  1. Good luck with it:-) Just make sure as shanenin said that you enable your firewall when you install your distro. Without a firewall enabled you can be hacked in Linux.
  2. You will be up and running quickly with Mandrake 10.1, it has excellent hardware detection and a user friendly graphical installer. You can tweak Mandrake and learn about Linux, it would be a good first choice for an install. Debian would be more challenging, although I haven't used it. I learned a lot about Linux when I successfully installed Slackware after several failed attempts:-) Like iccaros said it depends on how you define easy. If you are able to approach the install with the attitude that it will be a good learning experience and you don't get upset if things go boink then try D
  3. I am interested in Fedora, thanks for the tip.
  4. Very cool. I agree, I like Iccaros Linux better than Knoppix.
  5. inventor.......................reference to my buddy, macmarauder
  6. Very cool! Welcome to Linux! Here's a link to a command line tutorial that'll show you how to navigate your hard drive, run commands, and find files. When you're running Iccaros Linux click on the program called Konsole if you're using the KDE desktop or Terminal if you're using the Gnome desktop. This tutorial will teach you some basics of using a command line shell prompt. Command Line Tutorial
  7. Man, that's a drag. Hopefully you had your PCs above the high water mark.

    Mmmm....

Yeah, I generally don't use windows. I've got one XP box at home that my daughter uses; I've got it locked down pretty well with the latest patches and spyware removal software...............but.............................it still isWINDOWS.......eep
  9. I've found it to be very good at finding hardware. It found all of my hardware and my Internet connection. I hope you like it.
  10. Back in Black, AC/DC....................good mind numbing stuff.
  11. Oh c'mon...now you're just bragging...I've managed to alienate myself from just about everyone by switching to linux gotta love watching peoples eyes glaze over when you start rambling about linux and FOSS with enthusiasm...lol LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only person who bores his co-workers with stories about how great Linux and OSS is. It's weird though, where I work people don't understand, know about, or even care about Linux. Even sysadmins are mostly windows or mac users.........sheesh:-) Linux rules.

LOL Yep, still around:-) I've been working on my Linux box, having fun. Slackware 10 rocks
  13. Are you able to run your Iccaros CD on another computer? Bad burn maybe?
  14. I agree with iccaros. All of the rpm distros will work fine on your unit. I'm currently using Slackware and like it a lot. BSD was fun as well. I would download some distros and give them a test drive.
  15. The pages look great, iccaros
  16. Oh man, do I ever need a good shot of java this morning, my two year old woke me up very early this morning.
  17. Thanks MistaMatt90 for supporting the project I've also put a link to Iccaros Linux at My Linux Stuff website.
  18. Hi, tictoc5150, I suggested to iccaros to remove the reference to the splash screen in my edit of the main web page. Those changes should take place when the updated site is posted:-)
  19. You're very welcome, iccaros! I'm very happy to help you in any way I can
  20. True enough. Mandrake and Slackware will run okay with 128 MB RAM, they'll be a bit sluggish depending on the wm that you use. If you're going to run a low RAM box and use x windows pick a light weight window manager like Enlightenment, Xfce, Flux Box, Blackbox.
  21. No problem, you're very welcome
  22. Yep, just like Knoppix. Download Iccaros Linux
