  1. If it was easy everybody would be doing it. Keep at it and youll crack it.

Do basic tutorials like "hello world", and stuff like "my ultra basic calculater"

they will teach you all you need to know

  2. Ill never forget that day, i think it was 1:20pm Irish summer time, it was the day i had my first shave, and it was just after a nice relaxing hot bath. I was sitting on the sofa putting on my big sport socks, and then the oprah winfrey show was interupted by a news report. Something that never happens here.

"Were sorry to interupt your tv program, but a plane has just crashed into one of the twin towers"

As it was showing the picture of one of the towers another plane flew into the second. It cut back to the news and the camera shudded.

"A second plane has just hit the second tower"

My mother shouted from the other room, asking me if this was a disaster senario movie, or was it real life tv. I shouted it was real life, and she stormed into the sitting room. We sat in the sitting room for the next several hours, watching the news on every news channel we had, it was surreal watching as the first and second towers came down, it didnt feel real but you knew it was happening.

I still ponder that day, emotionaly and scientificaly and it still doesnt make sence to me.

  3. The most powerful country in the world can't even look after its own people.

    How sad.

i love how the whole point went right over your young head. ohhh i don't care what anyone says. we are not the greatest country in the world, we just have too more idiots that think we are than anyone else.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

My point was made, it anoied you, and a few others i bet. The "sad" part, is new orleans. It is unfortunate that it did happen, and it is nice to see each fellow american looking after each other. The scary(sad) part, is your ocupation in iraq. Charity begins at home. Im not going to say any more than this.

  4. Ive used nvidia, im a major fan. I have the geforce 2 ultra in my desktop, and in my new laptop im getting the 6800 ultra.

Which is better?, this is a bit like the "AMD OR INTEL?" battle. To be frank, if you are a gamer, and you buy AMD, i would think your better bet is to go with nvidia, as AMD and nvidia have been giving each other backhanders since they became the gamers choice.

Either way, choose the brandname you like.

  5. Not to mention there is nothing gained by the 64bit, not even performance (yes i read a massive article detailing why). The only advantage of 64bit, is that you can install 20GB of ram, have hard drives up to 64 TeraBytes and of course run 64bit execution's so certain operations are a little faster.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Your statement is contradictory; you claim there is no performance gain, then state there is a performance gain.

The tests I've seen have shown a few areas of decent (10%) performance gain, but this was balanced out by areas where performance was worsened and by the difficulty of finding drivers. It would be more precise to say there is no net performance gain.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Key words "certain operations are a little faster". Playing a computer game will be the exact same speed, maybe a little slower. It will only become faster when people start writing programs to take advantage of the 64bit, its like MMX operations, they only work if the program takes advantage of it.

  6. First off, you want to use FreeBSD, or a linux system. Reason being is that their formatting is extremly efficent compared to FAT/NTFS tables.

Secondly *nix because its TCP/IP Stack is more effient allowing you to use more of that gigabit nic.

If your not comfortable using *nix, then stick with windows, preferably a windows 2k3 operating system and not windows xp.

With 3 drives you cant "mirror", with 6 you could setup a Raid 5, and have stripping and mirroring accross 2 sets of 3. (so you have 6 hard drives, each 200GB big, would be 600GB of storage not 1.2TB, cause the other 600GB is being used to mirror.

The best way to think about expanding is like this. If you have to expand your talking about buying not 3 new drives, but 6 (if you only start with 3). Because its best to keep all the drives exactly the same.

Bit of advice, burn test the drives for 24/48 hours before usage (this if you dont know means write/read stuff of the drives to make sure they wont fail)

Motherboard anything that can handle Raid5

Processor preferably AMD, better memory management

Hard drives, a 200GB sata150 set me back $100 today, $600 on drives is not a lot if it saves you time and money in the future unless your tightend money wise.

    A 650watt powersupply

Case, any really tall towercase, that has plenty of space for fans front and back

You need to have the gigabit nic built into the motherboard, unless your going pci-e, because pci has a dataflow limit which gigabit nic over takes. The network structure for gigabit ethernet is fragile, preferably all cable is bought with pre-moulded cables and gold contacts. The cable also needs to be able to handle 350mhz frequencies.

If your network is 100mbit limited then trying to achive gigabit is impossible. Also you need to consider hard drive speeds. Gigabit ethernet is speeds of 128MB/s, so each hard drive needs to be able to write at 43MB/s+. Unless your cute and put 4GB of ram into it, and create a huge ram drive.

Achiving gigabit ethernet is hard, and you need to invest in high quality hardware. Using windows is also going to slow down your gigabit ethernet.

Considering your using a laptop, and still want portability, i doubt you want to carry arround an extra 2 boxes holding 10 Strips of 2GB memory modules and 128 500GB hard drives? :P

  8. Well, depends i think a USB wifi connecter costs $40 or so. The built in pci-mini wireless cards are usualy $100~? Shop around at your favourite online store and find out.

Acer make nice laptops, not too pricy either. Some of dell's laptops are good, but support is iffy at the moment. I think youd be pushing the limit looking for a sony, but its worth a shot.

Photoshop, other than its load time, doesnt take much time, until you render. But anything over 1000mhz is going to be fast.

  9. woah, limited to 10 port ranges? damn that sucks.

As for p2p, i used shareaza and didnt have to setup any port forwarding on my computer all be it awfully crap connection for downloading. I changed programs i now use morpheus which seems to like my setup better. Id suggest you bring the router back and ask for a new one saying that it did not say anything about being limited to 10 port ranges.
