Well I tried to download Knoppix from a mirror site (Purdue U) yesterday, and when it got to 33% the download locked. I am on cable and have good speed (downloading and uploading). Been to the bit torrent site and still a little confused...guess I'll have to buy a disk if I don't figure this thing out.

Martymas I agree avg and avast are both free, while the misconception of free = bad exist, I have never had problems with either. Marsh ox Good call...avast is good.

What is all this Bittorrent, Sun java and these other programs about. Do I need these to download an ISO and burn it.

OK, lets see if I get this right. If I am interested in Linux I can go to the site jcl mention, download and burn a cd, which will boot my pc to this operating system without screwing up my XP pro. The entire operating system will be on the cd? The disk has to stay in the drive the whole time? Which is the best site/mirror? By the way I like what I see...had my fill of windows.

I attempted to load twice from cd with AV and firewall off as suggested by another forum and both attempts crashed my system. I finnaly said what the hell and downloaded it from M$ with AV and firewall on....believe it or not...NO PROBLEMS

The only time I go there now is to check with my cyber friends ...Sultan, PeteC, Tyme and a few others also to see whats going on and help if and when I can, but it's gotten ridiculous there. I wish Pete would migrate to this forum.

I too am using it. I love it. No problems at all.

Wattage on power supply? I Just missed a 200 gb hdd from them folks for $89.00 (matter of the $$ at that time). Other than that all looks good. Not a noticable difference in clock speed to justify the additional $$$, on the processor issue.

Hey B, I would like to see PeteC bumped to the head of the class. He should be a Moderator, trusted Advisor, Sr. tech or something. You know as well as I do (and many others), that his knowledge is vast. His experience is invaluable. Alot of us have trusted his fixes and advice inplicitly.
