  1. "$1" theaters reminds me of the place I went that was so disgusting my shoes STUCK to the floor. I lifted my legs and my shoes were STILL ON THE FLOOR! Blech, I'll pay a couple dollars extra to have someone run a mop across the floor once in a while.

Haven't you heard the joke Marty? People call the move from XP to Vista a "downgrade," and if they have a computer with Vista on it they're calling the move back to XP an "upgrade." Silly computer users.
  3. Wow! They've known about the existence of the animal for a century but nobody's caught one on film until now?!? I knew what one was and I'm pretty sure I've "seen" one, so ... how? Zoos? Illustrations? Just ... wow.
  4. Whoa there Marty. There are a lot of crazies in every culture. Plenty of people "wish" a lot of other people harm. If terrorists had been able to they'd have attacked the current president, and it's not because of his race. I honestly believe we're past the point where Obama's race is even an issue except for a very small number of idio... err... persons of an uncivilized nature. I also think we're past the point where Hillary's sex is an issue (or Palin's). Are they good politicians or not? That's all most people want to know.

Vista needs attention? Haven't you seen the Mojave Experiment? Everybody there seems to like it. (Wait, they updated the site to require MicroSoft's "Silverlight" graphics engine, there's a link for the non-silverlight site if you don't want to install it yet -- but you'll have to eventually, it'll be as ubiquitous as Flash soon enough.)
  6. "Fooled?" OK, I'm not clickin' nothin'. There's a site I don't have the link for that's something like, "Has the LHC destroyed the Earth yet?" Here it is: Has the LHC Destroyed The Earth?
  7. Well, I do have to say that after my recent fender-bender I wanted to call the local police, but I have NO idea what the non-emergency number might be. Luckily someone else called 'cause I didn't want to call 911 for something as simple as a fender-bender. But, yeah, there sure are some helpless, if not ignorant, people out there.
  8. It's still under four dollars here, but the news is filled with dire warnings of impending price increases since they shut down all the refineries on the Gulf due to H-Ivan. They said it would increase the prices locally, but we all know how it works, don't we? One of the largest refineries in the country is less than a hundred miles from me, but golly gee, somehow the hurricane will "force" them to raise prices in the MidWest too. They showed a graphic of the Gulf with an icon for each oil well there. Whoa! There sure are a LOT of oil wells in the Gulf! Best wishes for everyone living and wo

I use CCleaner every week but like every other "tool" I don't allow it to remove something if I don't know what it is. If you know what program is affected you could 'uninstall' it then reinstall. That should repair any missing registry entries. It looks like you do have to "tell" CCleaner to remind you to back up registry entries so they can be undone (under Options, Advanced). I can't find an option to RESTORE the files though.
  10. I'm almost-but-not-quite used to saying, "Hey, I have that on CD," during commercials now. And, what worries me just as much, I like the new Cadillacs! Oh noes! ----- Today it's "I Love The 70's and 80's," starring; Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, Eurythmics, Heart and Michael Jackson.
  11. When they go too far, do exactly what you did by following the sage advice of Nancy Reagan, "Just Say No." I stopped going to music concerts after my first "search." Not that that had any effect on the music industry. I guess the proper thing to do would be to contact whoever's in charge of the event and explain why you won't be attending any such events now or in the future, but the person you'd be talking to wouldn't have any authority or responsibility and would probably just dismiss you as a paranoid crackpot. ... let them drown in their own stupity, I say.
  12. Did your brother just hang up when he realized his mistake? That's awesome they made absolutely CERTAIN there wasn't a problem. That could've gone any number of other ways.
  13. I still remember the EXACT moment I knew life would never be the same (eg, I'm officially "old"). I remember being, literally, on an elevator, though I don't remember where, and the "elevator music" was an instrumental version of a Janis Joplin song. Hey! I used to "party" to music like that! Now it's ELEVATOR MUSIC?!? Of course with advances since then "new" music gets played all the time, but back then it was quite a shock to hear it. Re: Gospel music. I can certainly understand the power if it. Some of it can bring me to tears. Not a lot of popular music can do that. Some, but not a lot.
  14. I'm going to go out on a limb and, without even check the video first, guess that "Sabbath" isn't a shortened version of "Black Sabbath." I'm behind schedule today so I just turned on the radio, currently Jesus Jones, Right Here, Right Now (which I have on CD).
  15. Black Sabbath, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath & Sabotage.
  16. I was one of the last hold-outs for high speed connections (I waited until the price of a DSL connection came down to the same price as dial-up). So, I did learn how to run a lean machine (not as important with newer OS's since memory management is so much better), and a lean browser (the less stuff onscreen, the better, for example, turn off display of things like avatars, signatures and smilies in forums). My dial-up provider supplied one of those "accelerator" apps and despite the whining from the nay-sayers, it helped a lot. You can get an aftermarket accelerator and run it when you're for
  17. The law states each of the credit reporting agencies MUST supply ONE free credit report annually. I've been doing it for some time, every four months getting a report from each of the three agencies in turn. The trick is to ignore anything on their site that "suggests" a product for sale. No, I want my FREE report and nothing else, thankyouverymuch. This is the first time I've had any difficulty, which I will assume is simply a date issue (though my calendar says it's time, I might have procrastinated last year and didn't order it until later, hence I haven't gone a full year without one fro
  18. <snip!> ---- What a coincidink. While waiting for my computer to reboot I reached over to the file cabinet to sort through old receipts to toss. I throw all the receipts paid by cash in one file folder and clear them out ... well ... practically never. And guess what I found? My ticket stub from when I went to see The Matrix ! Dated 4/3/99, cost $6.75, at four in the afternoon so it must've been the matinee screening. Whoa! (Yeah, I'm a packrat.) ----- Oopsey, meant to "edit," not "quote." Long night. ----- Finally figured out I could reduce the "load" by editing out the mistaken
  19. I'm gonna hafta check to see if there's a place I can file a complaint. I'm going to try again first as it's POSSIBLE they track it to-the-day and I may have put it off a day or three last year. I'm with ya on SS numbers. In fact, back when I was a teenager (almost 40 years ago) I had a huge disagreement with my big brother over using SS numbers for anything other than social security. I couldn't believe he did not see the potential problems, he thought I was an idiot. For whatever reason I'm still ticked off about that (Paging Dr. Freud, paging Dr. Freud.). As soon as the state allowed it
  20. Are you talking about IE? I checked the option for it NOT to check if it's the default browser and haven't seen that pop-up in years. Re: Chrome, does it require XP or above?
  21. I'm gonna redact the company's name -- I just happen to be listening to a legal podcast so I'd rather overreact than not: I have my computer's calendar set to remind me when it's time to request my legally mandated free credit report from each of the three companies that supply them. So, it's time to get one from company X. I fill out all the forms, submit them, and get a reply that they cannot give me a free form at this time since I have already requested on this year. I printed it out last year so I dig it out and ... sure enough, it WAS a year ago. I have NOT requested one this year. Th
  22. Many X-Box 360 users I know are hooked on Gears Of War. In fact, if you meet my nephew online, may God have mercy on your soul for you shall surely be vanquished.
  23. To play Devil's Advocate: How many people call tech support for things that CAN easily be remedied by a script? 90%? 80%? I'm sure it's OVER 50%, so the script thing probably helps enough people to make it worth the trouble. Then, there's us. People who have SOME idea of how to fix such minor problems and have already gone through "the script" on our own. In my experience, once you've convinced the script reader that you need more technical help than the script can supply, you get bumped to the next level and ... THAT level has almost always been professional, helpful, and actually capable o
