  1. Even though you are just installing a single SATA drive, you still refer to it as raid. So long as your floppy is not corrupt, you are good to go. From the nvidia site:
  2. my asus driver disk was nice. You could boot from it, and one of the options was to create a SATA driver floppy. This would work for somebody who did not have any other computer to work on.
  3. Their may be an option in your bios to run your SATA drive in IDE mode. That would be the easiest. Thier may be a very small decrease in performance. Then it would install just like any other drive. If you want to install the drive in regular SATA mode, goto your mobo manufactures sight and download the SATA drivers, you will need to put them on a floppy. If I remember correctly you have an nforce chipset. You can go directly to the nvidia sight and get the drivers. this is from the nvidia site After you have made a sata driver disk, when you goto install windows you will press f6 to load ra
  4. Does the disc copy feature in nero, or any other copy program make a perfect bit for bit copy of an audio cd?
  5. I really enjoy animal documentaries. This is pretty cool http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=57...;q=type%3Agpick
  6. I reloaded a media center edition pc today. IE7 was not available again. If Microsoft changed their policy, you think it would be big news in the tech circles.
  7. I know you are probably kidding, but I kind of thought that might be true. I checked to see if it was listed in optional updates, but it was not. It was nowhere to be found using microsoft updates.
  8. I have never had this happen before. I was updating an XP service pack 2 computer, this was after doing a generic clean install. According to microsoft update, I was fully updated, their were not any critical updates available. I have rebooted and still am running IE6. I checked Microsoft updates again but it said I was fully updated, no critical updates available. I am now in the process of manually installing IE7. Do any of you guys have an idea to why microsoft update was not updating me to IE7 as a critically needed update?
  9. THAT old clunker? it is just a $400 Best Buy special. The only thing that sucks about it is its battery life. From day one I only got 1.5 hours. Now it is even less.
  10. Are you saying you are no longer able to boot from your kubuntu cd to reinstall linux and fix the boot loader?
  11. for whats it worth, i had no problems with my over one year old toshiba laptop.
  12. Its fun to pick on Microsoft :-)
  13. I had a problem a few days ago when updating an HP computer to IE7. It turned out to be an incompatible add-on. I would temporally disable all of the add-ons and see if that helps. goto control panel-->internet options-->programs tab-->mange add-ons.
  14. Open firefox, then go in to options-->content-->file types-->manage. You may be able to associate it their.
  15. You could also just do it manually by changing the config files. http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-ubuntu...figuration.html You really only need to follow the directions as far as the step "Task: Define new DNS servers " edit added later// The gui tools also work great. They just automatically edit the files above for you. It is good to know the manual way of doing it also.
  16. Sorry for giving you a hard time. I still think i am holding a grudge from a while back when you told me to google it(probably good advice). I need to let it go :-)
  17. Most people with hi speed internet use DHCP. So long as your are plugged into your ethernet port, ubuntu should just setup the network automatically.
  18. he mentioned the GeForce 8800GTS, that is a $400 video card. I would guess he is talking about gaming performance
  19. My understanding is games like single core possessors better then dual. You have a pretty fast single core proc. I don't see that being a bottle neck in most games
  20. You asked if it might be a DNS problem. You can easily check if it is a DNS problem by using the ip address instead of the domain name. what happens if you put this address(it is for google) into the address bar. If you can get to google, that would mean it is a DNS problem http://64.233.187.99 I would also run the command ipconfig /all from both your laptop and working computer to see if the information is the same.
  21. have you done much looking on ebay? I would think you could find something in that price range.
