Hey Everyone, Just wanted to share with everyone since I just realized this as of yesterday afternoon, BestTechie.net is officially 6 years old as of today. The domain was registered on May 7th, 2003. For more information or to just say happy birthday check out the blog post below: http://www.besttechie.net/2009/05/07/bestt...ns-6-years-old/ B

Set what? The typical rule of thumb is to set your virtual memory twice that of your physical RAM amount. I'm not sure what good setting "." would do. Feel free to explain yourself. B

13.3" LCD, integrated graphics, (2) USB 2.0 and (1) Firewire ports, mini-dvi port, superdrive. Let me know if/when you're interested. B

Just found this enabled in my account, it's pretty neat. Check out more details here (I'm also giving away invites until I run out): http://www.besttechie.net/2009/04/25/youtu...-functionality/ B

We don't fully support those skins (or update them either for that matter) - the only one I focus on and use is the BestTechie skin. I've only kept the Techno one available for bozodog. B

Nope, it's not broken at all. It's Mandy's site actually. What did you click that had a broken link? I just logged out/logged back in and it was fine. B

Update: We have removed all PM's sent by the offending user as well as banning them. This means you may still get a notification about the message, however, will not see it when you login. Additional measures will be implemented in the coming days. Stay tuned. Again, I'd like to apologize for any inconvenience. If you still are getting PM's please let me or another admin/mod know ASAP. It appears we have been hit again with the PM spammers. I will be taking appropriate measures to fix the security issues at hand here. I'm deeply sorry to anyone who was affected by this incident. We were able to get it under control last time before anything happened. That being said, I will be implementing precautionary measures to help protect our users in the future. Additionally, I will make sure that these PM's are cleaned up (removed) accordingly. Sorry for any inconvenience. B

Mandy is looking to sell two of her laptops. The specs and pricing is below: MacBook w/ 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB Ram, 120GB HD - $650 + Shipping Gateway w/ 2.00 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB Ram, 160GB HD - $600 + Shipping The MacBook is only slightly used, it's basically brand new. The Gateway has had more use, but is in very good condition. I will post pictures upon request. Preferred payment method would be a check. If you're interested (or have any questions) in one or both of them let me know. B

That's priceless! B

Yep! Are you experiencing any problems? B

JDoors, I completely agree with you. My statement on age was more or less tongue and cheek, but, nonetheless, coming from a family where both my parents are lawyers (my mom was a corporate lawyer and my dad is an IP lawyer - which deals with copyrights/trademarks/patents) I fully understand the complexity of this situation. The problem I was pointing out was that the current systems / detection methods are flawed and that serious works needs to go into developing them further to better them. As for being a content owner and creator myself, I definitely see and understand the idea of prot

Wrote this article for my Law class and decided to publish it on my blog like I do most of my other papers. http://www.besttechie.net/2009/03/24/youtu...-exist-youtube/ What do you guys think? Can fair use exist on YouTube or even the Internet? I think it can, it's just going to take a while for these major corporations to realize the revolution around them. That revelation will most likely occur when smart people from my generation enter the work force. PS: Nothing against any older people out there. B

Not surprised at all actually. B

Just posted a blog post on the topic: http://www.besttechie.net/2009/03/20/att-w...thout-contract/ B
-
Seems like a waste of money to me... The exclusive AT&T contract isn't up for a couple more years anyway (if I recall correctly) so it's basically just a get money quick scheme. As noted unless you jailbreak it / unlock it you can't use it on another carrier which most people who purchase the device won't be doing anyway. Why pay more for a phone than you have to just not to have a 2 year contract? Seriously. B

I'm moving this to PC Support so it will get some more attention. B

This is just insane: http://linuxlock.blogspot.com/2009/03/temp...reeps-into.html Ken is doing a good thing (I believe) for a lot of people. Seriously though, even if Ken wasn't around to do what he's doing, these guys still may be out of jobs (if this recession keeps going on) as more and more netbooks with linux based operating systems are purchased. Ubuntu (and a couple of other distros) are definitely ready for everyday usage - web, email, IM, etc. If anything hurts Linux distros (and I know Matt agrees) it's the software available to it - not the actual system itself. You know I already voted! B

That was most likely your DNS servers - it can potentially take up to 48 hours to propagate everywhere. That's why I use (and love) OpenDNS - you can refresh the cache yourself. B
