I have this cd drive which has been problematic for as long as I can remember. Somedays it will work perfectly fine other days it wont read disks at all. When its being problematic the drive spins up and then slows down then spins up again for mabey a minute or so. Then it finnaly stops. In My computer it says there is no disk inserted but there is one. I put my cleaner disk in there and ran it through for 20 minutes but that hasnt helped. Iv checked all the connections etc etc...
Is this drive just dying/dead? Warrenty is definately gone by now so I cant send it back. Its my secondary drive so its not essential to my system. Somtimes it nice to be able to burn two CDs at once though.
That actually reminds me. I dont think I have ever had a problem burning disks in that drive... Just reading them.
Have you ever cleaned it?

Problem solved it is amazing what you can do with a few hour sleep. The Option under settings/ advanced/display/ monitor (the ati control panel) allowed me to overide the refresh of monitor now it matches the settings/advanced/monitor settings. Thanks to all that had input.

exactly how old is it? (what I've found on google it's around 6 years I'm assuming and insanely expensive for a CRT) have you made sure the the cable is plugged in good? Have you tried it on other computers and have you tried other monitors on your computer? Sorry for the barage of qestions but this could help in fixing your problem.
Yes it was crazy expensive at the time but It was needed. I had just started doing freelance at home and it afforded me some serious realestate for that time period. Yes I tried a 17" samsung On this machine and it works fine. I have checked the cable.
xxkbxx video driver updated today.

Have you tried removing the monitor in Device Manager then rebooting to see if XP reloads the previous monitor drivers?
That is what I have not done thanks I would have never remembered to do that. Back in the old days of 98 that would have been the first thing I did.

I have very bad flicker right now the Monitor says the current resolution is 1280x1024 at 60hz but Windows
says 1280x1024 at 85hz (which is what it should be). This has alway been the resolution never had a problem. Until today any idea why this is happening. Also I had setup to not display harmful refresh rates now it does and the box is grayed out.
This is a old Monitor but it has served well I would like to keep it. Any help on this would be appreciated.
I have updated the Video driver but does not help. The only monitor driver available is win95. Window device manager at one time listed the monitor by name now it only says default.

Occasionally on startup, the welcome screen is frozen. I cannot click to log in to my account and after a few clicks, there's a beep and the mouse freezes up as well. A restart or two fixes it but it's been bugging me a little bit. Any ideas?
BTW, I've had this problem since before the heat issues and the underclock/undervolt/FSB OC I mentioned in my other post...
you got a misbehaving driver or startup program. If you have installed any new programs use it's prefs to keep it from starting with windows. Update all you drivers. Use a startup manager to control programs that start with window.

SP4 includes previous SPs.
Thanks Got it done. I pulled it out of moth balls to install on a used PC I did not want to go through installing all the patches that occured since I stopped using it.
again Thanks

so wat r big problems with opera?
There are no big problems with Opera. Anyone who says its hard to use is either too lazy to stick with it until they get used to it, or too lazy to read the tutorials.
As a LONG TIME Opera user, all I can say is,its fast, its lean, and its clean. Firefox(ouch) lasted about a week on my PC.
Oh,and 'Mouse", Opera has been ad-free for awhile now.
If you are looking for a serious, secure browser,Opera is what you want. If you believe all the Keven/Leo Firefox smooching propaganda, then stay with FF.
AMEN!! HPoirot36. Over the years Opera has had it's issues like anything man made but it has never been any major problem. I have used Opera since the very first version I got on a MaximumPC demo disc been hook ever since.
-
by the way on the pages that say "this page can only be view with IE" many times you can get around it by going to tools/ quick preference/ then click on Identify as FF, opera or IE. Does not work all the time but will many more times than not.
-
I use Opera almost exclusivley and have for many years now. It is a smaller DL than FF and come almost complete. FF you will need to DL extention. Opera is faster but FF has the upper had on handling website but they are usually sites that IE exclusive that I have problems with.
The only thing I added to Opera was Spell Check and Speach. It has a decent mail client and chat feature. Opera perfect tabbed browsing way back when.

Yes I would switch but why make a choice? you have them both.

Have any of you used a universal laptop adapter? The one day I spent at a local computer shop(considered taking a job there), I was shown a universal power adapter. The tech who worked there told me it would autodetect and give the correct voltage(no settings to change) to any laptop. He said it would work for most any laptop people would bring in. The only ones it would not work for were dells, due to their odd plugs. If they are any good, I would like to purchase one for my self.
I have heard good thing from My friends and on the net about the IGO Juice power adapter Been thinking about one myself.

Oh rhema7, jetaudio was missing some stuff (or at least I couldn't find it) I needed to record the services that's why I used Audacity. Just wanted to let you know.
What is it missing?
-
I always say jetaudio I have tranfered over a 1000 Jazz and Blues LPs to disc no problems plus you can prename the tracks. I like Audacity but it has never done the job that JetAudio does for me or as easily.

First off YellowBook is a joke. They continue to rag Us (bellsouth) yet they don't have the common decency to design thier own logo. They have run with our concept. Yellow we started it , walking fingers we did it. The constantly steal from our art and design. If you can get a yellowpage ad it they have 87% of the target customer better designers (me for one).
Second you need tools to design a logo:
1. a vector graphics and page layout program (with logos that need to be resized for different application only a vector image will maintain quality and the printer will prefer it). I use adobe Illustrator but Inkscape is free
