  1. Another question if I doan inplace upgrade to repair the installation will personal files remain? (intheory we all know the theory rarely is the outcome)
  2. expand e:\i386\pci.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers /y is exactly what I did (i just left out the /y when I typed here) perhaps I will pull a stick of ram and try them separatly
  3. expand e:\i386\pci.sy_ c:\WINDOWS\system32\driver is what I used in the recovery console. I get access denied. I mapped the drive so I know it is the correct CD rom drive any insite would help. This person is a writer and would like to get her latest book off before reformating. (yes she has copies but the ready for print edit was on the HDD when the pci.sys corrupted. XP Home SP3 Athlon XP 2000 300gb HD Preston
  4. Thanks I have been flustered by so many software tests I have finger dyslexia Plus I just had to tranfer my Yahoo music account to Rhapsody feeling uneasy they never explained how long the current price will remain "for a limited time" that means nothing I wanted to know when I will go from $23.95 per quarter to $35.95. Sorry Rabbit trail "maybe I sould not use flustered to explain my state of mind it is kind like a man being giddy. Just something men don't do."
  5. That is a feather in it's cap also it is open source wait until the masses get ahold of it but I'm with BubbaBob Opera is what I bleed .
  6. Nope I did not see it maybe they can remove this thread and my rep will not sufer much. Thanks
  7. I know it is mere beta testing but so far I'm not impressed. Perhaps it is just getting use to the navigation. It is spartan in appearence with a few cool features under the hood but it will take a browser handed down from the hand of God to replace Opera in my heart. What has been your experience? Preston PS I'll be intrested to see what Googlebot has to say about Chrome Oops I mispelled Chrome in the heading. Man I feel stupid wish I could delete and start over. Could one of the Mods fix the spelling please my wife should be the only one that thinks I'm stupid. thanks

  9. The copy Of SP3 may have gotten corrupted in the DL have you tried downloading the IT version? when sp2 came out I tried to do it through Auto Update and got errors galore I downloaded the IT professionals version and had no problems. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  10. ATI vs NVidia Apple vs Windows AMD vs Pentium It never ends the best browser is the one gets teh job done for you (while providing a relitively safe enviroment) I love Opera ever since it's first release even when I had to pay for it. I would be a fool to say it is better in all areas than another browser. I use differrent ones. IE works better with my company benefits sites, Firefox I use just for the stumble upon plugin. Opera 97% of the time.
  11. Comodo is aggravating in the learning stages if you have it in learning mode, but i still contend that it is one of the better ones out there. Mine has been perking for years now with only minor tweets after updates. I suggest you turn the security level to custom policy mode instead of Training mode. With your level of expertise training mode can be foregone.
  12. Have you tried another program like AutoStreamer and a fresh copy of the SP's and updates?
  13. if you are planning to upgrade be very carefull Sony is nasty bad about proprietary parts. CD/DVD drives tend to be smaller than standard the PSU may also be simularly outside the norm.
  14. I guess the conversation was killed by the over zealous admin. I was hoping to get the oppinions of others that is what this lace has always been about. It is a fine line between acceptable limitation and a police state that kill the efectiveness of the forum. I understand this also is an oppinion (be it ever so humble), but all oppinions are based on a certain ammount of moral judgement based on individual orientation, but it should leave others with freedom to expand. Preston I thought long about repling back to ths thread started and stopped. I want to avoid an arguement yet keep the goo
  15. Fat 32 has a file size limit of 4gig so if you plan to achive video (a DVD is ove 4gig) go with NTFS. NTFS also offers better security ReiserFS if a linux file system windows would not see it but many Linux flavors can read and write ntfs and definitely FAT32. 18. That was quite an unfair statement. He may well be protecting the moral integrity of a family member. His methods are not for you to judge. I have had to do it myself with Teen children that think they are far smarter than you . After They found out i can and will know it all I stopped because they knew That I guard my patch very well. Regardless it is his business, his life , his family and his computer Joe is a member of good standing here to insult him maybe a bad move here. Preston
  19. Laymans First step. First thing I would try is to restore back to a time before the virus attack. Run virus scan (may pickup virus in restore point not in use this is OK for now) . Create a new restore point. Trash all but most recent restore points. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555367 then run a complete virus scan and malware scan. This is just a good way to start. Many time it will clear up all but the worst infections. (this is just a simple place to start) If it does not work escalate to more aggressive means.
  20. I'm having no problem with IE7, Opera (excepththe green text) or FF
  21. I have yet to find a good reason for me to Switch from XP. I have several friends that purchased new machines with Vista and have requested XP be installed on it. Most say it is just different enough to ruin productivity but they admit if they wanted to they could learn to live with it even be just as proficient, But in my oppinion if I wanted to hit the ground running with a new system I would do it better with XP but it is just an oppinion. You already have a flavor or Vista so your experience may be different from mine. Preston
