OK. Let me try to understand this. I posted a thank you to a friend that I have known and admired for 30 years. Posting it was a tribute to a great man. Thanks for the reply b-dog. Yes the HD is easy to remove. It's just a 3.5" regular IDE HD. The software is LINUX, which I am familiar with. However they do have some proprietary code mixed in with it. I read about the ways you could extract the video from the experts over at Weakness. Actually THEY don't post it but there are links to the guys that do on the WK forums. The last time I read the details it reminded me of a Masters thesis that I had to do back in college. ......Not sure if I want to put myself in that much grief. We'll see. Thanks for the reply jcl. So are the claims of 3Gb/sec on these drives THAT over rated? Clearly that is what they are stating. If you are correct that would be a huge lie. I'm now starting to reconsider things. The upgrade came about due the click of death sound emitting from the original Sata I Western Digital 80 gig HDD. I thought I would just patch things up with a new big HDD and an XP re install. Since then I bought an LG DVD-RW drive (original DVD Rom/ CD-RW was also fried). Then I figured that I should replace the archaic 128 MB PCIe video card with something a little more recent. So

I am upgrading my older PC. I built it in 2006. AMD Athlon 64 3200 on a MSI K8N Neo4F mainboard. Here's the problem: I just bought a Seagate Sata II 1.5TB hard drive. Tranfer rate is 3Gb/sec. My mainboard only supports Sata I which is 1.5 Gb/sec. I know how to set the jumper on the hard drive to limit the transfer rate to 1.5. But will doing that slow it to a crawl? I thought about adding a SATA II controller card. I have an open PCI Express x1 slot and a few PCI slots. Would the expansion slots just cause a bottleneck and slow the transfer rate down anyway? Thanks for the replies BT and Mr. Bill. I'm checking out the Dish plans now. DirecTV has been a p.i.t.a. for most of the time. They are constantly increasing their monthly rates. Customer service is non existant. When you finally DO get through after a one hour wait on the phone, they will try to appease your disatisfaction with something like a measly $15 refund. (this happened a few years ago after I could not get NY Yankee games for 5 days while paying an extra $180 for the MLB Network).
