  1. I'll break it down so that others may also understand.. I have read post and answers from you before and I know that you know what you are doing.. you need a license for each product.. this would apply to your question.. you have a license for windows for two computers but you only have works for one.. so you can only use it on one computer in reallity its simple... there is no longer in any MS license the right to install on more than one system for any software... it used to be in the old days that if you had MS offic, you could install it at home and at work as long as you could nto use
  2. no, they run Red Hat AS 3, does it matter? depends on bandwidth needed.. I pay $125 a year (including the 8 dollor DNS regestration you add email address, email is already setup using qmail
  3. sorry its what I do for a living so.. I woudl suggest just tring some thing like Doteasy or another host.. I use Doteasy for my linux site.. it run on Red Hat and they give me my own Jail so I don't have to worry..
  4. to add.. people keep asking software or hardware firewall... well let me be the first to say (today) that there is no such thing as a hardware firewall.. There are programable chips that are firewalls but they are still a program.. so to help Monowall, Shorewall, Devils Linux are examples of firewall unix distrobutions (BSD and Linux) that use Iptables.. some also use JAILS, others remove the console. but in any case they are firewalls. iptables is a Kernel level function and can act aat the lowest levels of the OS.. people argue about software firewalls VS hardware because they A. do not
  5. sorry If we are misunderstanding... but yes it will, I use it and have had zero problems.. dollardns.net could potentaly be spoofed but that would mean some one is gunnnig for you.. and if they are doing that standard DNS is just as easy to spoof.. so I don't wory about that.. check you site logs everyday make sure your site comes up every day.. you should be good ot go..
  6. what are you talking about?? its DNS.. secure from what.. its translates names to IP and your system updates it with each new ip it gets.. most routers will do this for your or your firewall.. if you do not understand simple TCP/IP then setting up a webserver adn Email server is not something you should do, as it will be insecure as you have no Ideal how to lock it down.
  7. Could you please let me know which one of these : http://download.atrpms.net/mirrors/scienti...4/RPM-GPG-KEYs/ Do we want me to try install it from command line not GUI,,,because I had done through GUI before ? for keys I would run the the updater in mandervia, I don't have, and have not run it since Mandrake 8. The error you are getting is from one of two things in a RPM system.. one the package is bad or teh key you have is wrong. .you can import all of the key's you listed (the system can hold a few keys) you tried installing gcc from the CDroms from the GUI and you recived this error?
  8. hmm your cell is GSM yes (or sprint, PCS AKA sprint screwed up GSM standard) ... in any case a cell phone tranmits and recives information from the local cell tower.. its your speakers that SUCK if they recive this signal and bost it.
  9. the drive will need to be compiled.. drivers are loaded with the modprobe command.. Linux "drivers" will end in .ko there is a read me with the "driver" that should explain this. my driver files are located in /lib/modules/2.6.8.1/kernel this is a little old but may help http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Module-HOWTO/index.html here is a site on hte drive and its status..It looks like it is been added to the kernel, this would be good. http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourri...11b.html#Ralink
  10. first make sure you have the correct gpg keys Download the RPM-GPG-KEYS file from mandrake update Run $ gpg ––import RPM-GPG-KEYS also try the Gcc on the cdroms.. there should be a rpm called gcc, use the rpm -ivh command to install it from the cd.. this would be my first stab at the problem
  11. see http://www.oth.net/dyndns.html you need a dynamic DNS serverice..
  12. yes a email is a lot of work, even MS excahnge has as many steps , while its with a gui, a step is a step.. all you need to do is hilight the code and use the middle button to past it into a command line.. no need to type
  13. use the command lokkit on red hat will allow you to configure the firewall with no additional software.
  14. since you are running centOS, Here is a how-to fro qmail.. teh person created a script for centOS that you download (the wget command) and untar. then run.. it will set the basics up for you. from the site.. Step 1: Download Install Scripts and run them. Current Version of these Scripts are 2.9- June 13th 2004 Log in as Root and navigate to /root cd /root Download the latest Install Scripts wget http://www.askdavis.com/qmailtoaster/toasterscripts-current.tgz Untar the compressed file tar zxvf toasterscripts-current.tgz The files should be expanded into folder called toas
  15. for the printer you may have to install stuff (I use puppy as a server, so never tried printing.. I also work in a UNIX enviroment so I have printers shared with CUPS and LP, so no need to make anything work, as they automaticly show up as a printer on all other unix boxes..) keyboard quirk could be an old slow machine tyied with a Live CD (seee 10 X slower then installed on slow cdrom drives)
  16. see if this site helps http://www.pccitizen.com/driveimage.htm here is a note on ntfs from partimage. The NTFS (Windows NT File System) is currently not fully supported: this means you will be able to save an NTFS partition if system files are not very fragmented, and if system files are not compressed. In this case, you will be able to save the partition into an image file, and you will be able to restore it after. If there is a problem when saving, an error message will be shown and you won't be able to continue. If you have successfully saved an NTFS NTFS partition, you shouldn't have probl
  17. I'm not sure, I've never run an e-mail server so I've never asked. Different ISPs have different rules. Some ISPs block port 80 and won't let you run an Apache web server. Your best bet is to contact your company directly and find out for yourself. which linux distro are you running.. I personally like open Xchange http://mirror.open-xchange.org/ox/EN/community/ its not simple to install, but it's great experiance..

  19. this should help for clamav and anyine setting up a secure email server with fedora core 4 I also run KLAMAV (KDE front end to clamav) so it looks a little like norton..
  20. see http://www.f-prot.com/support/unix/unix_ma...-prot.so.8.html this is how I would do it.. go to http://www.f-prot.com/download/trial_forms/linux-ws-rpm.html then from a shell su - rpm -ivh fprot*.rmp done are you shareing files with windows users? are you hosting a fileshare or email server.. if not you don't need a virus scanner.. there are 14 viruses at last count for linux and all require you to compile and install as root.. if you are having problems installing a tar ball them a virus will really be hard to install.. just a thought
  21. nokia 770 (bigger screen and more functions then a PSP) with WiFI and Bluetooth you don't need lots of storage.. http://nokia770.com/
  22. according to this artical http://www.anandtech.com/news/shownews.aspx?i=25431 you can get them cheep in Japan, Where no one seams to whant them..
  23. good catch naraku9333, I missed that possability all together.
  24. I agree, I guess my point is.. the only way a EXE could effect the Linux system is if, A) the user was part of th e ADMIN group (the first user or any restricted user on XP) the EXE wrote information to the harddrive in what it thought was blank (as windows can not read Linux partitions and shows them as blank) C) the EXE was designed to look for Linux partition (83 in the file table header) and insert or remove something from it.. most unlikely as this is also a soalris swap partition so it would not be as effective I think UBUNTU messed something up on a upgrade, I have found the easie
  25. very valid points, but I would liek to rebut with things I have observed.. Novell ,IBM, Red Hat sell support. you can get the ability to paly most media (MP3's) out of the box with the pro versions, and VLC will play DVD's and mp3's with no other software.. next.. TCO.. I have already added this up before and proved this to be incorrect, unless approched in a Microsoft way as I call it. First Example With Microsoft you are required to by a compy of Windows Server for each and every sever you run. With 2003 server you are also required to buy CALs for each device or/and users connecting. it
