  1. Keep in mind the prices they are now asking for a new PC. Go online and check the prices for a new Dell that falls into the same range. then figure any added parts that go with it. You can get a new Dell for the home for between $300. and $600 after rebates. The first name brand I bought years ago cost me well over a grand for a basic system. Couple years later prices started to drop and have been going down ever since. The same PC I bought, you couldn't give away today. Not worth anything. So keep that in mind when you do set a price.
  2. I don't know for sure, but I think the price might drop for XP once Vista is released. I know 98 dropped when XP hit the main stream. That could save you a little money. AHhhhh.....Rebuilding. I just love building my own rig. It's allot of fun. The excitement of pushing the start button and seeing everything start up. And working the first time! Only problem I had with mine was my power supply. It decided to die on me. Powered everything up the first time with no problems. Did the Repair install to detect all the hardware changes, called the toll free number and got activated ok. Rebooted, an
  3. I thought about a fresh install. But with some of the programs I have loaded, I went with the reactivation process. (Major hardware change big time) Heck.... allot easier then I thought. 15 min. on the phone talking to a computer (female to boot) and I was reactivated. And I thought I was going to have to waste my spare CD and key just to get back on track. If I would have known it was that easy. I would have sold the spare long ago. But it's nice to have a backup laying around.
  4. Barkeep An Ice Cold One for me please. Just got everything going. And I need a drink. Tired of all the extra work on the new build. Man...reactivation... And redoing updates after updates after updates....then more updates. And drivers and more activations and then more updates...... I think it would have been better to reinstall the OS and start fresh..... Actually I've been done for a couple of days now. But I was checking out the differences between 32 and 64 bit OS's. Dual booting Vista with both types of platforms loaded. Yes there is a difference. But thought I had better get back in g

  13. After years of playing with the services. Trying them every way there might be. (on...off...on...off) And getting into heated debates over them. This is what I recommend anymore. If your just doing everyday stuff with your PC, and that includes many, many things. Just leave everything alone for services. The ones I know, that it really makes a difference with. Are those running very intense graphic or music creating related software. Where they need every ounce of free system resources. They have the very limited things installed on their PCs for what they are doing. They mostly never run (or

  15. 5 lessons to make you think about the way we treat people. 1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady. During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?" Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question
  16. Latex Gloves As all of you know dentists use latex gloves when working on their Patients. Well the following may help you understand why. How Latex Gloves are Made: A dentist noticed that his next patient, an elderly lady, was looking Very nervous so he decided to tell her a little joke as he put on his Gloves. Do you know how they make these gloves?" he asked. No, I don't," she replied. Well," he spoofed, "there's a building in China with a big tank Of latex and workers of all hand sizes walk up to the tank, dip in Their hands, let them dry, then peel off the gloves and throw them Into

  18. Go into your bois settings and click on "Optimize Settings". (you should have that). It will automatically set your CPU to the correct speed. I have had to do that to two of my boards to get it to recognize the true speed. See if that helps.
