This has happened from the time I installed Mandrake 10.0. I start it up and all it is is a blue desktop with no icons and it's really plain. Then I click 'Logoff' and it starts the KDE desktop loading. And then it takes me to my normal desktop. Anyway to bypass the first 'desktop'? Thanks

Did you disable the onboard audio in the Device Manager?

Is there a sticker on the Gateway about Microsoft Windows? It usually has the CD key on it. I'm not sure about Win98 though...

From the description, it sounds like it's only capable of doing 'out'.

Call HP and ask for for a replacement drive.

I would recommend getting at least 1GB for gaming.

Mandrake was my first real install of Linux. It was very user friendly and partitioning was a breeze.

Sounds a lot like AMDs Cool 'n' Quiet for the 64s. It should be pretty safe. BTW, why are you temps that high at idle?

49 idle is still pretty high. My AMD Athlon 64 3200+ idles at 30~34 depending on how hot it is in my room.You wouldn't happen to have an Abit AV8 would you? Becuase before my BIOS update, mine would idle at around 50 and then they re-calibrated the CPU temps.
