Marty, I live in the same town as Drew. We have little or no public transportation and mosty rual roads 10 minutes out of downtown. Every week there is someone blowing a stop sign doing 50+mph at some crossroad. So many wreaks are very serious. Then there are judges like this one.... This woman could have taken out a family along with her child. She was double the legal limit at the time.
  2. My "on board" sound device went kaput in just over a year in my Dell. I was a real newbie and struggled for days and days to get it working, with the help of several folks who post here now. (from TTV/G4) Ended up buying a new card.

    Taxes...

I thought this was funny, then I realized the awful truth of it. Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table where he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes are the rule. Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries, then tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways to tax his ass Tax all he has, Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough. When he screams, Then tax him more,
  4. Heh heh, my mom always used to say dad wore the pants in the family. But SHE washed and ironed them...
  5. Each Friday night after work, Bubba would fire up his outdoor grill and cook a venison steak. But all of Bubba's neighbors were Catholic....and since it was Lent, they were forbidden from eating meat on Friday. The delicious aroma from the grilled venison steaks was causing such a problem for the Catholic faithful that they finally talked to their priest. The Priest came to visit Bubba and suggested that he become a Catholic. After several classes and much study, Bubba attended Mass.....and as the priest sprinkled holy water over him, he said, "You were born a Baptist, and raised a Bap

  7. Ohh boy. Near and dear to my heart. We have been attracting the "hummers" for years. With honeysuckle, trumpet vines, Mondera(bee balm) and anything else that site recommends. Heres a pic.... I plan on more and better ones this year because the vines are closer to the deck and I'm better with the camera.

Around here we call them "donor-cycles" And if I see/hear of them wrecking I have a hard time not thinking "We told you so" All in all, I think most of them are very good cautious drivers. The big problem is no one sees/looks for them and that makes them vunerable. And DAMN the cell phones in cars. I wonder how long it's gonna take for the insurance lobby to force Washington to ban them in cars.
  9. A man appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. 'Have you ever done anything of particular merit?' St. Peter asked. 'Well, I can think of one thing', the man offered. 'Once, on a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers, who were threatening a young woman. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So, I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker and smacked him in his face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, Now, back off or I'll kick the crap out of all of you.' St. P

Good deal there... I've seen solar collectors on shed roofs for pools around here, but I hear they are hard on the pumps. I dunno, but for a hot tub in sunville it sounds like a great idea.

Michigan has has several nuke plants for years. Yes, they have had their problems.. But the regulations are tighter and inspections are more frequent now. And tech is far superior now. Around here our only other options are coal, oil and natural gas... All of which are becoming more expensive. Not to mention dirty to the air. Locally we have a small dam that is producing a bit. But our rates are still much higher than the "Tennessee Valley Authority" that has several large dams online. The dams also created a beautiful, very large series of lakes. What is the answer? I dunno. Wind power here
  15. I've been on your side for many years. You're correct, why let the g'ment sit on YOUR money for a year interest free? Another good suggestion would be to put 50% in an IRA and 50% into savings. You gain interest and half that money goes taxfree to retirement.

I still keep SpyBot, I do like the prompts it gives when installing something. At least I know something won't try to install without my ok. I still believe having a router is the best defense.

    Cyclones

My "Sweet Brit" hubby's dad lives in a doublewide in Scunthorpe. It is in a park that has many streets and avenues. He says there are many like that around and they are just like the ones here in the US. There are a few arguments I have against them and the statements made here. There are two classes, "manufactured" homes and "modular" homes. The first have a metal undercarrage and the "mods" are built on timber like a "stick" built home. IMHO both are overpriced and under built. With the exception of coming fully equipted and habitable quickly, cheap stuff. A while back I looked into a "mod

Shucks, I have a friend that picked one up out of a cage at our nature center. He was told it still was illegal. Good thing though, how can they prove where you got it?

Good news indeed. Bald Eagles have to be the most majestic of raptors. Now that they are protected the population is doing well and increasing.

  25. An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place." So the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After a while, they've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day God calls Satan on the telephone and says with a sneer, "So, how's it going down there in hell?" Satan replies, "Hey, things are going great.
