  1. What kind of gun shoots enough "sparks," far enough, to ignite nearby brush? Sounds fishy. And I can see if what he was doing was perfectly legal that they wouldn't press any charges. Perfect weather, warm & sunny, predictions of rain but I don't see how. Satellite images show stormy weather moving AWAY from the area, so unless the storms pull some weird, sudden, 180 degree turn, I think not.
  2. That's kinda surprising 'cause it's dropped below $4.00 'round here. Now I can afford that Hummer!
  3. Great idea! NIMBY = Not In My Back Yard Everyone wants something or other; more power plants to prevent brownouts, more wind power, more oil refineries, more roads, etc., but NO ONE wants them in their own neighborhoods.
  4. Gee, I don't know WHY we assumed she's doing it wrong in the first place!
  5. She's half-right: Only people with antivirus programs are AWARE of a virus infection.
  6. I'm just waiting for the "sudden" realization that solar power will have a negative effect. You take all that solar energy that USED to be absorbed by the Earth, suck it away to power distant cities, and you just wait and see ... It's going to have a drastic effect on the local climate. Solar power's taking a long time to become mainstream so maybe I'll be dead and gone, but it's GOING to happen.

    Bug Bites,

OK, this is just weird. I was schmoozing a customer last night and she was scratching her arm. She told me she got bit by a "mosquito" but it was bad, then she proceeded to tell me EXACTLY the same symptoms I had and that co-worker I previously mentioned had. Her arm was swollen over a section about the size of her hand, it itched like crazy, and it was HOT to the touch! Like me, she'd never experienced a bug bite like this before (she's a few years younger than I am). How is it we can go our whole lives, getting mosquito bites like anyone else without experiencing anything out of the ordinar
  8. Yum, Spam! Spam-de-spam! Spam, Spam, Spam. Just tryin' to get the adbot to show an ad for Spam, the delicious pork shoulder & gelatin meat in a can! Gonna fry me up some Spam, put it on a couple pieces of rye bread, with lettuce & tomato and a schmear of mayo. Yum! It's Spam!

    My Project

I've never been able to bring myself to have someone else do it for me, but there ARE people who detail cars that'll do all that stuff for ya. At a price. But then, there are people who will come and clean my house, do the yardwork, fix the little things, etc, and I'm too cheap to hire any of them, either.
  10. Ya gotta love the Googlebot ad for "coal" power! Oops, it went away ... -----
  11. THAT'S for sure! Wait, just remembered a friend who is so skittish he automatically clicks "Cancel," whether it's a valid process or not! -----
  12. Pearl Jam, No Code Four or five GREAT songs, a few good ones, a couple of "meh," and the most bizarre packaging since the Seventies.
  13. We've had our sewer and water service hooked up to the phone line for, oh, I don't know, a decade or so, sure wouldn't mind if they'd upgrade the electric to do the same. Especially if they do the whole "demand pricing" thing. I work nights so my electric useage during the day consists of making sure the alarm clock is plugged in (plus all the background stuff you can't really turn off). I've always felt slighted when I'd read about demand pricing. HEY! I don't USE much electricity during the day, give me that pricing break, will ya? I have to assume ComEd will take their sweet time getting a
  14. A form of Musical Chairs? When the storms cease, everybody stay put!
  15. The Future Is Here! I imagine the more products are connected the more strange exploits we're going to see. We should start a pool to see when the first wristwatch exploit appears! I've always used HP printers (and paid the price in supplies and glitches), everyone I know who has Epson printers loves them. Hmm.
  16. Alcohol's ALWAYS a welcome suggestion.
  17. Maybe I'm not old enough to remember (that's hard to believe some times) but were power outages less frequent when utilities didn't utilize sub-contractors? I imagine sub-contractors are less expensive for the utilities than maintaining a work force large enough for every contingency, and I also imagine sub-contractors "save money" (as they would have to do to win contracts) by not being as diligent as in-house workers might be (and that's kind of a joke as utility workers were/are famous for NOT working hard -- whether that's a deserved reputation or not). Guess I AM old enough to be crank
  18. If we're going to post every mistake, misstep or misinterpretation made during this campaign there'd be nothing else to post about.
  19. Tuesday 5/7: One hour (1) (Didn't make it one month ... ) Sometime after midnight on Saturday 6/28: A few minutes (I reckon, as I wasn't home). Made it over a month! Around 5 or 6 pm on 7/2: about 35 minutes (lasted four days this time!). Around 5 pm on 7/21: about 8 minutes (two-and-a-half weeks of uninterrupted power!).
  20. I'm out in what used to be the sticks. When I moved here there was no emissions testing. Then the population exploded and once the air quality reached a certain level of stinkiness emissions testing became required, AND everybody changed to 10% ethanol -- for air quality, they say. So if you're still rural it's gotta be somethin' else. It's cheaper for the refineries, I think, but ONLY due to tax subsidies, that ought to be reason enough for them to make the switch. Even when I had a junker it passed emissions tests, they must not be that tough. My impression is that if it runs OK it'll pass.
  21. I can't picture BREADED grilled fish ...
  22. I have a request: Could you PLEASE not sit so close to your monitor? I'm catching what you got. <sniffle>
  23. Ethanol is a much more active solvent than gasoline, it actually "scours" your system rather than "gunk it up." Cars have been designed for ~10 percent ethanol for at least a decade so your car will be fine. Did they switch to ethanol because of air quality or ... ? Looks like the cheap stuff here is around $4.20 and stuck there.
  24. Geez, 110 degrees. Fuggetaboutit. Seasonable here with passing storms (needed).
  25. I've had a song in my head for several days now, so: Black Sabbath's self-titled first album; Black Sabbath The Wizard Wasp Behind The Wall Of Sleep Bassically N.I.B. Wicked World A Bit Of Finger Sleeping Village Warning The ONLY thing that dates it is a bit too much vocal reverb (though it adds to the "evil" atmosphere), otherwise, it's PERFECT.
