, I still have the feeling that I "know" everyone, and I hope we stay like that, no

Hey guys, gals, and everyone else! I know a lot of you don't creep into all the corners of the forums, so I thought I'd post about this here. Jeff has just set up something really cool, called BT Blogs. Basically, its a free blogging service, hosted and operated by none other than the best tech forums around! So if you're interested (as you all should be!) check out the info here! And I'll be seeing you in on the blogs! Matt

I'm just going to close this. Besides it being in a completely wrong section of the forums, I doubt this post was for anything productive. Matt

Yes. As I stated, these were just speculations floating around a while ago, and nothing was realy settled on the matter. Most of them spawned when Microsoft began speeking of acquiring the advertising company Claria. During that time period, it was noted that Claria adware had been signifcantly lowered on MSAS's threat list. In the end, things worked out fine, and Windows Defender seems to detect most things as any reputable AS tool would. However, this event caused a lot of unrest in the anti-malware and consumer communities. Windows Defender is still a highly rated tool, and no sign of

Windows Defender definately isnt bad to have on your computer; it certainly isnt a rouge program. However, many poeple question the business ethics of microsoft, supposing that at a price, malware can pay their way out of the detection rules. This has never really been 100% confirmed or denied. Others just think its detection isn't as good as other available programs. If you find you're having success, theres no harm in keeping it.

Note: System restore will only infect you if you restore back to a point when you computer was infected. If your computer is/was clean, it won't just "bring malware upon ou". Matt
