Pc Help Instruction Problem
shanenin replied to welshwolves's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Stop codes are funny, they can be so vague. I back up JSKY's advice, check the ram. If you only have one stick try and run memstest86 on it. I say this because checking the memory is the easiest thing to do. I have came across lots of machines with bad memory, so I am having my doubts about memory lately. -

if they are just websurfing, make linux work :-) 98se is fine, but it is not as stable as linux. If the congregation will be wanting to run other microsoft software like word, then maybe 98se is a better choice.

Try and run a live linux cd, see if that runs without issue. I say that because I just had a job that appeared to have a bad video card. It was giving these issues. The windows logo that shows while booting, had vertical red lines running through it. This was before the any video drivers were loaded. That made me thing the hardware was faulty. After the desktop was drawn(nvidia drivers were loaded), the desktop had video defects. Reloading windows fresh fixed all of the problems, including the vertical red lines during the bootup splash screen. If everything looks good while running linux, you

Its working today. Yesterday the screen formatting when on the quick edit screen was also messed up, the "use full editor" button was larger then the other buttons. I am not sure what happened between last evening and today, but the problem seems to be gone. By the way, I like the "use full editor button". Many times I start to do a "quick edit", and then decide i need to use some formatting. This way my post is not lost when switching to "full edit".

I would probably uninstall the old version first. With that said, I tend to impulsively do stuff with out thinking through the consequences.

the "quick edit" feature does not seem to be working correctly. I can't save my edits when using it. testing

so that is your complete path variable? if that is the case, it is odd. Normally when a program adds its self to the variable it just appends it like this(I think): C:\Windows\System32\;C:\Windows\;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Motorola\Canopy\NetworkUpdater\_jvm\bin you could just use this line above. It would work as a fix. I wonder if the Motorola installer is just obliterating your path instead of appending it, or if the problem lies within windows.

That was kind of freaky. Those cars seemed to be in the left lane without being able to see oncoming traffic do to the curves.. It seemed like a very likely possibility of a head on collision

I am not sure what I think about listing the visitors to profiles. I think I will be less likely to click on somebody's profile because I don't want them to think I am watching them. Maybe I am just crazy :-) edit added later// I have never used myspace, but am guessing this new format is similar in some ways, for example, you can leave comments in peoples profiles.

Since you first posted about this in that other thread, something is not making sense. Even if c:\windows\system32 is not first, the commands should still work. In theory windows will look for the command in all of the paths that are separated by semicolons. My hunch is the path variable is incorrectly being written so it is not being used at all. What does your current path look like, after sytem32 commands quit working for you?

Update: I got a computer job yesterday, the client told me the were not able to get to any websites with IE. I thought I would try and fix it with my new found knowledge. I tried the command netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt. It did not fix the problem. I ran HJT and showed an O10 entry that reported broken internet access. I then ran lspfix, that did fix the internet problem. My conclusion is the the netsh command does not fix winsock 2 problems as I assumed it did.

In my opinion, it is easier(cleaner) to install from scratch and just install the needed packages. If you use restore disks, you have to spend lots of time uninstalling crap.

This will hurt my "windows reload" business :-)

All i use is my router as a nat based firewall. If you do not use a router, I would definitely install a software based firewall. As far as I know, their is not any spyware in the Linux world. In theory you could get a virus, but in practice it is pretty much non-existent.
