  1. It’s extremely important to me that I’m up-front with you about how we conduct business here at BestTechie. As I talked about in this post, it’s clear that the current state of display ads on the internet is just flat out terrible. They can intrusive, annoying, and frankly, dangerous. That’s why I made the switch away from traditional banner advertising and towards a [much] more friendly alternative with Carbon Ads. This site has been around for many years, longer than most other sites you read on the web today. In fact, I started it way back in 2003 and have loved every second of running
  2. I'm very sad to report that I just found out we lost one of our own back in July. TheTerrorist_75 passed away on July 6, 2015. 3. I'm reviving this thread! Here's one I took the other day in preparation for Stars Wars!
  4. Thanks Chuck! I had to upgrade to the latest version of Invision Power Board so we could update the server to PHP 7 (the old version we were running doesn't support PHP 7). This is actually a pretty stock layout, I just customized some colors and added the BT logo. Glad you like it though! B
  5. It is always an exciting time when starting a new business but it can also be a frightening time as well. Unless your company is able to see a profit within a relatively short period of time, you might never really get off the ground. Since most startups find it necessary to compete with established businesses within their markets, they need to find a way to gain exposure so that they are in a healthy position to go up against better known companies. Here are the top 5 strategies to gain exposure as a startup. These are not listed in any particular order but each falls nicely within the top fi
  6. Late last month when I published my first article about my trip to Israel, I mentioned how the startup community in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is very strong and how the people in it are constantly looking to improve it. Of course, finding ways to bring in not only more talent, but diverse talent is a prime example of an improvement that’s being worked on. But there are other ways that the startup nation works to continue to improve. One of those ways is by collaboration. Every one I spoke to in Israel (at least in the tech scene) appeared to have a feeling of unity. In my observations, people in
  7. The fine folks over at SpecOut recently set out to create the ultimate tech gift guide for 2015, with product selections from more than a dozen categories. The gadgets, gizmos and geek-approved devices on this list range from inexpensive ($35) to pricey ($3,000), but they all represent the top tier of their respective markets. But wait a minute: who is SpecOut to say these are the best gifts? The SpecOut team’s credentials: SpecOut collects and visualizes data for tens of thousands of products, from smartphones to tablets to fitness trackers. For each product, they track a variety of metrics
  8. It’s a common question, particularly around the holiday season: should I buy this pricey tech gift now, or wait until a price drop? Compared to prices for concert tickets, home furniture or travel, tech prices have a habit of coming down — and fast — sometimes in just a few short months. Technology is getting much better every year, and consumers are reaping the benefits. Consider, for example, that the cost of computer memory in 2001 was roughly 100 times more expensive than it is now. (The 2015 cost has been rounded to the nearest cent.) With this in mind, we looked at six popular tech gif
  9. The other day while browsing through the Mac App Store I stumbled across this nifty piece of software called Typeeto (it’s currently on sale for $1.99 but I believe that ends tonight, so if you think it’s cool after giving this a read, get it now before it jumps back to $9.99). So what is Typeeto? Typeeto is an app that enables you to use your Mac keyboard as a Bluetooth keyboard for other devices such as your iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, or even Android device. It’s super easy to configure as well and doesn’t require any additional software (aside from Typeeto on your Mac). In terms of setup, si
  10. The movie Inside Out and the world of digital content marketing draw their strength from the same source: the power of the image. Entrepreneurs, to be true to their name, should maximize digital marketing for optimal profit. However, whereas Inside Out has succeeded greatly with its marketing strategy, the same cannot be said of all entrepreneurs. The worldwide success of Inside Out is emphasized by its excellent use of animation to provide visual representation for something abstract and in many ways resistant to language—the human emotion. For the millions of people who flocked to the cinem
  11. Voice recognition software continues to transform our lives in very real and important ways. The ability for a machine to translate and understand voice commands is the first step in an ever-growing chain of technological development. It’s a chain that helps us connect with those close to us, get more done and operate more efficiently. As voice recognition becomes more intelligent, it will inevitably open the doors to new avenues that we haven’t yet contemplated as realistic possibilities. 12. As cloud-based applications grow increasingly popular, there are security concerns that arise. The cloud environment may seem unlimited in its scope, and it certainly provides a convenient way to access data anywhere. Yet this same accessibility can be a security concern for some. Sending your data out there to a cloud system that doesn’t seem to have any clear boundaries can be troubling, but fortunately today’s telco cloud providers are working on new way for operators to protect your data. In the meantime, here are a few ways to take advantage of cloud benefits while still staying safe. Li
  13. Regardless of your budget, you probably have some names on your list that don’t require an extravagantly priced gift. The following list includes a variety of gifts, all under $100, which should appeal to a variety of different tastes and preferences. We’ll start the list with a $100 suggestion, then count down to the most inexpensive item of all. #1. Jawbone UP2 Price: $100 Jawbone was an early entrant in the fitness tracker space and this redesigned version of its basic, full-feature model has been highly reviewed and well received. Most premium trackers at this price level are either le
  14. This past week I had the opportunity to go to Israel (my first time!) and be immersed into the incredible startup ecosystem. I plan to write a handful of articles detailing my experiences there, but first, lets set the stage. Tel Aviv Startup Stats I spent a majority of my time in Israel in and around Tel Aviv which is the major startup hub of the country. Israel is currently home to more than 3,300 startup companies, 970 (or 29%) of which are based in Tel Aviv. The two biggest categories of startups in Israel are Internet companies and communications companies accounting for approximately 40
  15. Hey Chuck, I've used Opera in the past... it's a nice browser. The thing is though the stuff that made it really unique they removed a while back when they switched it over to a Chromium-based browser (what Google Chrome is based off of). I personally prefer Chrome to any other browser at the moment. B
  16. Hey, I was having a similar issue. Here's what I did: I downloaded Tweaking.com's Windows Repair tool from here: http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html Then, in the app I opened the Start Repairs tab, then clicked Custom Repairs and ticked ONLY the box that said Repair Windows Updates. Let it start the repair and hopefully it'll fix your issue. Let us know! B
  17. Definitely miss Sultan. The master of links.

I think I fixed the spammer issue... somehow our IPB license key was removed which meant we didn't have the anti-spam feature enabled. I have now added back our license key. Fingers crossed. B
  19. You need at least a 5th generation iPod Touch to run iOS 7. It is unlikely that your current iPod can run iOS 7. B
  20. Hey, This article from ArsTechnica looks like it should help you out. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2008/07/running-ubuntu-on-the-eee-pc/ Let me know if you need anything else! B
  21. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
  22. Here, I also just found this helpful video... the guy is doing what you want to do and recorded the entire process (he has a slightly different model, but it should be pretty much the same):
  23. Hey, Well, if you plan on using the SSD to house your operating system and apps, etc then you're going to want to remove the C (at least that does seem logical as you seem to think as well) and replace it with the SSD. Hope that helps, if you have any additional questions feel free to ask. B
