  1. I would like to get my daughter an ipod "like" mp3 player for here birthday. I say "like", becuase $150 is more then we spend for a birthday present. I was looking for something with about 2gbs of flash memory, that has a decent interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated. edit added// we normally spend about $50 for a birthday present, but up to $100 if their was a really nice player for that price.
  2. if by copier, you mean scanner, it should work. Give it a try, let us know how it works.

  4. You can name it anything you want, it is just a label.
  5. Good luck :-) I am sure you will be doing logs here in the future. I went through a fair amount of training at tomcoyote. As of now i have taken a break. I think it is interesting, but dislike the formality of it. Everything is expected to be done a specific way.
  6. try this su - enter password then run gedit agian when I do it the way you were first shown, I get the same error in the shell, but it still does ppen gedit properly
  7. He had an old drive laying around his house. I suggested he try that, that solved the problem. I used his drive to load windows without issue, but did not load any software with a cd after the install was finished.
  8. I just did a reload job for somebody. He got his computer home and is not able to load any software. The reason being, all his discs are being detected as an "audio cd". These include stamped ms office discs. I have not yet had a chance to look at it, but thought this was strange. Have any of you heard of this happening before? As to trouble shooting, I will try a different cd drive. Other then that I am lost to what would do this.
  9. Vista is being a little presumptuous.
  10. I have always just manually done it similar to the way Brian mentioned. That way even works on a machine that does not boot. Just for kicks, I tried the import/export tool. It created a file called bookmark.htm. Firefox uses a file called bookmarks.html. Wouldn't it make more sense for IE to use a file called favorites.htm?
  11. just to add to tictoc5150's post . In the example below, you would change default to 1 from 0 #grub.conf generated by anaconda default=0 timeout=10 splashimage=(hd0,4)/grub/splash.xpm.gz title GNU/Linux Fedora Core 1 (2.4.22-1.2174.nptl) root (hd0,4) kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi apm=off acpi=on rhgb initrd /initrd-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl.img title Microsoft Windows XP Pro rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1
  12. a clicking hard disc is never good. That sounds like it is defective. Since this is new computer, I would talk to the place it was purchased from for warranty work.
  13. not really, but by the end of march spring is starting to show alittle. That is good enough for me.
  14. Besides socket you need to make sure the FSB(front side bus) is supported. Even if both of those are ok, sometimes the processors still may not work. You either have a prescott or northwood, my understanding is prescotts can be picky(need specific mobo support). Check to see if their is a bios update for your motherboard to support your new proc. Just a thought, prescotts are notoriously hot. Your old heat sink may or may not be able to cool it properly.
  15. We have had a mild winter until recently. It has been below zero for a few days now. They predict -17F tonight with a high of -6F Sunday. In another month it will be almost spring. I can't wait.
  16. It looks like your country of New Zealand is very close the international date line http://worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/dateln.gif
  17. I agree, I also have trouble getting my text to look the way I like. When I use firefox, I goto edit>>preferences>>content . Then under "fonts and colors", I set minimum font size to 14. This helps alot. This may cause a few problems with rendering on some sites, but it is not to bad.
  18. Feels good when a problem gets solved. Enjoy the accomplishment :-)
